  • Oct. 25 2011 Jim logging with young black team. Turbo and Jet 4 and 5 year olds.
Location: Wyoming County NY. You can hear the rain in this video.
This is a large Cherry Log almost 400 ft in this log. He fell it on polls to give it lift and to allow a smooth pull for the team. The team are still new in the woods but are coming along. They are giving their all and like to pull. We are hopes this will be a veneer log for the log buyer .....and it was!!

True American know-how and grit. What you all do with those amazing horses and mules is nothing short of magic.

Nice work! That is a beautiful stick of wood. Here in se ontario, the cherries sure don't get so big!

This team has filled out since this video and have become fantastic horses to work with.
They have alot more confidence and give their all.

Nice! Good choice for the music, too! I kinda like the video of Frosty and Bud trying to get through the ditch and the pole snaps! The next video is something about “How to make a pole.” The best one was the one you made early on with snow falling and you “antiqued” it and it didn’t/wouldn’t post or whatever happened. That “Jersey Guy” was in it with FrostyBud team I think? Keep on keeping on. Stay safe and have fun. SS&HF!

Thank you for your comment. The answer is yes. This team has now been working in the woods for 4 years and they do anticipate what is happening. They now look back at the log to deter man how much pull they need to do.

You show excellent control of the team .. Can horses anticipate what you want them to do or do they react entirely to your harness command?

I tried skidding with a carriage horse. All the positioning --2 steps right, 1 back, forward, whoa, left--drove him nuts. He just wanted to move out.

If switching to pull that log from the other side and lifting it up, a similar device I have, I lift logs up, with a hand mechanism, the device I have is made for lifting them up from the ground and the logs get so very much lighter. One Fjordhorse could pull that log, without being stressed
