This I think needs another refrigerator to be had for it with fruits and vegs also !!! I think for myself I would start with the coming of the Spring time for summer !!! That would be a treat then for myself !!!
I just started with kefir water. After watching and reading about this experience I have been giving a little (few) to my dog and he has really enjoyed them. You might try with your animals. Thanks for your podcast. I love hearing from your family.👵🏻Sally
Hi tipper I enjoyed that so much. You are very creative and make healthy choices for yourself and your family. 10*s out of 10*s Thank you so much for sharing your hard work.
I've never heard of kefir water. Even after hearing how much you and your family enjoy it, I'm not sure I'd like it; however, it was fascinating to watch you make it and hear you talk about the process. You explain things so well. You're a born teacher. I'm open to the idea of trying it and hope to one day get the chance to do so.
We ve been drinking kombucha for a long time .. Grape and ginger my two favorites.., oh and orange.. Tipoer , for more that 25 years I was never sick .. and I believe it to be from all my good gut health once I got sick and I had to be put on my first antibiotics it ruined my health and I also found out I’m allergic to nearly all antibiotics ( any pharmaceuticals for that matter) I was raised on tinctures and fermented stuff that I believed to be totally why I stayed so healthy for so much of my life! THE OLD WAY IS THE BETTER WAY ! another beautiful video Tipper..
Tipper, excellent, informative video! I've been making milk/cream kefir for years. The grains are different of course, but the process is similar. My typical breakfast is a glass of kefir with a handful of blueberries and banana slices. It's just delicious! Just as you mentioned, I've heard that kefir grains don't like touching metal. I personally think it's just an old wives' tale, but others talk about a bad "molecular reaction" between metal and kefir grains. I've never had an issue, but the grains come in contact with metal only when I'm draining them off and that's just for a few seconds.
A lot of people that have a TH-cam channel sell their own merchandise. I enjoy your cooking ones and when you taste something you say "Umm..So Good". You should sell aprons or towels with that printed on them. Tks for all the videos...I enjoy them a bunch..
As far as your blueberry situation, I know when I made kombucha, it made a difference flavor-wise how much I cut up the fruit. Which I especially noticed with blueberry. It's definitely an adventure to try and get it all right!
I also first bought the little unproductive grains but I saw the Florida Sun kefir grains on another video of yours and ordered some. It was revolutionary! I put herbs and/or fruit and honey in the second ferment. Delicious! I’m going to try not using the molasses too.
Hey Tipper, I saw a show on PBS many years ago, and they actually used grapes with the natural yeast that's in the air, to make raised bread dough, without adding any additional yeast just grapes flour and a little bit of salt not too much salt actually inhibits yeast, and the bread actually Rose.
I've got my wife hooked on Kefir low fat milk. she uses it in her cereal and smoothies. Our favorite is strawberry, and I use it in my cereal as well. Now I want to try your Kefir water. I bet I get those same expressions you get when tasting the different flavors. Thanks for sharing your methods of trial and error so your subscribers don't have to. Love the Pressley's
Thanks, Tipper for being so thorough with the explanation on how to make kefir water. I have often wondered about it. But it always seemed so difficult.
Hi Tipper After watching the first video about kefir water I tracked down some starter grains from PoseyMom and started playing with it. So far the blue berry is our favorite. A couple of things I've discovered so far - keeping the temperature of if in the mid-70s makes a big difference in the fermentation; I use one of the seed starter heat mats plugged into a 24hour timer, running 3 hours on then 3 hours off; this works well for me. Also, I let the process go for about 3 days before moving on to the flavoring phase. I also let it flavor for 3 days before straining off the fruit and drinking the flavored water. And a coffee filter and rubber band makes a great brew cap. Take care.
Cotton candy grapes make an awesome kefir! I crush them a bit and then freeze them in 1/2 c portions to use for 1/2 gallon kefir batches through the winter.
I’m excited about this Tipper. Thank you so much. I was thinking, if you want to try a vanilla bean again, put it in with something else that you like. I think orange might be really good. I think just anything that you know sort of, would go with vanilla. This was another really great video. They are all so good. ♥️🙏🤠
Thank-you so much for taking the time to teach us about water kefir. Our family is getting away from soda and trying to eat fermented foods - natural soda is an easy way to get started because it tastes great.
