In 2015 I was recently "retired", something I was not too good at, but I am getting better at it, and was spending a lot of time in my favorite local gun shop. One of the employees had to have some surgery and was going to be out for several weeks. The owner offered me a job there while the guy was in the hospital...my wife said "TAKE IT, you will spend less time there and can get some things done around the house on your days off!" HAHA, she's so funny. I fooled her. I went fishing on my days off. 🤣 In the spirit of helping my fellow man, I returned ALL the money they paid me in exchange for firearms that had been waiting to be taken "off the street" to prevent crime. Kind of a "gun buy back" program. Like I said, I am always thinking selflessly of my community. Anyway...we sold a lot of the DB9 first generation guns but we also got a lot of them back! Reliability was the constant complaint. I am glad to see they kept working on it. They always impressed me as to their size and price point, but they HAVE TO BE reliable for CC. I hope they got it right now. The sight issue is probably a "locktite" fix. DB tried to make the pistol more attractive by making it compatible with Glock sights. They have to do it right, though. Seems like an easy fix for the factory. It is not a range gun, obviously. I can tell you that there is a demand for this handgun. People WANTED to buy them. If DB has got the issues fixed they will have a winner. No sights? No problem. Good shooting, Mr. Buffalo.
Thanks for the awesome comment. I love the stories like this! It is a snappy little booger and not a lot of fun to shoot but accurate for what it is. Like you said though reliability is KING. Time will tell how this one does. I might intentionally try to push it to it's breaking point, or my breaking point, whichever comes first!
I own the DB gen 4 and it's a great lil pistol ! Light , concealable and eats whatever I feed it ! I carried it for a year but needed more than 6 shots ! It's a great little carry piece and snappy but accurate as hell !
I'm always amazed at your ability to shoot handguns so well. That 35 yard shot at the beginning of the video on that little steel target is not easy, and you did it with a tiny little gun! Keep up the great content sir.
Had to 'round off' a bit of 'extra' metal at the end/bottom of the trigger blade. Also rounded off the sharp corner on the bottom right side of the molded plastic trigger guard which was uncomfortable on my R middle finger, middle knuckle. No more discomfort/irritation noted.
I bought the Gen4 and it works really good. I've shot many rounds through it and I've had zero jams. It's made really good and I've had no problems with it. It has a very heavy trigger pull, which I don't like but I don't think you would notice if you were in an emergency defense situation.
NOTE: So, you need an Allen hex wrench for the SET SCREW on the new METAL sights for the first time you go to the range. Diamondback made EXCELLENT new Glock-compatible sights for the gen4 DB9, but they are expensive metal sights with a set screw, not cheap plastic jammed on sights like the Glock-made ones. Before you shoot for the first time, you may want to give the rear sight a little tightening, check it at the end, one time, and you should be good from then on. The Diamondback factory doesn't overtighten them before shipping. That allows folks to just push on them to adjust for windage. But this shows up in some TH-cam videos where the brand new out-of-box gun had it's sights loosen up at first firing. So, let's be smart and tighten them up on day One. That's all. By the way, the Diamondback sights are steel three-dot sights, so they are BETTER than Glock plastic vowel (U with an I) type sights. I snugged up my DB9 rear sights once with a small Allen hex wrench, and they've been solid for hundreds of rounds every since! I keep the Allen wrench in my range bag, but haven't needed it except to loan to other folks at the range. Love to carry my Diamondback DB9 everywhere, everyday. Enjoyed your video.
One: Oh look, ten targets ten through 35 yds away. Rings them all....Show off. Two: Rear sight comes loose. Still rings four out of six shots! Do you ever miss? 🤣 Steady on Brother. We appreciate all you do....
I pocket carried the CM9 for a few years but it lives in my safe since getting the P365. That looks like a good budget contender for many folks. A 7lb trigger on a light gun is a challenge for folks without lots of trigger time and probably too snappy for beginners.

He doesn't constantly review the latest most expensive offerings from the big gun companies like many review channels. I like that, always have. Take it easy man. *:-)*
I enjoy the "everyday" guns. Well that and I can't afford the latest and greatest. I don't have manufactures beating my door down wanting me to try their guns either....could be the hillbilly stereotype or the fact that I show the flaws when they happen.....or a combination of both! LOL
I have shot the sights loose on many guns over the years, it just usually happens off camera. When something like this happens while the camera is rolling you can bet I am going to show it! To me it shows the human side of things. Crap just happens sometimes.
