Fran has extended my life. I am on palliative care for Stage IV Prostate Cancer with mets to the lungs. I was given 1 year to live 3 years ago. She keeps my mind thinking about other things and I love the variety of topics she shares with each video. I don't have a technical background but she explains technical concepts in a way that I can understand. Fran would be a valuable asset to any organization that would be lucky enough to have her. P.S. I also love her sense of humor.

The following is written by a bloke in Liverpool who despite being thousands of miles away remains one of the subject’s most committed supporters. Here’s why.
Put simply, Fran Blanche is an engineer (both electrical and mechanical), artist, carpenter, entrepreneur, musician, and curator of a notable collection of artefacts, media and art encompassing a genuinely unique glimpse of human creation and invention. Her appeal to her audience on her “FranLab” You Tube channel is largely due to her friendly style and ability to explain and discuss the items and subjects she presents.
Her achievements include the creation of a range of guitar effects pedals still described in hushed tones by top flight musicians, a significant contribution to the Smithsonian Apollo commemorative project, a zero-gravity flight, and a wide selection of projects, musical, artistic, electronic and constructional, which have fascinated her audience for over a decade.
More notably, she has caught the attention of a wide range of people from different backgrounds, even internationally, who identify with her personal view of science, art and the world in general.
All of this becomes exceptional when realizing that she has overcome a string of persistent difficulties, personal, health and financial, to be able to present her collection and activities today, amassing an audience approaching (at the time of writing) a quarter of a million.
The release of a FranLab video is awaited (by this fan at least) with the same excitement as watching Mo Salah start a run on goal towards the Kop End. You know that ball is going straight in the back of the net.
And with that sporting analogy, this author believes Fran is the best possible choice for any team that identifies with any of her activities. She’s the best signing anyone could ever make.

Fran Blanche is a national treasure with an international audience. Few people have Fran's depth and breadth of real experience as a designer, technician, experimenter, engineer, craftsperson and technologist. Few possess the ability to stick with a project like Fran, seeing it completed especially when the project is complex, when new skills and understanding are needed. One of the things that makes Fran really special is the gift of explanation. Not just glossed over textbook material, but real life observation in a framework of precise, high quality content.
You want Fran Blanche involved with your organization! There is no finer person as inquisitive, dedicated or intelligent with such a wide spectrum of interests.

I'm from a small town and retired from the Navy Nuclear Power program. Fran Blanche is of the same caliber as a number of people that I enjoyed working with. Her in-depth knowledge on such a vast array of topics showed me that she takes her work very seriously. Topics from what it takes to take an idea for a product all the way to marketing. In depth discussion on the Saturn 5 rocket engines and the many engineering aspects of it's workings. The meticulous detail of her projects. Open and honest about what didn't work and why and what did work. The quality of her work is what inspired me to financially donate so that she may continue to broaden my knowledge.

I first found Fran's channel through her Apollo AGC DSKY video at the Smithsonian, from there I went to her Apollo LVDC circuit board teardown, but then I found videos about pens and pencils, pipe organs, automatons, music, so many diverse subjects, I was hooked. Fran thinks about details. In a world dominated by shallow imagery, fakery and internet garbage, she's a genuinely talented individual. Her take on technical history, researched with accuracy, is presented to be interesting to the technical as well as the not so tech literate. Music, history and a feel for important and often overlooked or forgotten technical advances makes this channel and her a 'must see'.

Fran is a national treasure. Her love of all things electronic and her ability to explain complex items and historic electronics is amazing. From original circut boards and transistors used in our 60's space program to explanation on theory of recent microwave burst weapons in Embassies around the world. She is a treasure trove of knowledge and her collection of antiques including videos, records, various electronics and electronic test equipment are individually unique. Even helped Smithsonian team build locking mechanism from original Appllo mission. On top of all these things she has a music background and an entreprenureal spirit that sets a very good example for my children. Developed and sold her own Frantone music petal and plays guitar and sings. Can't say enough good things about this person. Her library of items will end up in the Smithsonian. Pay attention she is ONE OF A KIND.

