    Tesla NACS Charger Adoption Tracker - On May 25, CEO Jim Farley announced that in 2025, Ford would use the Tesla NACS charge port connector to its second generation EVs, in replacement of the CCS connector. And that beginning in early 2024, Ford BEVs would be able to access Tesla Superchargers via an adapter.

    We've done 2 6,000+ miles road trips in our M3LR. In 2019 and in 2022. A couple National parks were only doable using campgrounds (which we stayed at). Glacier (East side), Crater of the Moon, Lassen Volcanic, Olympic and Mesa Verde. If you only drive from city to city connected by interstates it's good.

    I-70 through Colorado is what the rest of the country needs to get to in DCFC. With chargers every 25 miles, there is no stopping early, or charging too full.

    I hope that a progressive state (like Washington!) starts to require chargers for apartments. It does not have to be 100%. Individuals could pay 1,000 and apartments and/or utilities could pay the rest. It would start individually and the experience gained could be a basis for expansion.

    For me personally, my opinion is destination chargers, like Teslas multiformat charger should be incentivized to be put at locations where the longer you stay the more money you spend for instance grocery stores, shopping centers, malls amusement parks, national parks, and this could drastically alleviate the pressure from supercharger locations.
    Just my opinion .

      Level two type chargers where people tend to spend longer times. Places where people tend to spend short times, 30 minutes for example, need Superchargers. Work and school parking lots would be great places for L2 charging.
      Grocery stores and fast food restaurants seem to be excellent places for rapid chargers. People who need to depend on public chargers could use those chargers about once per week, doing things they would normally do.

    I have a MY Lr, that I did have some range anxiety when going to Bartlesville OK, the nearest supercharger is over 50 miles away, but I stopped at a non-tesla charger (Francis Energy), with an adapter. It was more expensive, but it worked. BTW Francis is known for small towns away from other chargers, but they do it reliably in small out of the way places but at a price.

    The only real problem with chargers in Texas and Oklahoma is the "heat" affecting those Superchargers. They tend to no be covered and experience the full 150F heat of the Summer. Charging during the day reduces chargers to around the 56-57kw range, if you charge at night they seem to go back up to 150-250kw. Doesn't matter if its a Tesla Supercharger or Francis Energy. During the Spring and Fall the dramatic Temp swings also seem to loosen lug terminals and they have to service them more often.

    You cannot use any outlet. It needs to be able to support a heavy use continuously for a long period. We threw a breaker and burnt out a switch on that circuit.
    We have some outlets rated for 7 amps and some 12 in the garage.
    We had the electrician check and he suggested use the 12 amp a few inches from the main panel, and he install a 240 outlet.
    We only have two Chevy Volt that take about 4 hours each on the 240. So we use a level one on the 12 amp and the 240.

    • @bryanwhitton1784
      @bryanwhitton1784 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      How do you get an outlet rated for 7 amps? The smallest conductors are 14 AWG with a 15 amp breaker. For continuous duty it is rated for 12 amps which is what the Tesla mobile charger sets the charge rate at. A 20 amp/12 AWG circuit is rated got 16 amps for continuous duty. You can identify this when you plug has a horizontal contact and a vertical along with the ground.
      How do you get a 7 amp circuit? Just curious, I have just never seen such a circuit in a house.

    Mercedes announcement of NACS adoption from a year ago may see delays because of Mercedes slowing EV programs and Tesla firing all of their Supercharger team. Mercedes and others already had full access to L1/L2 Destination chargers at many hotels and various locations. But getting full Supercharger access starts with CCS plug adapters, or native NACS ports on their EVs. The key point for full Supercharger access is having Tesla's team evaluate the automaker's on-board vehicle chargers and software, give full approval, and have their vehicles (and customers) added to Tesla's charging app. Maybe this has already come together with Mercedes. I am not sure yet. But so far, this is good news.

    In fact my only issue with Elon regarding layoffs or fired employees and especially the Charging team was how Tesla communicated with their partners for both the charging adapters and of course the Tesla Charging Network especially with API for payment processing with the OEM apps.
    Of course, Tesla is hiring again but how is the current communication with these Tesla partners? I just don’t know.

    I'm no kid, but I don't do NAC because Tesla still hasn't opened its network to my 2020 Bolt EV or to GM vehicles generally. Apparently, GM already has adapters and software updates, but they're not distributing them presumably because they haven't reached an agreement with Tesla yet.
    Fortunately, the CCS network meets my needs though more charging options would make road trips a bit easier. I never have many options on plugshare and sometimes worry about finding the charger I need out of service. It has never happened, and I've never waited more than five minutes for a charge on a road trip, but I'd like to see GM join Ford soon, and I'm not sure why it hasn't happened yet. Within a hundred miles of my house, home charging is more convenient and less costly than pumping gas.

    • @restonthewind
      @restonthewind 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@rogerstarkey5390 I'm not blaming anyone. It's a fact that I still can't use the network though Ford EV drivers can. I don't know why GM is late to the game, but I do know that Tesla must permit GM vehicles to use its network.

    My son in law lives in Lincoln Nebraska with a Model 3 and he was heading to South Dakota and he had to go East, then North, then West to get to his destination last year. Now I see that Tesla just installed a Supercharger in Norfolk Nebraska and now he should be able to go North without having to drive around. I was shocked to see that out of the way Supercharger but that is what it's going to take to convert more people into EVs.

    NACS is only US/USMCA regional standard. All EVs sold there, and all chargers in the region will eventually transfer to NACS. Tesla should be leading this transition as they developed the standard. There us hardly any money Tesla to make here, as it us now a general patent (because of becoming the standard).
    Similarly, CCS is the European standard.

    Chargers between Squamish and Cache Creek BC are only in paid parking in Whistler. Otherwise you're on your own with no cell reception. There are very few superchargers north of Cache Creek and none north of Prince George on the Alaska hwy through Yukon and certainly none in Canada's northern territories. It would be impossible to drive a Tesla to Prince Rupert and back without using non-Tesla chargers. Those are SLOW.