It's always amazing to me how they have the material those are made from that can take the abuse of ammunition explosives going time after time ! Has to be some strong stuff when it's that thin and light ! 😊 Thanks for sharing and take care. 👍
Yeah that would have been bad... I can't see up close so I would have never found it! I have had a lot guns shoot the sights loose but this time it just happened to happen on camera.
One heck of a good review as always Buffalo 👍🇦🇺 Looks like a good backup or casual dress throughout Summer gun. I imagine it is a snappy little sucker though? ..
File the trigger corners more round. Really helps ,least wise it did on my db380. Love the db380. 500 rounds of various ammo no problems. Polish the feed ramp and chamber collar A little and good to go
I have WELL over 2,000 rounds through my DB AR-15 with the ONLY malfunctions coming from the stock metal mags. Very reliable guns, so this should hold it's own as well.
I am amazed at how well you shoot with anything every time I watch one of your videos. Small pocket pistol? no problem.I don't know how you do it! and good honest and thorough review as always. Thank you for your videos
Nice little pistol for the money. Agree with you on the +p 9mm ammo. I will use +P in 38 special but have found it unnecessary in 9 mm. There are too many very good standard pressure rounds that don't have the extra recoil. Thanks for the review
I have been doing a lot of research on carry guns. I was looking for something that wouldn’t print very much if at all. I am a personal trainer and I walk to work a lot. I’m using thunderwear deep concealed holster because I wear athletic shorts to work. After going to the gun show last weekend and holding different guns in my hand. This one felt the best. I really thought I was going to resort to a.380 but now I can carry a 9 mm without printing. Every review I’ve seen reported no malfunctions even with plus P ammo. I will be carrying 124 grain hollow points. I don’t think plus P is necessary. The site moving is an easy fix and with practice I believe I can operate the mag release just fine. For me it’s exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks for the size comparison to the LCP. It's nice to see a gun compared to something other than a Glock. The LCP comparison really lets me know how concealable this is. Definitely considering getting one of these.
I look forward too hearing how it holds up long run. That sight issue is not a huge one but still a bit of a pain. For the price I don't think it would bother me as I likely would be adjusting it anyway.
DB9G4 BOUGHT IT FOR 169.00 @ PSA great micro 9 for the price very accurate not one failure yet. I really like this pistol. one of my favorites shoots great pocket carry piece
Great review! I love mine. I have one issue. Bought it used. When I rack the slide with a full mag. The first round gets caught on the firing pin. Once I clear the round it runs fine. I’ve taken the firing pin assembly out, cleaned it, no oil put it back in but doesn’t help. If I put a mag in and rack the slide about a quarter inch, then when I’m ready to shoot I do a full mag rack and it shoots just fine. The firing pin is not in the way. Hope this makes sense. I’m going to order a new firing pin to see if that helps. If anyone has any suggestions I’d appreciate it.
I don't see the site coming loose as a big deal, once the set screw is snugged up with loc tite on it, it should stay in place. At least all you need is a allen wrench to adjust it, if ya need too. The mag release button and slide release being hard to manipulate, is the exact same problem I have with my Glock 17 gen 3. I don't use the slide release much, and I am going to get a extended mag release for it. My Kahr CM9 sure has been a great little gun but this DB9 may have it beat. Time will tell though.
I have seen all types of loose stuff over the years, even torn up muzzle brakes/flash suppressors at 35-50 yards at the range. I would have a serious problem with the mag release but I guess it is a trade off. The price is quite amazing though.
I have had the sights shoot loose on many guns over the years. It just usually happens off camera. Not a big deal to me but if something like that happens whil I have the camera on you guys will see it! That Kahr CM9 of mine has been extremely reliable for me, glad to hear yours is too!