I have recently retired as a visualization lab director at the University of Illinois after over 50 years of electronics work and discovered the Fran channel several years ago. She is a fantastic explainer of electronics functionality and certainly will become a valuable member of whatever institution at which she will be working. Her history of constructing audio electronics and explaining the construction of those circuits up to and including nearly prehistoric nixie tube electronics shows the range and versatility of her knowledge. She has a great electronics understanding, amazing organizational skills as a result of too numerous lab moves and obvious interpersonal skills that should be harvested.

Who is this Fran person? And why would anyone want her in their organization?
Fran is curious and loves to share her curiosity wherever it leads. I can hardly count the times I've been surprised and delighted by where that curiosity has gone, and the tenacity and dedication Fran exhibits following her path and sharing the journey.
Fran is an investigator. More often than not, her curiosity leads her to fascinating science and technology, most especially including things that were key steps on the way to solving some thorny problems. Fran will dig into an item "all the way down" until she not only understands it, but understands it well enough to share with others in a comprehensible and engaging manner.
Fran is a communicator. And not just in videos! No medium is beyond Fran, be it material art, music, speech, writing, video and more. This is the key to Fran's success on TH-cam, where over a quarter of a million people follow her channel.
Fran is a historian and curator. Simply put, she loves old stuff, and not only old tech, though that does tend to fill her archive more than anything else.
Fran is an inventor and creator. I was going to say "artist", but that word feels too narrow, despite much of her work being truly artistic. Many of Fran's inventions serve to solve problems at hand, ones encountered as part of her other efforts. Some inventions are quick "hacks", others are years in the making. Fran is one of those rare folks who can share their invention and discovery processes in ways that encourage others to try it for themselves.
Fran is inspiring. If the above list isn't enough to illustrate this, Fran does all this while having what others may label as disadvantages or handicaps or limitations, but which Fran turns into superpowers. I'll not list them, but I will say I share some of them, and I'm singularly amazed by how they hardly slow Fran down. She drives me to do better with and for myself.
Fran is proof that Art and STEM go together: Fran is a STEAM practitioner and advocate like no other. An engineer with words, an artist with technology.
Fran has enormous passion. She acknowledges few limitations, and considers even those few temporary in nature, to be resolved or worked around. Fran can weather adversity better and push herself harder than anyone I've ever seen. Fran has tenacity and grit.
Fran is a trailblazer. Fran has started and run multiple businesses. FRAN LOVES PHILLY! Fran has a rich and wry sense of humor. OK, I should probably stop here, though there is more to be said.
Who is this Fran person? Bring her aboard and find out for yourself!

