    That was the BEST 'Perfect Binding' video I have ever seen, and I love the binding press and methods used. I also liked the music. Great job!

    This video is gorgeous. I could watch it every day and just sit, mesmerised, as a book is made.... What a beautiful, meditative piece of art.

    Thank you for showing us how it is done. So much care and attention to detail. I have been searching more guidance on learning this technique and I feel all my questions were just answered. Well done Sir, well done.

    Excellent. One point, I was taught to cut the spine (cuts) at alternative angle of 45 degrees. If you then look at a cross drawing of the spine it is impossible for the pages to fall out. In your process the pages can still be pulled straight out. Have you made a video of making a case for a text block. Great equipment you are using. John Australia.

      Right. However, one of the improvements of the method is precisely the folding cardboard holder that allows the staggering of the leaves in a cascade form, making the edges of the leaves slightly back, relative to one another, allowing the glue to penetrate more deeply.

      John, I think I might have been in a class of yours many years ago in Toowoomba and you taught the 45 degree cut!

    I have used your technique with good success up to the point where you cut away the cardboard braces. I have cut into my pages trying to cut down the length of the book. I find it better to extend the cutter, insert at 45 degree (like you do) and then pull directly out, cutting a little at a time, instead of running the knife down the spine

  • @AndreLuis-lj1pe

    Amigo gostei bastante, bem explicativo. Fiquei com uma dúvida, a cola que você usa é a PVA normal ou outro tipo de cola? E outra coisa, pode me indicar alguma loja online que vende os itens que você usou para trabalhar como o Marcador de página, Reforço de entretela, Encabeçado e o Reforço de Morin? Eu moro no interior e não encontro esses itens nas papelarias da minha região.

    Duas perguntas: você passa a cola com as folhas enclinadas para a cola agir melhor? E sobre o ponto de fazer os cortes em um outro ângulo, isso pode ajudar a impedir delas se soltarem, é isso?

    Thank you, this is all so clear now. One thing I don't quite understand is how the thread strengthens the binding. Can you explain?

    • @RobertSzasz
      @RobertSzasz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Instead of each set of pages being connected just on their edge pages, they are also connected throughout to the threads.

    What kind of saw is that at 1:00? I'd like to try and find one to buy, but I don't know what I should look up.

    • @gfixler
      @gfixler 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a small miter saw, which is a kind of back saw. It looks to be the kind that come with small aluminum miter/mitre boxes from most hardware stores. Google for aluminum miter box and you'll see a bunch of them. You could also probably use more rectangular japanese dozuki saw, as they have stiff backs like back saws, and many are rectangular like the one in the video, or even a japanese ryoba, which is double-sided, though typically widens toward the end, and thus isn't as easy to keep parallel to the book edge.

    Que tipo de cola é usada Sr. Akira?

    • @dars3123
      @dars3123 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cola Branca PVA, porque ela é mais grossa, já a cola branca escolar tem mais água do que a cola PVA, o papel absorve essa água e fica mais enrugado e tem risco de não colar direito por ser mais diluída. A Cola PVA pode ser encontrada na Kalunga ou em algumas papelarias maiores.
