I'll just throw this out there, but get a trolling motor, or get a gasoline motor. trolling motors can effectively get you to 5mph on maybe 500-900 watts, as opposed to 3hp which is more like 2000 watts. Where does the extra power go here? into making wake. Until the craft gets up on plane, it won't be going much, if any, faster. So, low power will get you to 5mph, then 6hp and up can plane out a small dinghy like this and achieve MUCH greater speeds.

Thanks Chelsey for your feedback! A trolling motor can definitely be a viable option on a Takacat depending on the use. The EPropulsion Spirit has advantages in that the run time is significantly greater, with an integrated, floating battery, and the Spirit is rated for continuous use. The spirit also has convenience and safety features that trolling motors do not offer and the Spirit is rated for continuous use with no brushes that wear down like in a trolling motor. A trolling motor works great for lakes and very near shore use, but if your need an outboard for a dinghy and you want to nearly eliminate the maintenance that comes with a gas outboard, the Spirit is a great option in my opinion.

It is 1000W but has the feel of a 3HP petrol. Hence it is called 3HP equivalent

Great video! I have the 340 lx as a dinghy and I’m considering the spirit 1.0 plus for it. What length of shaft do you use with the 340?

I recommend the short shaft unless your boat has the new lowered top transom tube, which would allow you to use the xtra short shaft.

SkyBlu Adventures Great video I am also interested in buying the same boat and motor as shown in the video. You mention that you have the short shaft but recommend the extra short shaft if your boat has the new lowered top transom tube. Your boat seams to be the latest model?

The boat in the video has the old “high” transom, I think. The tube on low transom is bent I believe?

I have the regular short shaft and it works great except for a little cavitation sometimes when on full throtttle. I read somewhere you can add some kind of trim-fin on the motor to prevent that, but I haven’t researched the issue further.

@@gilbertchristoffersson2830 Hello Gilbert, The 340LX in this video is the previous version to arrive in the US. The Current model has the lower transom with the "bend" in the top tube. You can see that in the 420LX video I did. Either the short or xtra short works well with the current model. There are a few of the xtra short Spirit 1.0 available at the lower $1699 price through us.

      Hello,
I would recommend that you check the condition of your propeller and propeller shear pin. I haven't felt vibration on any of the Spirit motors that I have run. You should also try removing the propeller and if the vibration stops then you know it's propeller related.

Hi Piotr, we do not have any vibration on our demo motors. I would recommend that you check the condition of your propeller. You can also remove the propeller and run the motor to help rule out a propeller issue.

I have no noticeable vibrations in my handle. Much more steady than my previous petrol outboard.
