I just wanted to post this as an aggressive correction, but this is much better.
Fun fact, this set is why the Reserve list exists. When collectors heard they were reprinting the Elder Dragons they just completely lost it with WOTC demanding they not do this ever again with high dollar cards.

6:30 Whenever I see an old card that's a 7 mana blue creature, I always make myself laugh by mentally comparing it to Hullbreaker Horror.
So, In yugioh, there's a trend for cards to be 'retrained'-the same character represented by a new, more powerful (and from a modern design approach) card. Sort of like how commander legends did with some old legendary creatures. The legends from Legends deserve this treatment, and the best part is that since almost all of them are vanilla or French vanilla, WotC could just give them whatever effects they wanted.
5:08 Goblin Shrine enchanting any variety of land that fetches another land sure seems like the most efficient way to do that particular shenanigan. Like:
Opponent puts a large quantity of 1 toughness Goblins into play, passes turn.
Terramorphic Expanse.
Goblin Shrine, targeting Terramorphic Expanse.
Fetch a basic, attack into the now empty board, pass.
"The Welliphant has Bamble" actually forced me to pause the video and get my laughter under control. I could not breathe for longer than a couple seconds at a time for like 2 solid minutes because every time I started to calm down I looked over at the screen again and saw Graham's smug goddam face.
Indestructible Aura is one of my favourite cards ever, because it neither is an aura or gives indestructible. Best name ever

Lore note on Feldon's Cane - it was found by Feldon in the same glacier that Marit Lage is trapped within. Feldon pulled several artifacts out of the glacier, and yes, several were apparently cane-like.
One of my few memories of playing Fourth Edition Magic back in the day was a kid convincing me to trade a big green stompy wyrm for Sivitri Scarzam because it was “the same effective mana cost but she’s Legendary”.

I was introduced to so many of those cool Legends legends through Chronicles. Such a nostalgic set.
The falcon dude is not actually throwing up the horns, he has his thumbs out. That's "I love you" in ASL. He's protected by love... just like Harry Potter.
In Arabic, "Abu" means "father of" so "Abu Jafar" is "Father of Jafar" and now makes Disney's usage of the name of just "Abu" for the monkey somewhat non-sensical as the name is "Father of"

@@toddsato633 i guess? But it's an incomplete construction. It's like saying "I go to" as a complete sentence. It requires an object, like "the store." So similarly "abu" requires an object like Abu Bakr (ISIS big wig) which means "Father of the Camel Foal"

Fun fact, Indestructible aura shows not "the horns", but the sign language for I love You. The horns do not have the thumb out.

I have a special love for Indestructible Aura. Truly the highlight of this pack, and indeed most packs.
When I was a kid we did this name game where a person would say their name and everyone else would sing: wibbly wobbly wellephants, and elephant sat on [that person's name with the first letter replaced with a W]

I used to collect Sivitri Scarzams and Visions for the art. We used to joke that I'd name my kid Sivitri Scarzam, which I am glad did not come up when he was born

I wonder if it was a collation issue or just the fact it was a small set but I know I cracked a pack of Chronicles when I was a kid that was almost exactly this same pack. I'm not sure it had a Goblin Shrine. But it definitely had Abu, the wall, Sivitri, the arena, a cane, the witches, the rats, the aura, and a tron land (I can't recall which one though so it might not have been tower)

God I have been playing this game since Darksteel and it will never stop spinning my head that Abu Ja'Far was printed with the type Summon Leper. Like, i _get it,_ but also damn, dude, ya'll couldn't just go with Human? Summon Dude?
Magic didn't have Humans for a LOOOONG time. I'm not even sure what set introduced them. One of my old favorites was Uncle Istvan whose card read "Summon Uncle Istvan" as though there's a whole race of Uncle Istvans running around out there.

Abu bafar has psuedo-death touch which is pretty cool if you can get them in front of multiple atta jets at once

Chronicles was one of the first packs I ever opened. Got it at a Toys'R'Us and it had Axelrod Gunnarson. (Axelrod is also not a good card, but t least he's not a vanilla.)

You could put Goblin Shrine on an opponent's land and then stone rain them. So long as your goblin playing opponent isn't on monored.
Honestly, jafar doesn't seem terrible. Its essentially a 1 mana deathtouch blocker in white.

1) Put Goblin Shrine(s) on your Evolving Wilds. Hold the threat of a goblin only board wipe at the tap of a land! (or just play Tivadar's Crusade)
2) A minor point in the over costed vanilla legends favor -- at the time of their printing, if you wanted a big creature (one bigger than 4/4), you were more likely than not going to have a terrible upkeep cost or similar downside attached to it. Force of Nature, Lord of the Pit, Demonic Hordes, Personal Incarnation, Island Fish Jasconis.... there were a couple that didn't, but they were outnumbered by the ones that did. For all their other faults, at least these legends didn't ask you to sacrifice another creature or spend GGGG during your upkeep to have a big body on the battlefield.
The leper seems awesome if you can give it taunt.

Honestly I am sort of surprised that arena of the ancients is not included in more commander decks.
Seems antithetical to the commander design space, as it just kinda turns off a whole bunch of stuff, so while it’s a neat include in a commander deck, it’s not the kind of thing you’d want in a precon
@@seanclark4071 Exactly it turns off a bunch of stuff magic is competitive and a lot of people are assholes with their decks in the vein of Jerr's take another turn deck from Friday Nights. It is surprising that a card that turns off legendries is not better known . Also doesn't precon mean the preconstructed ready to play decks sold by wizards what do they have to with the obscurity of this card it is from Chronicles they are not going to put it in one of those no matter what it does?

Savirtri has the art thing that I hate where they didn't wanna commit to her being naked or not so she's wearing plate armour only on her legs which is objectively worse on multiple axises than either previous option

oh man, I kinda want to make a commander deck that is totally focused on arena of ancients. The commander will be a card that has a specific effect while tapped.
after looking through gatherer I made my decision on Alibou, Ancient Witness and I will name it "downloading updates"

yep, any sort of Fog Bank effect soaks as much it can take on the card and the rest rolls on through,
At the time it was printed it would cancel trample damage. The rules had significant differences then.
Sivitri has abilities, she just chooses not to use them
Abu Ja'far al Mansur is a historical figure who established the Abbasid caliphate, the empire which would usher in the Islamic Golden Age. And it's the fictional character Ja'far ibn Yahya who's in Arabian Nights and eventually inspires the "sorcerer Jaffar" character. That the Ja'far here is just a lowly, leprous scrub is pretty hilarious considering the grand heights attended by the names above.
