This may be a bit of a random question, but as an Italian living in Slovakia, what do you think about the fact that both our newly elected President (Pellegrini) and Prime Minister (Fico) have Italian heritage? Historically, Italians were one of the main ethnic minorities living in the territory of modern day Slovakia, so it's not really surprising to most Slovaks that so many people here have Italian surnames, but I always wondered if Italians living in Slovakia today are also aware of the historic presence of Italians in this region.

Ahoj :) I know that Pellegrini has an Italian ancestor and indeed this surname is fully Italian, but I didn’t know about Fico and, even if we do have this word (it means “fig” or “cool” in slang)I thought it was a Slovak surname.
To be honest I had no idea about this historical presence in Slovakia, but it’s good to know! :) in what time was this minority in Slovakia?

@@palmacateto be honest, I’m not 100% sure if Fico has Italian ancestors. I just assumed that he did because the surname sounded more Italian than Slovak to me and like I mentioned, there was a sizeable Italian minority in Slovakia in the past. Most of them moved here in the Middle Ages, but smaller numbers were moving here up until the 19th century. In Bratislava, there are a few buildings and streets named after some of those Italians (or their descendants), like Lafranconi bridge, Lafranconi palace, Francisci street and Botto street.