    The terse and meritoric version:
Fran is a tremendous inspiration to me, a role model in different aspects and someone I truly admire and look up to. A hardworking professional, skillful engineer, craftsperson, designer and artist, a woman of numerous passions and deep knowledge of many subjects, dedicated to preserving, rediscovering and educating others about the technological and scientific heritage of current and bygone era. Also, a determined and supportive activist who is not afraid to voice her opinions, which are deeply rooted in the current scientific consensus. A proud defender of reason, dignity, justice and equality. Someone I would be absolutely delighted to meet in person and have as a mentor, coworker or friend.
    The long-ish, personal version:
I first found Fran at some point in late 2000s or early 2010s, when I was 25 or so, studied chemistry at a technical university and have been doing electronic stuff for 10 years. At that point I was volunteering at a campus radio doing maintenance/restoration on vintage pro audio gear. Ran a lab at home that I named "Vault-Tec Electronics" (that started a few years before Bethesda bought the Fallout franchise), built a few tube amps, preamps, a compressor/limitter and some other stuff for me and my buddies. I was mainly interested in vacuum tube electronics, guitar and hi-fi gear, old radios etc. Years later I know much more about electronics, but still stick to my tubes.
I also was - and still am - largely interested in the goth, post-punk and industrial scene/subculture, both musically and aesthetically (fashion etc.), which involves corsetry. I was doing some research and reading, mainly through the Long Island Staylace Association, and found Fran's fashion business (Contour Corsets), read her writings on corsetry, discovered the electronics business (Frantone) and again, read her writings on design & engineering.
Also, by that time I was already seriously interested in feminism, queer/gender studies etc. I knew I wasn't a "man" despite being assigned male at birth - I didn't match the then pretty restricted, medicalist notions of transsexual/transgender woman, but saw myself as an androgyne / third gender... the "non-binary" term wasn't widely used yet. Fran, being a trans woman and not hiding it (and warning against doing that in her writings on the pitfalls of deep stealth) AND being an electronics geek, strangely resonated with me. At some point I unfortunately forgot her name, all ties seemed to be lost. A few years later I was growing uncomfortable with the way others saw me and I saw myself, which pushed me to start transitioning. Then I felt comfortable enough to come out as a trans woman over a year ago.
Even though I forgot Fran's name, I had a vague memory of her being a trans woman who lived and worked in NYC, made corsets and audio stuff. I tried to find her but didn't know who to look for, which made things harder - e.g. no one in a list of 100 women in audio matched the description. Then, at some point in 2021, I came upon the mention of Fran in one of Flux Condenser's videos by sheer accident, something told me "maybe that's the one? go and check her out..." and yes, it clicked. Binge watching Fran's videos and supporting her on Patreon followed.

    Found Fran by FranTone.
I was fascinated by a female that was into science and electronics.
I binged the channel, and things started to make more sense.
I wish I could sit down and learn more about her and from her. ( Coping skills )
What a cool, interesting person what a totally unique set of life circumstances that gives her insight.

The work that Fran does is a great public service. There is something special about someone taking on a task of preserving the past. And, this is more than just preserving electronics and gizmos but also educating the scientist, the specialist, the layman and the generally curious alike; she has linked us to nostalgia and our common past. There is something noble about this type of work. Fran is also a daring entrepreneur and innovator; from what I have seen, she backs up her customers and supports her products. Clearly she is a hard worker and you will note this if you spend even a small amount of time perusing her detailed videos. She takes painstaking steps to provide clear explanations. Fran's care for the history of electronics is unparalleled. Thank you for all you do Fran. You are appreciated!

Fran is preserving the world's history of engineering and electronics, not just the United States. Without her channel many things would have been lost to the past, but now even if the physical objects are lost the video content will remain so future generations can learn about our past.

So i wish you the very best and I hope that you get what you need in life, including recognition as to who you are and bring forth, in this world. Blessings to you!

Fran is really one of the most creative and interesting content producers on TH-cam. She goes well beyond the basics of instruction. She manages to touch upon a variety of meaningful topics such as corporate organization and social commentary. The way she thinks would be an asset to any organization.

Fran broadcasts information about new and old technology. It's excellent even for us professional Engineers who know a thing or two already. It's also suited to the newbies who need to learn a lot in a short period but may not have access to resources and/or a mentor type person.

Over the years, Fran has shared her passion for a wide variety of technical pursuits. One which stands out is her interest/knowledge of mid-century electronics, particularly as relates to the early manned spaceflight program. She has collected and demonstrated a variety of these artifacts and seems to have developed a strong understanding of these items, and how they related to the major hardware of the era, as a whole.

She can make any topic approachable and entertaining. I'm not even all that interested in the vintage electronics she often showcases, but I still find myself tuning in for her quirky humor and passion for the subject.

Fran is a person that is very knowledgeable about electronics and i especially like the space program technology she has exposed me to. I also like how she also explores old tube technology and analog technology that is getting lost through the years.

Why I watch Fran's videos? Many of my favorite videos have been about some interesting electronics history related devices and components. What makes those videos different from many others is that Fran has a very hands-on approach. Not just showing some dusty cabinets, but actually using the devices - often making some small circuit boards for them, servicing the devices etc.

