Hey all - Wanted to get something out quick since I am back from vacation. Ran into a number of flight delays due to hurricane so running off little sleep. Will have a more in depth researched breakdown of MTG Standard in the Bo3 video tomorrow once I have a chance to look through MTGO and other resources along with untapped. Figure this is a starting point for folks to see what is happening in the meta
I’ve been mowing down with UW control in bo1 but I’m done now and am playing tuned jank super friends and having fun with a GWB life gain/burn deck that uses enduring tenacity. Just trying to tune the proper amount of removal in the abzan list and build a side board.
It's very interesting that you found the Sell-Sword to be inconsistent. I see all these lists playing 4, but I came to same conclusion and decided that 2 was the right number. It reminds me a lot of the Fling in the old Pauper Affinity lists with Atog. Those lists would run 2 Fling, and because Pauper is an eternal format, the decklists are extremely well tuned.
ya the list is similar to pioneer version that runs 2-3. I just found I kept having it in my opener and didn't do much outside of the stretch damage. Always wanted any other pump effect over it.
bo1 Meta is a shitshow right now with all the red splashing decks warping the format.. Looking forward to the bo3 video tomorrow, I don´t have the WCs to be able to play a lot there, but Golgari looks interesting and I might blow all my WCs on that and then never look back to the current bo1 format.
Golgari also had a lot of counters for the red decks. I climbed up to diamond for the first time in a few seasons using essentially mono black with golgari splash. So can hold its own in BO1 while being strong in BO3
Black has a 2B blow up enchantment option now. But glissa is still good against red. GB is a solid deck with good building options and play lines. Go for it
I played a gruul aggro the hero, challenger, slickshot creatures but the snakeskin viel and hard hittinq questions help with removal or mirror and if i can get the leyline i have four witchs mark which really help push you a few more turns of threat. I dont think turn 2 is quite possible but it really throws alot of decks off with their removal running out or not hitting
Because of all the control i think alot of the meta is going going to wither upgrade or tranform their vraska talent decks to doomsday excruciator decks that way you can avoid control with insta kills and red with lots of removal.
Looking forward for bo3. I think I'll migrate completely to it because bo1 feels so frustrating when you go second oh my lmao! I'm doing a bunch of drafts and it's fun so far. Would love to build some sort of control with overlords and lich king conquest, and some mono black that doesn't suffer so much from enchantment density in the format, but looking forward to see what's viable!
That deck list for 4 color Re-Animator seems underpowered comoared to what ive seen and played. Not enough reanimation targets tbh. The version with Valgavoth and portal to phyrexia i think help the most
Hey guys, what would you suggest to someone who wants to try to learn and gain an understanding of the Meta, I love watching the protour but feel kinda lost by the speed and wish I knew the strategies associated with certain deck and the staple cards ect. I've been playing arena on and off for a year or so, definitely still very much at the beginners level, but find I do understand the basics of the game. But the meta feels so overwhelming to try and understand and to know where to start, thanks 😁
I’d probably suggest just watching twitch/youtube creators play through decks. Often times they will explain their lines of play or how to approach certain matchups. Outside of that just playing and getting first hand experience can help. Try to associate what types of lands being played would be for what deck as that influences how you play out the game

You can't compare aggressiveness of turn 3 atraxa with the the ridiculousness of insta death when the opponent kills you with you having only 1 land. Turn 3 atraxa means dealing damage with her on turn 4 and the damage is only 7 while red decks at that point have already finished playing. Imagine playing 7 mana creature that hits for 7 on turn 4 when you can play 1 mana creature that hits for 20 on turn 2, lol.
@@johnbono2384 I am between those and everyone playing big eye + white control. Its as you say, in a few weeks thing will get better, but I still hate it for now and this is my only way to blow some steam
Pro players usually only run at like a 60% win rate. It’s more unusual to have 70+ winrate. What does wizards benefit anyways from “rigging” the ladder anyways it’s not like you are paying entry
@@MTGJoe "Did you have Fun?" Why would they add this "feature" if the matches were random? Go play a "target opponent can't gain life" card in B01 and see how many lifegain decks you get matched against.
It's a known fact WotC manipulates matchups outside of just mmr/ current rating. The end result means some people's winrates are artificially increased and some players WR is artificially decreased. It's the reason you play 50 mono red decks in a row then as soon as you switch to an anti mono red deck you never see them again. Most games try to enforce a 50% WR not for competitions sake but for the sake of not alienating lesser experienced players (aka more casual players which most games populations consist the most of. Who's most likely jamming mono red? established players or more casual budget players? casual players 100%) which causes them to quit the game and not purchase microtransaction. The competitive integrity of MTGA is a joke because it's manipulated in a way it skews win loss and actually limits better players and essentially caps their ability to build around the meta or specifically build against decks like mono red

if the meta can evolve and pivot that can be great. Right now it is aggro vs control so if combo can fit in will add a nice other layer

Bans based on BO1 meta seems like such a bad idea.
I don’t think they would ban anything in this Bo1. It’s only outliers like nexus due to the lack of timer effects. Extreme situations

Currently anything that isn't mono red is shit in standard bo1. Avoid everything else. Mono red or uninstall