We had a busy week, so we're a day late watching this one, Tipper, but we really enjoyed it. Cheryl has been talking about giving kefir water a try, and I bet your video will provide her with the impetus to give it a go. She purchased a few foil envelopes of kefir water crystals a few weeks ago. If these don't work, we'll look for the brand you use. I'm thinking that even if they are small crystals, a little extra sugar from fruit might help them multiply. Thanks for providing the inspiration to give this a try! Have a wonderful weekend!
Appreciate you sharing your experience. Makes it easier to do it yourself. Excellent information. Going to have to try it. Going to involve my best friend, like you and Corie. Make it more interesting and have other support. Thanks Tipper!
I've been wondering about kefir water, especially since you've talked about it a couple of times. The way you explain things makes it easier to understand. Thanks for sharing what you've learned.
My two favorite is blueberry and pomegranate. The blueberries I support local farmers, so every year I go pick my berries and freeze them. I blend my berries strained and add organic sugar and make a concentrated syrup to add to my kefir on the second ferment. For pomegranate, I buy the Pom Pom brand concentrated juice.
My mother made this... we called it yeast water, but it did have those pearly beads. Mind you, that was in the 1960ies!! She sliced lemons into the water and we liked it. Actually, she and I were the only ones who drank it, my 4 brothers and dad did not like it and never touched it. So, my mother ended up calling it "Ladie's water". I grew up in Switzerland, and we used homeopathic medicine primarily. Thank you and God bless you and your lovely family!
Tipper, I keep forgetting to come back here to thank you for this wonderful video. I watched it a couple of times to decide if I can commit the time to it. I finally went for it 3 months ago and oh my gosh! I’m an addict and I just can’t quit. I had been trying to get others to jump on board but they couldn’t get past anything sitting at room temperature for days especially with those funny looking grains and worst of all, fruits floating in jars with no refrigeration 😂. So I made a bunch and brought them to one of our family gatherings and now there are 8 of us all in on the action. We’ve tried SO MANY different variations but we all agree Cherry/Ginger/Lime/Mint takes the number one spot. Strawberry takes a close second. Thank you so much for such an informative video. You are such a blessing to us all.
Thanks so much for this!! I tried to do this months ago but the grains were so small they washed through the strainer. Now I’m going to buy these and make grape, lemon, ginger and berries! I love fizzy water and this is big thing for me!🤗
I just purchase the kefir grains from same company in Florida. As soon as they get here I'll start making kefir water. Thank you for the informative video. Blessings from Texas. 🙏🏻😇🙏🏻
Tipper, thanks a million for turning me on to kefir water. I had heard of it and was interested but scared to try until I watched your video. I’m making it like crazy and I love it. Been doing it a couple of weeks now and already feeling like benefits. Thanks again!
I got brave enough to try it thanks to Tipper as well. I have been doing a lot of experimenting and I can say that I have made some hooch accidentally but it was delicious!! I think I have it down right now. Lol. It doesn’t smell great but tastes amazing. And no one ever comes right out and says it, but it will bestow upon you the elusive perfect poop. As in always. Be still my beating heart! 😉
Rewatching this morning as I'm starting my second ferment. I'm making lemon ginger, and blueberry lemon. If I like them, I may attempt a lemon/lime like healthy sprite. I'm so excited as I've quit soda earlier this year. :)
@@CelebratingAppalachia I have been enjoying experimenting with the different flavors. So far I think they are very beneficial as our family has digestive issues. I'm hoping I can get everyone to like them as much as I do.
Blue Girl, I am just starting with water kefir, as a matter of fact I am waiting for them to arrive from Florida Sun. I haven't had a soda in I don't know how long, but I loved the taste of Sprite back then, so I am curious to try your lemon/lime idea. Did you try it yet? :)
We have been making water Kiefer also but still perfected. We are definitely going to try the grape thank you for sharing Tipper. Hope you have a great day.
Thanks tipper! Enjoyed this! It definitely is delicious and good for you ! I'm like you , I love coconut, but not with this i agree , The fruits are much better ...appreciate y'all always...God bless....🙏❤
Thanks for this video Tipper! I have been looking for a healthy drink for a long time. Everything either has alot of sugar or unhealthy sugar substitutes. So now I have another hobby to get through the winter. Another answer to prayer!!
