Knock me over with a feather!! I chop mortises the exact same way. Great minds, I guess? Very nice demo👍🤙🏼

I am looking forward to seeing this come together. My wife has the same problem with jigsaw pieces going missing. In our case it is a dog, but the end results are the same. I think she did 3 or 4 straight puzzles with one piece missing in the end. Just one. Her reaction was predictable. Nice fitting M&T on an angle, by the way.

Thanks! So far no missing pieces, but I feel the day is coming.

Very nice videos you make. I’m just beginning woodworking and it’s a bit challenging for me because I lost both my hands in an accident a few years ago. I’ve watched a number of videos on angled mortise and tenons. Doing the tenons is easy for me to understand because the waste is all outside and easy to mark. But the waste on the mortises is all internal. I’m marking top and bottom surfaces and then removing waste, but I have to make the shaft meet both mortise markings without the luxury of the hole being vertical. How do you do this?

Hi there, I start by cutting the tenon shoulder at an angle. I then form the cheeks. Next, I shape the sides of the cheeks so they are 90 degrees to the angled shoulder. This allows me to cut a traditional mortise with vertical walls. When the joint is assembled, the top of the board with the mortise will stick above the board with the tenon. I trim this excess off after assembly.
I'm not sure if this is the optimal way to do it, but it has worked for me.
If you want to email me at ericmeyermaker@gmail.com I can send you a photo of the steps.