Hello Buffalo, been subbed for a while! I enjoyed the expose. I have a question if you would be able to answer? I picked up a Diamondback Firearms DB9 Gen 4 during the last Black Friday PSA deal last year. Manipulating the slide without much effort could cause the firing pin to float out, thus sticking out. I noticed my firearm when the chamber is empty with anywhere from 1 round to a full mag during releasing the slide from the slide stop position with the firing pin 'sticking out' won't chamber a round. When I tried doing that the bullet rim would get stuck underneath the firing pin with the bullet nose facing upward. That would obstruct the barrel causing the slide not to set all the way into forward motion. This would happen for both full metal jacket and hollow point ammo. Once ammo is fed into the chamber I could proceed to fire rounds successfully until the mag is empty whether between 1 to a full mag available. Quite the contrary, I could successfully chamber the first round by aggressively slingshoting with the slide in forward position while not starting from the slide stop. And, also successfully chamber after the gun was discharged with the last round held open I believe because of the recoil inertia causing the firing pin aka striker to lock back within the firing pin spacer sleave. After my inquiry to Diamondback Firearms their gunsmith replied, "Yeah that’s normal the firing pin doesn’t have a return spring but relies on the slide going forward to pull the firing pin back. So it wont be possible for the gun to slam fire since coming forward the sear is pulling back on the firing pin. So just keep that in mind when chambering the firearm that the firing pin needs to be pulled back when chambering a round." I bought one extra firing pin, maybe I should just put it in and see if I get different results? Have you noticed the same happen on your DB9 Gen 4, you and others? To be fair and honest regardless of brand I believe it's important to vet one's firearm like I said this before. I.e. my Glock 19 Gen 4 had a failure to feed on its second round shot out of it. Also, surveying the internet Sig Sauer, Glock, Smith & Wesson, SKS rifles and others have had complaints and inquiry regarding firing pins floating or sticking out similarly because of having no firing pin return spring. I noticed there's not much on this subject out their, maybe this would be an interesting if not helpful video topic for some, I ask. BTW, kool to see u with a Kahr as well, interesting to hear your talk about racking both. Thnx-Alex!
Nice review. It's been my experience that malfunctions occur with a full magazine with one in the pipe already, giving you full spring pressure when that first round chambers. They don't seem to happen when you rack the slide by hand. Just an observation. Keep on keepin on!
You know what....I wish I would have ran a few mags that way. Thanks for pointing that out. I will be sure to do that the next time you see this gun on a video.
Thank you for your videos. They are well done and I enjoy your conversations with us. I have mot had time to watch all of your reviews but all I have watched so far I have enjoyed. You are a talented shooter. Two of the semi autos you have reviewed are two that I own and appreciate: the new Diamondback DB9 Gen4 and the Remington R1 5” which you reviewed and also the 4-1/4” Commander version, which, except for the length, is identical. As short as the Diamondback is I shoot it quite accurately, which surprised us all. But, as you noted it is on the snappy side. I handle the snappiness pretty well but, I do wrap the first part of my trigger with tape when I am going to practice with it. That trigger needs redesigned so it won’t pinch the finger like you mentioned. You do nice work. Thanks, Fred Kumm Central, PA
I've been thinking about getting this pistol for a while now. It seems like they are getting harder to find so I was glad to see that you did a video on the DB9. In all the videos I've watched regarding the DB9 it seems that it has been extremely reliable. Also, the rear sight has come loose in quite a few videos. A couple of reviewers feel that the rear sight was shipped loose enough for shooters to go ahead and realize that they are adjustable. Lol, I don't know about that but thanks to seeing the reviews I will be checking the rear sight as soon as I get it and put a few rounds through it. I hope it's still shooting good for you, especially since I just ordered one, lol. I'm just looking for a 9mm (true) pocket pistol that's super small and reliable. It's not going to a competition pistol for me, just something that's easy to conceal and good for close quarter situations. I don't own any .380's and seeing that 9mm is cheaper than .380 in most places I'm glad I've stuck with the 9mm. Great review as usual Buffalo. Stay safe and God bless brother.
You don't need no dang sights. And your big meat hooks just hides that pistol. So glad you did this gen 4 I have not seen this gen in the western part of the bluegrass. Seen the newer gen is better and yep sometimes I like the little guys and with me the only one working in the family have to watch my funds. Family comes first then my stuff. Might have to order one just to have around
It is not pleasant to shoot but that wouldn't matter in the heat of the moment. I am still hoping you get the bugs worked out of that little Spectrum. That was a great price if it works out to be reliable.
I wish I knew what I was doing wrong. I'm not a bad shot with most firearms. But I don't even compare to you. It's frustrating. It must be my breathing or trigger control or stance. I don't know. I need to figure it out. Thanks again for another great video.