Hey Friend Tipper, pray all is well! Just watched this one on you making the kefir water! I’m so excited about learning how to make this water. You make it look like it’s delicious! I can’t wait to try it! You are such a blessing and I love your channel. I want to buy your cook book! Can you tell me how to go about doing that! I don’t know much on how to do that! I have been making ferments for a few years now. It is the kombucha that doesn’t like metals. I use metal with my kefir water. I just got fresh grains and am refreshing with your video. I am enjoying you.
I'm going to follow your recipe.Sounds delicious. To add a little humor 1 of my uncles lived in Blue Ridge,Ga. With a few tweaks, yeast and some heat he would have turned this into some very good 'shine!
The best video of kefir making I’ve seen yet ! Second to none. And I’ve seen quite a few… Also love that you go through the process twice. And strangely you’re the first to tell about the kefir cage. Wow. This will make my life easier. Again thanks🙏🏼
Thank you I will try this. I live in upstate NY retired chef. This looks like fun and healthy for you too. Have you ever thought of using pine needles. Just watched a video on making sun tea with it. Its was Chinese so have to check whether or not pine needles CAN be used as food/drink. Imagine a pine needle ginger one? I am going to try this out, ordering some of the linked kefir grains once I research it first. Thank you again this will be a fun project for me and my daughter , shes 13.
I live in Florida but watch your videos because it keeps me in touch with my roots. I am from Sparta, NC and most of my family lives there and in Galax, Va both are in the Appalachian Mountains. I have made your candy, watched your different vlogs from the holidays, your interview with your Granny, just reminds me so much of home. I am going to try the water.
I stumbled on to this video- I just received my grains today. The first video said I needed a couple cups of starter which I needn’t get. So o kept looking for what to do and then this video. Thank you. I appreciate your candor, your story, and just the way you shared it.
I have been doing kefir water for a short while, myself. Made a tea from excess lemon balm and used it for the starter water w. the sugar. The second ferment, I added blueberries 😋 I have stopped using molasses and use the tiniest pinch of baking soda, instead. Very effervescent! Have to be very careful with the second ferment; I forgot to burp it and it was probable ready to be refrigerated. It exploded in the middle of the night 😳 I will be trying the ginger, for sure!
I have made kombucha, I couldn't make it as good as the guy that introduced me to it but I did like it because it's very good for the immune system, lots of probiotics
I just love you so sweet and seems like a very soft heart. Very informative. All my family is from NC smokey mountains but grew up in Oklahoma. I would have loved to grow up down there. People seem so down to earth and real. Wasn't in the stars for me but I had a good life here alot of down to earth people here also. I'll have to go visit some iv found again soon I love it there. Iv made this before just not flavored and let it sit too long. So glad I watched this video . Thank you for sharing. Justbwatched how you met your husband loved listening to you talk about that as well. Congratulations to you both for hanging in there that's rare these days. God bless Keep up the videos I love to learn from you and its very comforting to listen to your voice for some reason. Hugs
When talked about what worked more bubbly, it seems "acidity" or "alkaline" seems to be the dividing factor. I absolutely love this! I want to work with the ginger lemon and vanilla bean, Im sure the pineapple will be a hit as well. This is my first introduction to this. And the depth to how your synthesizing and break down of your experience with the process is very appreciated. Going to give a go, thank you. I will share this for those that sample.
I have just started the 2nd fermentation on my 4th batch of Kefir Water. I am so happy with this! A friend who follows you recommended it & shared your video. I’ve made peach/strawberry/banana, blueberry, & blueberry/blackberry, last batch is lemon. I hope it comes out good! The blueberry is my favorite so far. I am “resting” my kefir grains. They don’t seem to be working quite as well. The last 2 batches have taken longer to ferment & aren’t quite as fizzy. It’s all ok, I have plenty in the fridge, my hubs isn’t a big fan. But I definitely love it. 💖 you have a found a loyal fan in me… I love watching your videos!! 😊😊
What an interesting idea - never heard of kefir water before but it sounds really good. (I bet the blueberry one depends a kit on the type and ripeness of the blueberries used plus the addition of a little sugar if the berries are on the tart side? Maybe add a bit of blueberry juice?)
