@@user-hi5vm4vh8t As someone who has made a Mario 64 romhack before, I can tell you that it is definitely possible. After the level is loaded, the game stores all of the collision triangles in one big array. It would be trivial to iterate it and change the collision type of each triangle to quicksand. The only issue would be object geometry, as that is deserialized and reloaded every single frame that Mario is close enough to the objects. Even this could probably be worked around with enough effort.

I think that instead of gnomewithnohome squashing simple over and over, he should've been more devious and waited till Simple was in the last bowser fight, kill him twice to boot him out of the level, kill him again to take him to the castle foyer...
and then take away all of the stages, one by one, so simple had to do the whole thing again.

GnomeWithNoHome keeping SimpleFlips squished for several minutes outside Wet-Dry World made me laugh way more than it should have. Especially with those brief moments of hope where he's un-squished for a second, only to immediately get squished again.

So what I learned from this video is to save up like $300 and wait before Final Bowser. Then mass Squish to buy time, X4 Kill Player just to make extra sure he gets warped to outside, and then remove Snowman's Land and Whomp's Fortress stars. Thank you Mark for the very helpful information.
Edit: I guess use the remaining money to Kill Player and spam knockback for a little bit in succession to keep him dying. Or snipe him with Knockback in Wing Cap red coin star.

@@babytricep437 removing stars makes simple play only the easier stages, since he doesnt want to waste too mich time on 5-7 stars just to get them immediately removed. Destroys overall fun if some troll with big stacks is watching and it is boring to see the same stage played 3 times in the same run.
Second, these effects truly destroy races or general speedruns since they heavily change the progression speed, and if 2 streamers race each other, people will either balance their difference out or you notice how one of them gets favored while the other gets 20 stars removed after dieing in BitS
