I tried it a few weeks ago. I got the blue raspberry one. I had almost the same reaction as you. Expected it to be much weirder.. But it was surprisingly sweet and good. Solid drink. Wouldn't get it unless I was working out tho probably lol
Most biosteel bottles are filled with only water. It’s a branding thing. The only time they are drinking biosteel is from the box. They have also been around for a while as Connor McDavid has been the spokesperson for a few years now.
He meant on the bench. As someone who played at a high level, you’re not right. It was always 50/50 on our bench. Where half the bottles were (at the time) Powerade and the other half were water.
Quick story. I’m a delivery driver and during the summer months it gets in the 100s(no AC in our trucks) and I go through a lot of water and also mix in a Gatorade during the day. One day I delivered to a Cal Fire and they had pallets of Body Armor and they offered me a few bottles. After drinking the bottle of body armor I felt way more hydrated. This was consistent day after day bottle after bottle. After they were gone I went back to Gatorade since I still had a flat of it. Gatorade didn’t even come close to getting me to the level that the Body Armor did. Just my experience. I’m curious to try Bio Steel now.
Dill pickle juice works best, I love Body Armor to stay hydrated. But when I'm feeling it from the heat dill pickle juice is King, they sell it in drinkable bottles and freeze pops. I can't drink Bio Steel as it makes my throat swell along with most drinks containing alternative sweeteners
Cool. Personally I’m not a fan of biosteel flavor, I think it’s too sweet. But it’s cool that it has its origins in hockey. It makes sense for them to partner with this “home grown” drink
I started buying bio steel like 6 years ago when they first hit the market. You’d buy a tub of the powder. It’s ingredients have always been clean and very healthy. Always helped me when I was playing hockey and always saw them advertised on hockey websites
Biosteel sponsored a charity tournament I played in last year, left with a whole case. I think it is a little sweet but I usually mix it with water but I like it way more the gatorade. Love that they have a hockey connection!
Few years ago Biosteel came to our running club and gave away samples and answered questions. At that point I pretty much switched from Gatorade. I used the little powder packs you could pour into a bottle. That was before Biosteel blew up with the NHL.
I seriously was going mad before I tried one a few weeks ago. I was trying to crack the case of the NHL boxed mystery drinks. Glad someone did a video about it. Your channel deserves way more love than it has. Hope it grows bro! :)
I drink 2 beers before every game. I get my carbs, no pregame anxiety, softer hands, I don’t panic or take stupid penalties anymore. Lol I know it sounds strange but it’s good luck for me
Watching this video, I thought you had at least 10k subs! The video quality is amazing, and the work you put into it and the amazing commentary and story-telling!
I've started to pick this drink up more often and suprisingly it's made me start to dislike gatorade and powerade... I just can't stand the after effects of a dry throat after drinking something like a gatorade and once I started drinking biosteel it's seemed to be less sharp and better overall for me.
Love this content, I got the blue biosteel after a game and I was so surprised how sweet it was. Keep it up i like knowing history of obscure nhl things. Also, I was your 300th subscriber so that’s dope.
I like some flavours, but I use the powder as opposed to the tetra packs, because the RTD version is only electrolytes. The powder has vitamins and aminos which is better for recovery.
I remember one time last year BioSteel brought my high school girls tennis team a whole mini fridge of samples. A bunch of my teammates thought it was too syrup-y, but I liked it. My local ice rink sells it for $3.00 USD a bottle 😬
I honestly can't imagine doing line change after 45 seconds of extremely hard skating and drinking a sports drink. The ice cold water from a soft squeeze bottle is 10x better.
nah it is just cool seeing people trying to make sports drinks that are just healthier overall to players and people. Bio steel, Body armor, and even now Prime. Seeing products like toughs expand to teams and other sports leagues are also great. It is just amazing to see over the years how much sports drinks have evolved and now are healthy and better then before.
It's called a Tetra Pak container. They've been around for years now. Most familiar with Jumex and coconut water.. it's supposed to be the future of recycling..
I just saw a clip of an NHL player who drank from a bio steel bottle in the penalty box, and right after taking a sip he just looked at the bottle in disgust and smelled the drink
I dunno I still like Gatorade more, I tried biosteel in the box and the powder and I seemed to drink literally half a bottle more on the bench and not feel as great in the third as with the Gatorade pods I’d been using, tried it for 5 games and went back to Gatorade and feel much better
I am 58 5'11 138 lbs no belly no grey hair bike 50 miles 2 hrs with hills in 95 degree heat and 85% humidity and in better shape than most hockey players and have been using Gatorade for years and suits me just fine just another BS money maker.✌
Rest of story: they found out about it after someone smelled his breath, and it smelled like whiskey. The ref immediately threw out the goalie. He got a 5 game suspension, that's why you drink responsible.
I have no idea how the algorythm brought me here. I have never watched hockey and very rarely buy sports drinks. But I will absolutely be checking out Biosteel after my next workout.
worth mentioning, BioSteel was found in violation of prop 65 ( cancer warning ) and use to have prop 65 warning, not use this product, not sure if this was fixed
I have a friend that preaches BioSteel as the top tier sports drink, and he was really confused when I told him it was from hockey. (he thought it was some off-brand gatorade that was just really good)

I love Biosteel! I recommend you try the mix as it has a very different formulation than the sports drink. The mix has amino acids and medical ingredients.
Do they have a product that has the supplements but just tastes like water? I'm not really into things that taste sweet. Wasn't a fan of Gatorade, Powerade or any other "Sports Drink" as a kid non of them ever made me feel more "hydrated" than just having water. It’s just a bottle it doesn’t mean anything. All the hockey players I know have water in their bottles. In case you have to squirt it on your face to wash the sweat out of your eyes. Gatorade will not work for that.
It makes no sense to me why one would not want a boost of sugar in their drink during rigorous activity. Stevia provides virtually no calories and therefore no carbs, but simple carbs are what allows you to push through an intense workout/game/etc. when the glycogen in your muscles begins to deplete. Aside from that, Biosteel seems to just have a few extra minerals and BCAAs. Why not just get these minerals from solid food intake and IF additional amino acids are required, simply buy a BCAA powder from the store at a much cheaper price and drink it ~1 h before the workout? Plus Biosteel is ridiculously priced for the amount of product you receive. While it might be ‘healthier’ than a standard sports drink like Gatorade, I just do not see how it would increase performance during short, strenuous physical activities like hockey and in fact would think that the lack of a simple carbohydrate would actually decrease performance.
vs the other G drink? (and its high sugar?---simple sugar basically only affects "Blood sugar doesnt it?"---look at the ingredients of both/all drinks....seems this one is more healthier as you say and right about for working out /replenish after working out---not "while doing it"
Keep in mind, most users drink Biosteel AFTER sports/workouts. It's mostly used as a regenerative drink from what I understand so far. Most players DURING sports will drink a certain mix of water/supplements/biosteel/gatorade, whatever floats their boat.
@@thatjdmfd But even after strenuous exercise, a source of quick-digesting simple carbohydrates would be recommended to replenish the glycogen stores and to prevent any catabolic effects on the body. This is why it is often suggested to consume something with a high glycemic index like white bread or a muffin (or, a sugary drink like juice or Gatorade) soon after strenuous exercise. And if Biosteel is for LONG after exercise, then why not just get those amino acids and extra minerals from whole food and/or vitamin supplementation? I still just cannot see the advantage that Biosteel has over Gatorade +/- vitamins +/- whole food consumption.
