  • Taking a step inside this car is about as close as you can get to stepping back into 1972. On the showroom floor now is this astonishing 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu, a true survivor of a car with under 18,000 original miles on the odometer. The previous owner stated that he bought the car from a man who inherited it from his grandparents and owned it for over 25 years. Over the course of that time, he put only 400 miles on it, an average of only 16 miles a year! The grandparents were the original owners of the car, having bought it new. Additionally, the car is believed to have always been stored inside, further preserving the original steel. When the previous owner bought this Chevelle, it appeared to still have the original tires on it! Powered by an original, base 307 C.I. V8 breathing through a 2-barrel carburetor, this Malibu has all the power it needs to get up and moving. Torque from that 307 gets to the rear end through a 3-speed automatic transmission, shifting smoothly and effortlessly. In completely unrestored condition and wearing the original paint, the "Sequioa Green" color may look a little rough around the edges, but overall, it's in pretty decent shape. What's in more than decent shape, however, is the interior. The interior is in spectacular condition, unrestored and almost completely original. The green vinyl bench seats are very comfortable, and even the original "FASTEN SEAT BELTS" buzzer still works! Options on this '72 Malibu include a heater + defroster, a working factory AM pushbutton radio, seatbelts, and a single exhaust system. This is a base-model Chevelle Malibu, which makes it even more amazing how someone thought to preserve it as well as they did! The car rides on stock Chevelle steel wheels complimented by Chevrolet dog-dish hubcaps over some Kumho "Solus" blackwall tires. What you get with this old Chevelle is as close to a time machine as money can buy, and it's ready to fire up at a moment's notice. It's a very special car, and it's looking for a new owner to take care of it just as nicely as it has been throughout its life.

I used to own the exact same car, exact same color. Bought it from a Ford dealer used car department in 1978. Sold it in the mid 1980's to a guy who totaled it within a month of buying it

Yes, it's very nice. We'd leave it stone stock. Perhaps pull the back glass, and fix the rust on the catwalk panel. Just maybe, you could find packaged lacquer paint for it somewhere, you could then just blend it in, like factory. Other than that, perhaps dual exhaust with some nice mellow sounding mufflers, get rid of the red heater hoses, and that's it! Cheers to the lucky buyer!

I would fix the rear window rust, reseal the glass and fix the trunk rust. We have to watch out for rust and leaks on the front glass as well. Floor undercoat needs cleaning and Ziebart recoat if the car is moved to a tropical climate or near the beach. Front drum brakes can be replaced with disc brakes for safety. It will run 200,000 miles or more with proper maintenance. I would buy it as is if I have the money. Great classic.

Cars like this are indeed very rare. It takes very unusual circumstances to get to this. My old neighbor 12 or so years ago had the same car. Same engine/color/interior. She was in her 70's living alone after her husband passed. She would ask me to help with that car now and then. She literally drove it to church and to get groceries. That's all. At the time the car had a little over 52000 miles on it and it looked the part. Not knowing what ever happened to her or the car but hopefully someone kept it original. It's way to easy to take a classic car like this and turn it into something else

I would put that entire original drive train safely in the garage. Replace it with whatever Strikes you for fun. They are only original and original equipment Numbers matching once. And nobody ever saved the original 10 bolts We're in, the Turbo 350 transmissions were Cheap and plentiful back in the day and Lord knows nobody saved the 307 that's great that's why I would save all of it
