Things really came full circle, the game started as a dead empty universe, and now they've somehow made that proposal super enticing
Being a content creator for No Man's Sky probably feels relaxing with contents being released almost every month for you to play and talk about that you don't have to worry about anything.
Not only that but if the creator wants to go the fantasy route Light No Fire is right around the corner with 10 years of content to come!
Each update is very small and can summarized in one 10 minute video so no it is not an easy game to cover

the problem will the refinement paradox. unless light no fire releases in around a scope and polish that no mans sky is there will be the perception of being a worse product. hello games gotta drop this smart, hopefully they do that with an early access period to signal that its obviously an ongoing project that will keep getting updates.

Weird thing to do because they definitely deserved it with all the promises they made when the game first came out. It was absolutely awful. But they did absolutely step it up after the fact

This update..isn't it. A whole universe with nothing in it but some ghost frigates? The frigates look cool, but being literally the only thing there seems like a pointless waste of space.
Now the "just wander around aimlessly and find random stuff" game play has returned...maybe.
Day 1 NMS definitely had NPCs and shops and help, it just wasn't necessary for you to interact with them; they were just another kind of useful thing you might find while exploring, rather than a home base you return to between quests. You got rewards for finding things, and the rewards were random because you didn't know what you would find next (which could be annoying if you need a specific resource but never find it). A lot of people prefer quests that tell your where you are going, what you are doing, and what the reward will be ahead of time.

People keep praising this game but nobody can mention any gameplay loops
Collect resources - > Craft upgrades -> Fly to a different planet -> Collect resources -> Craft upgrades -> Fly to...
It's the same thing again and again, that's how they trap people thinking things are different but it's not.
It's just a cozy game. You travel and collect resources to travel some more. It's no different than a game like Animal Crossing or Stardew Valley. There is some simple combat, but other than that it's mostly just a vibes kind of game.

Because people always expect more without taking into account the simplicity and calmness of it all