Great review. It's nice to watch a review from someone who knows what they are talking about and gives the gun a good workout. I'm definitely going to get one of the gen4's. Looks like they got all the reliability problems solved. I have one the 1st generation and I won't carry it because of jamming issues. Looks like Diamondback has stepped up.
Really been wanting to handle one these.think I want one.but I have seen a few videos were the mags fall out when shot..have you have any such trouble?

On the plus side, the Gen 4 can use any Glock sights. So if they fall off, put some better ones on... :-)

Thnx-Alex!
One factor that works in KAHR's favor is recoil.
I missed commenting on this video the day you posted it.
I am just now getting to reply anyway so you're good :)
Good stuff, as always Buffalo!
Thank you!
You earned that blister. Great video!
Thanks! I was kinda embarrassed to show that but I thought I should. This is not a fun gun to shoot!
I will be sure to do that the next time you see this gun on a video.
got a question, at around 17:38 you're working on the sights. I noticed a case of different driver "bits" on your counter. Who makes the set you own?
Nice little budget pistol...Goods stuff....
Thanks Scott!
How is the DB9 treating you nowadays? I’m looking at getting a Nickel version for my CCW.
The sights are loose out of the box. They hope you can tap them into place without tooling.
Great video, buddy! God bless you! 🙏🙏
Thank you!
@@buffalosoutdoors You're welcome, Buffalo! 🐃 I hope you're safe there. You don't live near the East coast, I hope! Hurricane Dorian is not good, bud.
Awesome shooting!
I handle the snappiness pretty well but,
I do wrap the first part of my trigger with tape when I am going to practice with it. That trigger needs redesigned so it won’t pinch the finger like you mentioned.
You do nice work.
Thanks,

Great video as always sir . Thanks
Did the Gen4 come with the front sight in orange from the factory? My gen4 came with a white one. 🤔
The gun shown in the video is 100% factory stock. I haven't changed anything.
DO YOU THINK THE PILGRIM/LIBERTY CIVIL DEFENSE AMMO WOULD BE GOOD IN THE DB9 GEN4
It's a new trigger for me ❤
Great review,,,, they have come a long way ....but they should provide two magazines and some band aids...,,😉
Haha! Agreed!
Nice review. Any chance your friend with the Kentucky Long Rifle can return and do the 100 yd water jugs?
THAT IS A GREAT IDEA! I'll write that down right now and give him a call tomorrow.
Recommended ??
Great video. DB is really paying attention to what needs to be done. Probably gonna get me a DB9 and check it out. Thx!
Do they make holsters and extended mags for it? Disregard. I'll just stick with my mossberg mc1sc.
I had sights come off before I ever shot the gun before.I bought a da/sa gun and was changing springs.locktite to the rescue.
I love loktite! I have had many guns that the sights shoot loose on. It's not a knock on this one. Usually though the camera isn't on!
How's this gun doing after all this time? I just bought one
Great shots. I would have missed. I'm still waiting for this one to appear in the gun shop nearby.
Nice 👍 pistola as Hickok 45 said, the Glock that Glock wishes they had built
I wish I knew what I was doing wrong. I'm not a bad shot with most firearms. But I don't even compare to you. It's frustrating. It must be my breathing or trigger control or stance. I don't know. I need to figure it out. Thanks again for another great video.
Put a laser pointer in the barrel and dry fire with it, it will tell the tale of what is going on.
You will get there! Remember I have bad days as well! Sometimes I just feel like I can't hit the broad side of a barn.
Nice Buffalo!
THank you!
Recently I've heard of the frames warping.are you still shooting your much?any problems out yours?
I have the gen 2 and love it but I have got to get the gen4
Great video. How is the DB9g4 holding up so far and would you have a round count on it? Thanks again
Really been wanting to handle one these.think I want one.but I have seen a few videos were the mags fall out when shot..have you have any such trouble?
No. I actually have trouble getting the mag out! LOL They have that mag release recessed and it's hard for my big fat thumb to get to it.
Do a comparison with the p365.
That would be a good comparison but unfortunately I don't have a P365. I will see if I can hunt one up.
Ok!!! I like it. Thnx Buffalo 👍
Thank you!
I just got one today and I can’t fit all 6 and it jams ones I clock it