I wanted to thank you for this video in particular, for showing how easy it is to make kefir water. I've been flavouring mine with Goji berries which are supposed to have all sorts of health benefits, but they give the water an appealing, slight brownish tinge similar to ginger beer. I'd say the taste is also very similar to ginger beer but without the kick. Anyway, it was what I had to hand to flavour on my first try and it turned out well so thought I'd share.
what I plan to do is allow the first firmentation a shorter amount of time (let it go 1.5 to 2 days). Then, allow for a longer second ferm. This way, I can skew towards a higher carbonation. I think that is a tweak I am going to do. There are two things I find important: 1. Very very low alcohol content (I am very sensitive to alchol); 2. High carbonation.
Tipper, I bought water kefir grains from Florida Sun and they are amazing! I started with the 1/4 cup of grains in a quart jar and maybe two weeks later I already have 2 cups of grains and I’m making 2 gallons of water kefir! I am going to see if any of my family or friends want some grains. These grains almost double with each batch! I am so glad you shared where you got yours. I had used some dehydrated grains before I got these and I wasn’t happy with them at all.
An excellent presentation, Thankyou. I have been making kefir for quite a while, but I haven't been as adventurous as you with the fruit, but now I'm going to do it. Here in UK the weather has been so cold that it slowed the grains down so I leave it for 36 to 48 hrs. during winter. Thanks again x 😀
This is so interesting to me for I have never heard of it before. I am going to think about it and maybe do some research. Thanks Tipper for doing new stuff.

What a great, helpful tutorial! Thank you, Tipper!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Linda 😀
This is wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing this Tipper! I can't wait to try it.
A lot of people that have a TH-cam channel sell their own merchandise. I enjoy your cooking ones and when you taste something you say "Umm..So Good". You should sell aprons or towels with that printed on them. Tks for all the videos...I enjoy them a bunch..
Good idea, Roger. I'd love to see one that says "Umm So Good" with a background of bluish gray mountains. Can you imagine?
That's a great idea! Thank yo Roger 😀
Thank you Tipper, I've never had kefir water, only the kefir that tastes like buttermilk, and I love that. So, I'll give this a try.
And all my years I never heard of such a thing thank you tipper!
Thanks Tipper! I’m ordering my kefir water granules tonight. I definitely want to try this. 👍👍👍
Hope you enjoy 😀
As far as your blueberry situation, I know when I made kombucha, it made a difference flavor-wise how much I cut up the fruit. Which I especially noticed with blueberry. It's definitely an adventure to try and get it all right!
I’ve heard you talk of kefir water but didn’t know how you made yours. This was a very informative video.
I also first bought the little unproductive grains but I saw the Florida Sun kefir grains on another video of yours and ordered some. It was revolutionary! I put herbs and/or fruit and honey in the second ferment. Delicious! I’m going to try not using the molasses too.
Wonderful!
Fascinating 😀
I've got my wife hooked on Kefir low fat milk. she uses it in her cereal and smoothies. Our favorite is strawberry, and I use it in my cereal as well. Now I want to try your Kefir water. I bet I get those same expressions you get when tasting the different flavors. Thanks for sharing your methods of trial and error so your subscribers don't have to. Love the Pressley's
Thanks, Tipper for being so thorough with the explanation on how to make kefir water. I have often wondered about it. But it always seemed so difficult.
Hi Tipper
After watching the first video about kefir water I tracked down some starter grains from PoseyMom and started playing with it.
Take care.
So glad you are enjoying it too 😀
Cotton candy grapes make an awesome kefir! I crush them a bit and then freeze them in 1/2 c portions to use for 1/2 gallon kefir batches through the winter.
Sounds great!
Thank you Roland! Hope you and Cheryl have a great weekend!
I've never heard of kefir juice. I make herbal teas but never kefir, thanks Tipper I'm going to give it a try.☕🙂
You are so welcome!
Thank you for sharing this! I’m considering starting some myself. This was very informative!
Fascinating-thank you!
Sounds Delicious! Thanks for Sharing ! The Pinneapple sounds Really Good! And the one with Ginger & Lemon Balm! Have A Blessed Day!