Fran is an amazingly intelligent delightful intriguing source of information on many subjects. Frans common sense approach to finding workable solutions to complex problems would be a great asset to any organization. I've always been impressed by Frans direct honesty to issues. She has developed a constructive diplomatic approach to disagree with some social issues without being disagreeable. If i were ever in a position to bring this individual into my organization i would jump over mountain to do so. Anything less would be a serious lack of leadership.
    Thank you for your time.

I frequently follow Fran's videos. She seems to know how present and past electronic hardware. She has shown innovation and has at least 1 patent to her name. She also figured out a technical problem a movie theater was having. She knows how to produce products and make effective presentations.

I appreciate Fran's encouragement to look deeper at the possibilities of modern technology, science, and engineering. My favorite video was her build of a particular console from 2001: A Space Odyssey, which combined the maker techniques of prop-making and electronics, retrofuturistic aesthetics, and art. The channel broadly encourages a curiosity not only for science, but the culture around it as well. In this way, it represents the best TH-cam has to offer. I've recommended the channel to several young relatives and friends who have shown an interest in science and engineering, in hopes it will inspire them to the same sort of excellence they see here.

As a retired electronics designer in Europe, I always enjoy Fran’s videos. She has a great knowledge of the wide range of subjects she talks about.
In the years I followed her on TH-cam, I learned to know Fran as an absolutely honest and gentle person, who does not hide her failures, worries and uncertainties.
She also has an amazing knowledge of vintage electronics, sometimes even on subjects that I never saw before in my career, which started almost 60 years ago, in the days we had mainly vacuum tubes and only a handful of transistor types.
Fran, keep up the good work!

Fran is a marvelous teacher who is knowledgeable, personable, and quirky. She's fun to watch even if the subject of the video isn't the most interesting to you. I think she especially has a gift as an electronics historian which I think is made clear by her archive of film transfers and teardowns of very obscure vintage electronics.
And let's not forget that Fran has proven her resilience having recovered from multiple hardships while staying positive throughout her humble career. Anyone would be lucky to have her on their team.

I have watched Fran's videos for years. I am not technical in electronics, but I still enjoy watching her tear down and build up these types of things. I have learned so much about vinyl records (the 45s video), juke boxes, the Wannamaker (sp?) pipe organ series was fantastic, her love of radio, music, educational films and trivia, her discussions about space, pens, pencils. I could go on and on. She is such an interesting and dynamic personality.

I was referred to Fran's channel from another TH-cam channel I watch, and I have to say that Fran is a meticulous engineer. She has done an excellent job at explaining things on a level that a layman like myself could understand. She covers so many different objects/subjects, and I've always been amazed about her overall knowledge on the history of said subjects/objects. I'm always looking out for one of her new videos to appear to enjoy the new(old) thing she is going to teardown and explain how it works. I think she would be a great asset to anyone who hired her.

I've never "met" anyone with as much talent in so many diverse disciplines as Fran Blanche, here! One of my best friends introduced me to this channel, and I was hooked by the electronic symthesizer and the Apollo Guidance Computer episodes. Growing up, I watched a TV show called Mr. Wizard that spurred my boyhood love of practical science. Years later, Fran has reinvigorated my love for home electronics, experimentation, and inventing. I took a long hiatus from those pursuits. She is an entertaining and enthusiastic self-taught educator!

"This Fran Person" oozes with excitement and passions from "EVEYTHING"/A-Z! Fran's recent experiment to read various paper newspapers was way outside her Echo Chamber! To read through her UTubeOids subscribers posts was spectacular including good Karma references to Fran's comforting voice! Check out her Strat & Gretch guitars, Foo Gearhead's. MINT and her precise guitar neck fingering wired through Frantone effect pedals and mixes are over the top!!! Best of luck Fran!!!
