I lost my husband suddenly 14 years ago. He was an Eva Cassidy fan. I played this song for months nonstop until finally I let it go. Listened to it today and the emotion that her voice evokes came flooding back. Powerful.😢❤
"A Red, Red Rose," a Scottish love song written by Robert Burns: O my Luve is like a red, red rose That’s newly sprung in June; O my Luve is like the melody That’s sweetly played in tune. As fair art thou, my bonnie lass, So deep in luve am I; And I will luve thee still, my dear, Till a’ the seas gang dry. Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear, And the rocks melt wi’ the sun; I will love thee still, my dear, While the sands o’ life shall run. And fare thee weel, my only luve! And fare thee weel awhile! And I will come again, my luve, Though it were ten thousand mile.
Thank you Eva for helping me through the grief of losing my younger sister. You were young when we lost you, but you have touched my 70 year old heart.
Eva Cassidy is the classic example of the fact that we can have no idea of the impact we have had when we reach the end and die. She had no idea of what she had achieved - none at all. Neither have we - none of us, so let us never despair.
Listening to this on Robert Burns Day. Proud to be Scottish and the fact that we had such an amazing poet that wrote this which then allowed Eva to record this beautiful rendition Alba Gu Brath
I came to Eva when deep pain entered my life. St.Eva helps those with pain live with it, she strokes it with the daylight in her voice, she carries my loneliness with her voice. She holds me when I want to give up, she washes my eyes so I can see hidden layers of tenderness still left in my heart after the war.
Such a beautiful song, sung with beauty. Sometimes I hear an amazing song on a CD/ vinyl (I am very new to Cassidy, I have this very album and I have listerning to it on loop for past 2 days), and when I get goosebumps, I am compelled to go onto you tube and air my feelings in the comments, because I know adding to the ocean of appreciation is the least I can do for such a beautiful work of art!
If I could have a wish, but it precluded world peace, and health and happiness to my loved ones, then it would be to go back in time for one evening to Blues Alley and listen to Eva live, give her a hug, and tell her how popular she was to become - if I could go back to her childhood, I would ask her to always put lots of a strong sunscreen on when going outside, even in DC in the wintertime.
Unfortunately the lyrics are not the ones that Robert Burns wrote and so careful composed to make this arguably one of the greatest love songs. Why do singers not take the time to learn the correct words. Looks like they don't care. The worst version is Eddie Reader's where the lyrics are garbage.

Very few artists do to their audience the things Eva does. Ignites all your senses immediately, leaving all other trains of thought temporarily forgotten.
There is never a time when Eva doesn’t give her all to a song. I just can’t even listen to anyone else anymore. By far the greatest songstress ever. Just amazing. Thank you Eva.
My mother first introduced me to the beautiful voice of Eva after Terry Wogan kept playing her songs on his radio station. Now I remember my dear mum everytime I hear Eva's beautiful voice....and still my tears fall.
I have sung this in so many different tones with the same feeling but never as beautiful as this. It is by far my best attempt at singing this song. Scottish and proud.
there is a young girl 18 I think called Rachel croft she sings my love is like a red rose. she has the most amazing voice but oh so very humble when you talk to get. check her out on u tube she also writes her own songs look at a Rainer day it's brill bad
My great N.Z. friend Robyn used to sing this for his fellow POW's while incarcerated in camps in Poland and Germany. He had a great voice and expressed regret that he was unsure of the words until he could confirm them after the war.
Wunderbar, wunderbar!!! For years I've lobbied online for Eva Cassidy to receive multiple music awards: a Grammy for (Over the Rainbow, Fields of Gold, and Songbird); a CMA Award for (Tennessee Waltz and Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain); Jazz or Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction for (San Francisco Bay Blues and Woodstock); and a Dove Award for (How Can I Keep From Singing, People Get Ready and Way Beyond the Blue). And what do I get? Nothing! Something's got to give! Either the clueless music industry does not know who she is, or they are still trying to categorize Eva Cassidy like I just tried to do. To me it seems simple enough for them (music award powers-that-be) to create a "Multi-Genre Artist Award" and let Eva be the first to receive it posthumously. All of today's greatest singers know Eva Cassidy is the Holy Grail of Vocalist. Even Adele said she used to rush home from school to listen to Eva Cassidy. It's time, people!!!
She had the voice of an Angel 👼 she was so beautiful talented young woman. Good Too Soon. Her beautiful voice goes deep into my soul 🕊 R.I.P. Beautiful Eva🙏🏽🕊 Thank you for sharing this beautiful woman voice and God Bless 🙏🏽 The most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard so gentle and so much passion ♥️🌹♥️
Rabbie Burns would really have approved this version of one of his best loved poems , sung straight from the heart, lovely ! sadly both of them now passed on.

As a teenage girl I didn't want to learn this poem in English class and asked my teacher if I can write music to it instead. He agreed and the next day we all sang my song together in class. Years later I heard the teacher had given away my song to a school band. I hope they didn't become rich.😉

Stunning. Now I know what all the fuss is over this beautiful vocalist.

Eddi Readers version tops this version for me I'm afraid..Eva is brilliant though.
Listening to Eva always lifts my spirits what an absolute blessing to humanity she was and is and will continue to be. GOD BLESS ALL.

I feel so blessed to find this song. To my beloved husband, this is all what I felt and forever feeling for him.

If I could go back in time it would be to hear the bard himself recite this as everyone entertained listened to the master of poetry at work
She had the voice of an Angel. No Doubt she had one of the most touching Voices I ever heard. The Goddess. Brillant
Eva,to my mind, you are one of the
melody queen garlarlanded with red
roses and the petals are like your
beautiful songs
Every time I hear this particular version of this song my eyes tear up. Great song and Eva had such a voice that invoked many feelings.
An amazing voice...so sad that we had her for such a brief time.

Chante Walker she was meant to sing this !
How can you say that ? She sings it slightly different in a lot of lines.

Just gorgeous.... but so so sad we lost this incredible talent way too soon! Can't even imagine of the music she had left in her.
Magical and wonderfully sung by a beautiful lady. Being Scottish this means a lot, thank you for all the excellent talent in this poem and song.
Greatest lyrics ever written.

Eva has an angelic voice!! Such vocal talent. This is one is so soothing. ❤
The lyrics of this song are taken directly from a poem by Robert Burns of the same name, for those who may not be in the know.

Just like Auld Lang syne, his work lives on
I'm in the know. Burns and me are both Ayrshire men. I'm not so hot on the poetry though.
"My love she has a red, red nose..."
Sorry they are not! The lyrics sung hear are not the original lyrics that are written down in every Burn's book of poems and songs ever produced.
