Thank you Svetlana. You covered almost everything I need to know. Most specially I wanted to know the speed of growth of Phrags because I have a mobile life. I move from place to place so I cannot have those paphs that take year or years to grow their fans. I just cannot lol. Also I LOVE how you outline your videos. This is exactly the videos that meant to properly teach new orchid growers. I hate it when video makers share too much about their private like (like put the camera away from their plants and turn it to their pets and PROCEED to talk about their dog or their cat. It distracts viewers from their purpose of watching. I immediately quit those videos as soon as I see that they dont have an outline of their presentation.) I subscribed. Thank you for this 9 min video full of knowledge in such a short time. Hope you make more.
Very good video Lana. You described things to perfection, Your slippers all look very well cared for and healthy. Congrats on the Andean Fire it looks like a good clone. Please keep up the good work you are doing with the 'English' videos. Have a very good weekend and thanks for sharing your slippers!!! Ed,
Hi Lana. I am so glad someone else asked that question. (I was too wimpy to ask.) I don't know much about them, but the deer sure do. Lol. Thank you for another excellent video. Will think about adding paths to my collection.
Are you in OWSP? I was at the July picnic for OWSP when the host (Tim Choltco) showed us his grow space in the basement, and I wondered the exact same question about the difference between phrags and paphs. It helps to see the two genera side by side. Your video was really informative!
NeExtraOleas hi! Yes I am in OWSP I made a video about picnic too! Have to look if I have it in English version.. I made my videos in Russian only for a year, now I make in both, just upload video twice.. glad I met you here 😁😁😁
Yes! I remember the cabbage rolls because I went for seconds, haha! My name is Jason, at the beginning of the meeting part of the picnic I introduced myself as the new person who had come to the May meeting but hadn't paid dues yet. I was also fascinated with the blooming Catasetum that someone (I can't remember who) brought for show and tell, because I was curious about how those orchids produce male only/female only flowers. I will definitely have to go find your video about the picnic now.
+NeExtraOleas I remember you! Charlie brought that catasetum, I was so happy to see male flowers on it, bcz I have the same one, but it bloomed with female flowers... and yes I checked on the video... it's in Russian only, back in July I wasn't making in English yet, but to see that catasetum in there, you don't need any language lol I'm Lana btw
For sure, among orchid growers our only language is pretty blooms! In that video I am the guy in the green shirt awkwardly standing in Tim's basement afraid I would ruin his amazing collection if I so much as touched his plants. If you don't mind I am sending you an email since I would like to discuss an idea for our society that I think we can implement either on TH-cam or on Facebook.
During the day I try to keep the heater on so room stays around 25C/77F but at night i turn off everything so it drop to between 10C/50F - 20C/68F. Also my phrags are just seedlings, I'm a bit worried they may be sensative. Would you recommend I just water them every day or keep them in water tray?
Devonly you know , if they are babies -)) treat them like ones... i know 55 F sounds like low for orchids to sit in tray of water, but those temps are fine for phrags... i have babies from flask i just water them more frequently.. don’t keep them in tray... but some people in our orchid society they do i am working on getting subtitles on all my videos i made in Russian , maybe i can be helpful for you in other kind of orchid genera ❤️😁
That would be great. I went a bit crazy over the last couple of month. Went from 0 orchids last november to over 170 now. Paph. , Phrags, Phals, dendrobium, cymbidium, cattleya, leilia, brassia, oncidium, vanda, aeredes, epidendrum, coelogne and probably ton more I've lost count Bit overwhelming learning about them all :)
Just make sure it’s not getting completely dry.. you can put it like a bamboo stick and see how wet/dry is inside the pot.. frags they like rain water If you can do that .. or you can use bottle water for just one plant
Joanne.. make sure your media will hold moisture and be airy still ... bark, charcoal, perlite and chopped sphagnum... I always think about media this way - in nature they grow under trees in very fluffy media made out old leaves, humus , tree sticks... it’s always slightly moist... never bone dry... but never swampy wet..

My Betheva is small with two fans and it has a flower spike but it has a way to go before it blooms.
Thanks for the video Svetlana I wasn't aware Phrag need so much water. I will get little trays of water for them.

Devonly same thing happened to me back days.. when orchid bag bites you, you are infected forever.. lol
I got my first phrag . Its in not in clear pot. I am confused how often should I water. And is tap water ok.
Just make sure it’s not getting completely dry.. you can put it like a bamboo stick and see how wet/dry is inside the pot.. frags they like rain water If you can do that .. or you can use bottle water for just one plant
Should I also put water in tray underneath the pot.
Ruby Mahajan yes
Hi Lana. I just got my first paphiopedilum and this video is excellent. What medium do you use? Thanks
Joanne.. make sure your media will hold moisture and be airy still ... bark, charcoal, perlite and chopped sphagnum...
I always think about media this way - in nature they grow under trees in very fluffy media made out old leaves, humus , tree sticks... it’s always slightly moist... never bone dry... but never swampy wet..
Svetlana's Happy Orchids I’ll try my first experience with this medium on paphiopedilums. Thanks. 😉
I will highly recommend to watch Ed’s orchids channel... he is the best on you tube to grow paphs
