    • @LazarickHomestead
      @LazarickHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Well your entitled to your opinion. Thanks for stopping by. To answer your question. A couple years ago my husband lost his job and because of this stock we didnt have to spend our money on food and toiletries and we could pay our mortgage and bills until he found a job and there was no stress on how to feed my children. Its hoarding if you stock up on things you will never use. Its not hoarding when you stock what you use. If you cannot see this then theres no getting thru to you and not worth my time. Good day to you

    • @CMarie404
      @CMarie404 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Is this an honest question? How does it not make sense to have a bounty food and supplies on hand? Hoarding? I think it is smart shopping and living. Prepping is being proactive, not reactive. One can take care of themselves and their family when faced with any challenge. Job loss, reduced hours, sudden big expense, bad weather, reallllllly bad weather or events, power outages, illness, car break down, injury, or even just laziness (dont feel like going to store, but maybe don't want to blow money on spur of moment meal delivery),. The energy and focus can be on those things and not having to worry about food,sundries, tools and such. Now add in escalating prices, food/supply shortages, and dealing with folks who dont see the point in prepping yet will scramble to the store and clear the shelves when the fear of an item being out happens? Yeh, I bet the @Lazarickhomestead (and others of similar ilk) didnt need to buy a single roll of TP in 2020, and right now? They have made bank by having a healthy supply of food. They are still eating off of last years (and prior) prices. Coupons in the past helped further add to the value of this set up. Amazing! Probably tops off with sales and such, and not buying necessarily out of need. This video is an amazing example of what we should all be doing, even if on a different scale. Keep in mind that if nothing else available, we all go through a lot more food and supplies than we think. I am curious if you have thoughts to add or if are just a troll.

    Your video came up at random, and..WOW! I am so stoked to see this. I have basement envy. I have a basement but it isnt a nice one.😆 I do keep a freezer and various shelves of non-food items, and then have a few totes up on tables of canned foods. The majority of my pantry is tucked away in odd spots in my house. I make it work, but boy a nice, dedicated spot with room to really move, fill it up, and organize just appeals to me so much. Bravo to you for all the hard work that goes into making this happen, and maintaining it. It's home and inventory management. Basically it's a job that pays off (esp if something happens) and during these times of escalating food prices. Imagine buying much of that now? wowza. Talk about return on investment.
    There is a great amount of security in knowing that food and supplies are readily available no matter what may crop up. Been a prepper for nearly all of my 40 something years. It has served me well through some tough times, and just in regular times. Why go to the store every single time something is needed? Seems like a waste in time, money, wear and tear on vehicle, etc. So yeh, having a stout personal in-home store can really help in times of job loss, reduction in hours, illness, injury, car breakdown, sudden big expense, bad weather, power outage, wanting to save money, not feeling like going to the store (or wasting gas to do so), etc. We can't control for everything, but we can be smart about what we have at our fingertips.
    Little bit here and there all adds up. Yet we need more than we think. If we only ate from what we have and could not resupply easily, then it is vital to look at how much we may go through to sustain current level of calorie consumption. Some will do best with less calories, some will absolutely need more. Either way, many pantries are woefully under supplied--- yet at first glance may look like a lot because of the space it takes up.
    Thanks for tour of some of your space. I'm inspired to get a little more organized.
    Take care!😊

      @LazarickHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You are so right on everything you just said. Good for you. It looks like you are prepared if, for whatever reason, you cannot do regular grocery shopping for weeks or months. If you have not already done so, I recommend you get a propane-fueled generator large enough to power your freezer for at least 12 hours in every 24 hours (and an outdoor heavy duty extension cord to connect outdoor generator to indoor freezer), so all that meat does not thaw when the outdoor temperatures are above freezing. Otherwise, you would have to home-can a lot of thawed meat so it does not spoil.
    It is good that you have kept a lot of your canned foods in their original plastic-wrapped cardboard flats. This makes it easier to carry the food upstairs if there is danger of your basement flooding. It also makes it easier to prevent the canned goods from getting dented should there be an earthquake strong enough to topple loose cans from shelves. I do recommend you find a way to leash those shelving units to the basement walls or to each other so they will not topple over during an earthquake. Also, it is good to set containers of liquid cleansers inside plastic tubs or tote bins just in case one of the containers develops a leak (learned this the hard way).

    • @LazarickHomestead
      @LazarickHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hubby has attached the shelves to the walls actually. I love the tip of the plastic totes for the cleaners. Have not thought of that. I learn so much from all of you for sure.. thanks so much.
