  • While stopped in Elizabethtown, Kentucky for the daywear wanted to take the short drive down to Hodgenville to visit the birthplace of our 16th United State President, Abraham Lincoln. This National Historic Park is wonderful and full of history deeply rooted into our countries heritage.

Im glad you had your first experience of Abe. Come to Springfield ill to see the tomb and Lincoln library. The most respectful and wonderful landmarks of any president.

If your ever up that way again, check out the Ark Encounter in KY. It’s very interesting. I’ll have to check out the Lincoln site when I’m back down that way. I’m from Canton, Ohio and have many Kin in Zanesville. Glad you’ll be up this way. Safe travels.

Nice Job Guys, great video. If you get to central Illinois, Lincoln's New Salem north of Springfield you would love. It is a 1830's replica village where Abe Lincoln ran a general store. Campground and Cabins are available in the state park. In St Louis (110 Miles South) the Gateway Arch National Park, US Grant National Historic Site. In Springfield IL Lincoln' Home National Historic Site, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library. In West Branch Iowa the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site. and in Harpers Ferry IA, Effigy Mounds National Monument.

If you're still heading to Cincinnati Zoo, I suggest you consider visiting Mecklenburg Gardens nearby. It is an old-school German restaurant and bier hall. I think you might enjoy.
Note: the restaurant is in an older area and the truck and trailer may be very hard to park. Suggest you go without the trailer.

Lincoln: a tall , lanky, long-legged man. A reporter once asked him: "Mr Lincoln, how long SHOULD a man's legs be?" He replied: "Long enough to reach the ground."

The cabin itself is the most interesting part of the story of that sight. For years the national parks claimed it as Lincoln’s actual birth cabin despite the fact that many locals knew the cabin came from logs from a neighboring farm. My grandfather was from that area and could remember as a boy the guy that owned that sight building that recreated cabin and claiming it was Lincoln’s in an attempt to make money as a tourist attraction.

Yea they told us it’s not the actual cabin but was supposed to represent it as closely as possible.

I only had time to go to the Vette plant while in that area. Make sure you make a trip to the Henry Ford museum some day as in the Museum is the chair he was sitting in at the theater as well as a court house in the village that he was part of the circuit as a lawyer and in it is a piece of furniture that he helped build (I forget the story about it been too long)
The more vids you put up on your trips the more I can't wait till september to head back to Greece.

This reminds me of the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park in Vincennes, IN. There is a beautiful round memorial building of similar construction you can go in along with a visitors center. Probably less than three hours from E-Town if you're ever back around there.
