The way that works for me is try words that end in common letters like ing est er and seeing the number of letters correct, then it’s just simple math which I’m pretty good at

When I do it I just pick the first three then find all the bugs and restore my allowance. After that it’s easy to find the right one because there’s less to choose from and you have your clues on the right. Works every time

Usually when I hack I get lucky most of the time and pick the right choice. When I make a build I usually try to max out science and lock picking in order to keep my inner loot goblin happy.
Ha ha it's nice these hacking mini games. In a way it provides a small break away from the harshness of the game but not enough to lose interest and move onto something else. As funny as it may sound, terminal hacking just makes Fallout feel so much more immersive.

I figured most of this in fallout 3. I now pick one word that has common letters to see if it is like that or nowhere close. Then start using the blocks to eliminate most of the duds. Once I'm at where I can see the likely answer I go for it.

Theres some more to this!! The replenish is ALWAYS [ ] or ( ) Duds will have a jumbled mess of symbols that are within [ ] or ( ) etc so itll look like [ # % $ & ] or ( \ ^ - ^ / ). So if you find something like [ ] or ( ) save these for last, as they'll replenished your tries. And click the duds, ( % @ / = ) to eliminate the wrong answers. Coupling the advice above along with exiting and entering the terminal as mentioned in the second half of the video, you can get into ANY terminal if you have the 100 science. This works on fallout 3 as well. I love your videos btw 😃👌👍

Your not the first Tankman, many of us did this. It's only somewhat recently that I try to get each terminal I do in the first try now but once upon a time I used to guess, exit, enter and guess again until I got it right.
Trust me, your not the only one. This mini game is not very well explained. You see that popup the first time you open a terminal and never again. Many folks usually end up guess and then exiting and entering to try again.
The combinations you are looking for are , [ ], ( ), or { }. Everything in between does not matter - as long as it is not a password. You also need to mark the *beginning* of the phrase, so you can just scan the left side of each line. And since _"dud removed"_ is far more frequent than _"allowance replenished",_ it makes more sense to look for the little helpers at the beginning and clear out as many false passwords as possible.
When I played Fallout 3 for the first time when I was around 10 or 12, it had this eerie and strange but still curious atmosphere while playing. And the first few times I was faced with these terminals, I understood quite quickly how to solve them. I was very proud of myself then. 😂

Am I blind and stupid or are there sometimes no duds to remove? I tested a terminal about half a dozen times for practice and sometimes I only found one or two duds and never the replenish or nothing at all.
Nope, your not blind at all. It's entirely possible. That said sometimes they are just so difficult to see. Try spotting single brackets and highlight them. That's how I find most of my clues.

Moe this has nothing to do with this cheat but that chip glitch i told you about to get infinite caps, i did it with the dlc i forgot the name its the one that involves going to the abandoned bos bunker the viva casino i did the chips glitch with those chips and i can get infinite anything from the chip vending machine

Yeap, it's a solid strategy and I know it works as I do the same thing myself. Solid, tried and tested and works like a charm.

It's a valid strategy and it does work. To be fair it's probably what most folks did at the beginning or are still doing.

Yes, pretty much. At for at least FO3, NV and 4. The hacking process is identical.

Sadly yes but it's only temporary. After some time you should be able to try and hack the terminal again. It basically becomes active again.

It's a great suggestion but I don't think there is one. You can usually find at least one in almost every location (except places like caves).