That is so wonderful!! 😊
Sounds Great, I'll have to give this one a try! Thanks for the informative video!!
Wonderful 😀 We still love it
I got brave enough to try it thanks to Tipper as well.
I hope you like it!!
Pineapple/basil is a wonderful combination for sorbet, so I imagine it would be wonderful in this drink or kombucha!
Blessings!!
I hope you enjoy it 😀
Hey Friend Tipper, pray all is well! I have never bought anything so I don’t know how this goes lol! Thanks have blessed evening! ❤
😊Thank you! So glad you enjoy our videos! You can find the cookbook here: www.etsy.com/listing/1467868257/celebrating-southern-appalachian-food or if you'd rather send payment email me at tipperpressley@gmail.com and I'll send you the details!
@@CelebratingAppalachia Hey Tipper I went on Etsy and its showing your cook book is sold out! Are you gonna have more coming soon? ♥️
@@maryannhickey5559 I just added some more to the store! Thank you!!
I have been making ferments for a few years now. It is the kombucha that doesn’t like metals. I use metal with my kefir water.
I just got fresh grains and am refreshing with your video.
I am enjoying you.
Thank you 😊
I'm going to follow your recipe.Sounds delicious. To add a little humor 1 of my uncles lived in Blue Ridge,Ga. With a few tweaks, yeast and some heat he would have turned this into some very good 'shine!
😀
It may be the natural sugar in the fruit that make more fermentation. Looks good.
I love those big glass jars you have! I need to find something like that. Cheers, and God bless!
The best video of kefir making I’ve seen yet ! Second to none. And I’ve seen quite a few… Also love that you go through the process twice. And strangely you’re the first to tell about the kefir cage. Wow. This will make my life easier. Again thanks🙏🏼
Thanks so much 😊
I hope you are able to get the blueberry lime figured out because that sounds so so good!
Never thought of pine needles 😀 Matt loves pine needle tea 😀
I live in Florida but watch your videos because it keeps me in touch with my roots. I am from Sparta, NC and most of my family lives there and in Galax, Va both are in the Appalachian Mountains. I have made your candy, watched your different vlogs from the holidays, your interview with your Granny, just reminds me so much of home. I am going to try the water.
Thank you so much!
Fascinating conversation. So much to learn from our elders.
I just made my first batch and it went from 1/4 cup of grains to 1 cup of grains. Same brand. Great brand to start with.
hi Tipper, you can use a small or med size spoon to peel ginger with.
I stumbled on to this video- I just received my grains today. The first video said I needed a couple cups of starter which I needn’t get. So o kept looking for what to do and then this video. Thank you. I appreciate your candor, your story, and just the way you shared it.
I hope you enjoy it as much as we do 😊
I have been doing kefir water for a short while, myself.
God bless
Keep up the videos I love to learn from you and its very comforting to listen to your voice for some reason. Hugs
Thank you! So glad you're enjoying our videos 😀
Wonderful! Thank you!
this is the most informative video on water kefir there is! thank you
What an interesting idea - never heard of kefir water before but it sounds really good.
That sounds great 😀
Great video! I'm excited to try making this. I love the suggestion below for ginger peach! Yum!
Grape juice
A few blueberries
And I didn't have ginger, so I added a little fresh turmeric
Amazing!!
what I plan to do is allow the first firmentation a shorter amount of time (let it go 1.5 to 2 days). Then, allow for a longer second ferm. This way, I can skew towards a higher carbonation. I think that is a tweak I am going to do. There are two things I find important: 1. Very very low alcohol content (I am very sensitive to alchol); 2. High carbonation.
Been looking for this recipe the way ur always drinking it looked so good Thank you maam 👍🏻🙏🏻🇺🇸✌🏻
I really enjoyed this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
We are going to give it a try. Thanks
Hope you enjoy 😀
Tipper, I bought water kefir grains from Florida Sun and they are amazing! I started with the 1/4 cup of grains in a quart jar and maybe two weeks later I already have 2 cups of grains and I’m making 2 gallons of water kefir! I am going to see if any of my family or friends want some grains. These grains almost double with each batch! I am so glad you shared where you got yours. I had used some dehydrated grains before I got these and I wasn’t happy with them at all.
Wonderful!!
This is one of the most informative videos on Kefir water. Thank you!
