I’m so lucky my local club is both Judo and Sambo, sumi gaeshi is a fantastic technique that sets up submissions really well. You can set up the throw by starting uchi mata, defense is usually to step back which then is perfect off balance to drop on your arse for the overhead throw/ sumi gaeshi. This video shows the technique perfectly thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you for showing this variation. This is one of my favorite throws and I knew there was some detail missing (the way you pull Uke down) where I end up with my opponent on me. I will try this next time I get to do stand up at my Jiu Jitsu gym.
I learned a sweet Uchi Mata to Sumi Gaeshi combo a while back. Essentially if you fail to execute Uche Mata your foot is already in, you just jump and rotate to Sumi Gaeshi.
Although difficult without the Gi, I hit a variation of this from Russian 2 on 1. Usually my 3 or 4 technique in chain sequence if they resist. 1. Shuck forward to the ground and take back. 2.shuck backwards and do outside leg sweep 3.dip inside with arm for 2 on 1 fireman's to knee on belly or armbar/side control 4. Step inside and do a very similar throw to this one where I jam their hand into their solar plexus and arch and throw backwards. Tip: if you can switch to Kimura grip once theyre hand is in their chest your grip with be a lot better with a lot more leverage
@@IvanVasylchuk_silapartera it's pretty similar in my opinion. Only difference really is with no Gi to grab I just leverage on the close arm. If we have the Gi I'll just set it up with the 2 on 1. Virtually no difference otherwise in set up or execution of the throw.
If possible I tend to go for hikikomi-gaeshi instead. Then it's definitely one of my main throws, probably the number one. Extraordinarily efficient against a defensive bent-over stance, which is very common in BJJ/MMA. Against a judoka I would have less opportunities and would mostly use it as a counter.
This is my number one throw in BJJ. The bent of passive straight legged posture is so common especially in ultra heavy and this is kryptonite to them. Even if you end up finishing with yoko sumi gaeshi to the side. There's even a back take there if they try to defend the throw by turning towards your hook
I fully agree. Used to be one of my favourites. However I prefer Gantschuk's(?) version where you roll straight over and land in the mount. And I also found this to be a perfect counter throw to Morote Gari(double leg). It surprises me that not many point this out and why it is so seldom seen in MMA. As we all know, leg attcks are banned by the IJF these days, which is silly IMO. Suppose it's still legal in Sambo. Thanks.
Great video and details thanks. I like your detailed explanations since sometimes during the fast movements or rolls those subtleties can be missed. For us beginners would it be possible to add a slow motion replay of those subtle details where you think it might be helpful in future videos? Thanks again!
Ibrahim Sealy yes, I used to do it when I wrestled. You just do a traditional sumi gaeshi but instead of pulling down on the lapel and grabbing the belt for example, you pull down your opponents head (or head and arm) while in the clinch, then while he is looking down on the Mats and back is facing up you wrap both arms around the waste line, Or a bit above (so your opponent doesn’t hit his head on the mat, while rolling) (anyways the hold will look like sort of a reversed bear hug) it’s basically like a tawara gaeshi, it just has the added benefit of your leg in between the thigh to execute the throw
Isn't this a variation (one of many!) of "YOKO Sumi Gaeshi" ? Also, for no gi can cradle around the ribs (over the back) for control as in Sophie Cox video here.
@@IvanVasylchuk_silapartera What states will you been in? If you come to Arizona, I would gladly come to a class/seminar of yours. Beautiful throws, just beautiful.
Looks like a strength move. Am I wrong? Also - if the opponent is not wearing a gi or jacket or anything robust and loose enough to grab, is there another way to execute this throw?
Its often call the lazy mans throw, get a russian tie or get inot a collar tie and then overhook one arm and place the other hand at the ear and pull and you can do it from there
Yeah, but it's gotta be both of them. That said, I prefer the following method: Right hand: crotch. Left hand: double-eye poke. Works best, from my experience. Pro tip: make sure you hit the V ... for either hand.* *You go in -- you in DEEP. ... I have the suspicion there's a life lesson in there somewhere ...

"Ukranian Judo". I've never heard that term before, but i love what it fills my imagination with.

this is a good throw👍
I wonder why the student seems so miserable... i wonder if its from the half dozen nut throws.
He's miserable because of communism 😂
Russians are just serious.
go and try him )))
Might of been a good day to wear a cup? And it's not weird that he keeps cupping his junk with his foot, because he's wearing shoes.
Very nice!!!
THANK YOU!!!!
I learn so much from you. You should plan a seminar in Tampa.
Thank you so much! And where is Tampa, which country? If you organize a seminar, I will come without problems
Бросок стал моей короной! 👍
I do bjj and use this all that time in stand up. It's a good one
I do this throw all the time
Sambo rules.
love from Morocco

Yes, I will soon buy a good camera and there will be a slow-motion video.
Чудовий відеоролик !! Я почав дзюдо зараз, і я всього 70 кг, і я тренуюся з партнером по 90 кг ... ці відео дійсно дають мені перевагу
ДЯКУЮ! Я дуже радий, що у вас все виходить👍
1:38 let me translate "sumi gaeshi" : groin hook overhead kick throw
xD
I'd like to see it in slow motion.
Hector Alejandro Ruiz play it at 0.5 speed
some knuckle heads dont wear a cup I am wondering how they would feel about this throw
wow, thanks ivan. i never see that in judo. first time seeing this technique
AGUANTE EL SAMBO!!!!¡
I recently transitioned from Judo to Folkstyle wrestling and I always land this throw on them
Good reception👍
Serious question, can this be modified to no gi? It's a good set up, scratch that it's a great set up.

Yes you can, we learned it a few times in freestyle
Used to call it a lateral roll under or a Sonic the Hedgehog!!!
Isn't this a variation (one of many!) of "YOKO Sumi Gaeshi" ? Also, for no gi can cradle around the ribs (over the back) for control as in Sophie Cox video here.
This is no joke, I teach people street survival for free I use combat sambo for the street many women told me it saved there life
Are you actually putting pressure on the other guys groin area?
arse area
Do you ever train in the United States? Would love to learn some sambo and improve my take down game
Hi, i plan a US tour....in 2023

Where is a link to the hotyuk throw?
I do that throw into a kneebar.
Could be so
Do you think i could hit this off of a russian tie in no gi/wrestling?
Grab the lat
DAMN, I wish I'd been a grappler!!!
What's stopping you? Go do it man, make what you want happen!!
It ain't never too late
It's exactly what Ivan said towards the end of the video....go for it, and believe in yourself.
Can you do this in bjj competition?
I only did this throw at the IBJJF Masters in Barcelona... watch my latest videos
👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏

I do this when people go for single leg and they almost have me.
Grab the lat-muscle in no-gi.
Its one of the best counter to singleleg
FINALLY!!!
Something actually functional and not bullshit martial arts..
What if he's way behind bigger you???
That is a modified tomoe nague!!!!
how do i buy a tshirt with your logo?
You would use the internet and money to do that.
Any good Sabmo schools in NYC?
