I'd love to hear a story about how you guys ended up in Washington DC... at what was it? A really for science and a return to civility or something like that? I remember having so much hope at that time. I graduated in 06, so 08 was my first presidential election. I had no idea you guys were gonna be there, doing what? What else... Using the massive crowd to collect data 😂
14:20 I feel like with the Jamie story it might be missed that Jamie was agreeing with the *experience* of having science win out which required Jamie to fight for actually building and testing the pneumatics. That is to say to settle the disagreement with APPLIED science. It's like if you're going to have a duel it might be settled the one with obviously superior skill is going to win but the challenge is still there and the science should be carried through. Put another way it might be more the reaction of arguing rather than just going straight to testing that he was disillusioned about.
I feel like Grant Imahara overdosed on fentanyl and he pulled a Bo Biden when they just covered it up with a 'brain disease' because he's like too big to fail. Am I reading that right?

If you or Mythbusters ever get the chance to revisit the bridge, I have a simple suggestion.
Take one of those military-grade modular bridge kits, connect them to a point-a and a point-b over any terrain, the point being to see movement of the bridge ends from their original starting positions.
It's like putting an electric toothbrush turned to on upon a table. It moves around because of vibration, so why couldn't a small build-anywhere bridge?
RIP Grant. You are dearly missed.
Grant was great people, and no one will ever convince me otherwise. You can always tell the quality of the person by the stories told after they pass.

I love how Adam lights up whenever Adam gets a chance to remenisce/ reflect on Grant. Seems like it instantly brings him to his happy space. That must be the best legacy to leave behind, when your loved ones immediately feel better just remembering you.

I agree with both of you, and I'm pretty sure the fluttering between those emotions is one of the best indicators of how much Adam cared for Grant.
I miss that guy, but I love all of the stories.

It was always amusing when you and Jamie built a robot to test a myth and if it failed, Grant would come in and re-engineer the whole thing and it would work.
I stood in line to meet Jaime, Adam, and Grant at Maker Faire, 2006. I just missed Adam, because he had to take Thing 1 or 2 to the bathroom. Jaime stared gruffly at me as I approached for my photo, and gave me a small nod, but Grant came right up to me, looked me in the eyes so kindly, shook my hand, asked my name - Gary - and said "It's really nice to meet you, Gary!" He said it so warmly and meaningfully that I was a little surprised. He made it seem like he was meeting someone special, instead of the other way around, and I was probably 30+ people back in line, so he'd already been through this dozens of times, and kept up the caring energy the whole time, and I'm sure he'd already been through years of that. Such a good dude.
I know 'celebrities' do this for a job, and its their JOB to be nice to you and make you feel seen and appreciated when you meet them, but some of them are SO good at it and even if it is their job they seem to genuinely enjoy meeting their fans. I've met a few celebrities like that in the past, and some who were absolutely kinda done with the whole day by then, but when you meet someone you really admire and they seem happy to meet you, it means so much, i don't care why they do it.
@@Neopopulas I'm a Z-list local celeb (musician) in my area, so I deal with a fraction of that at shows. To add to what you said, the way I see it, being cordial and friendly with people (almost overly as the OP mentioned) is just part of the performance. That's not to say it's not genuine, because it is. There's 2 things I do, get the person talking about themselves, and then pretend I've known them my entire life. They're a fan of you already, so you're probably pre-disposed to getting along just fine. Then it's easy as can be. Treat them like a friend of yours.
Robin Williams and Woody Harrelson stayed at a hotel I worked at when I was 16. I was the resident potthead so when they came in to meet the cooks, Robyn and Woody met me and both asked where to get some. so at the end of my shift I'm out-side smoking a few joints with them and the (most lol) of the staff. Everyone goes back in except me and Robyn and he was still at 110% with just us 2. I just put my hand on his shoulder and said "I watched Alladin probably 1000 times as a kid, you've entertained me enough, relax bud" and I had never heard a sigh like that in my life. we stood there in the alley and we smoked the joint while I did my best to tell him crazy north stories and entertain him.
your grant story sorta reminded me of this , definite different set of circumstances, but a similar trait causing it I do believe

The way he presented himself on camera, the energy and charisma he always seemed to have, I can absolutely see that as being him all the time. He seemed like such a great guy to be around. The fact that Adam still gets choked up thinking about him really says a lot
Jamie was so sorry that even though he didn't say it, he was thinking about it years later and changed his entire approach to problems so it wouldn't happen again.

Some people just don't have it in them to apologise properly, sadly. Admitting fault and taking the stance of humility is just a step too far for their egos, even after years. Apologise when you're wrong, folks. It goes a long way.

Sadly, apologies mean nothing anymore since people have completely lost their capability to truly forgive or rather don't want to, even if the mistakes made were simply human.

That little choke every time Adam reminisces about Grant always gets me, it shows how dear he was to him. Also, talking about a vicious argument with Jamie but not taking the opportunity to throw shade or disrespect shows Adam's character. Their relationship always fascinates me.
Jamie, a little bit on the spectrum? I'm not educated enough about it to know when somebody's marginally on the spectrum so I wouldn't have known but Adam handled it with I guess about as much grace as one can.

Growing up it was so great to see Grant Imahara, a fellow Asian, on TV using his technical prowess and having so much fun working and Mythbusting with all of you. Definitely helped me solidify my own career path. Now, as a more-or-less fully-realized mechanical engineer, I look back and appreciate his representation all the more.
God, I miss him. He was so much fun to watch as a kid growing up with Mythbusters.

My Grant story. I was walking to get coffee in the Mission of San Francisco. Grant was walking towards me on the sidewalk. He was with a group of friends. I didn't immediately recognized but I knew he looked familiar. I was racking my brain trying to figure out how I knew him. He must have saw me looking a bit confused. He gave me this huge smile and a nod that communicated, "Yeah, I'm Grant"
Pretty grand.
Grant is the only mythbuster I’ve been fortunate enough to met in person. I was maybe 14 or so at the time.

Same here! He gave a talk at my undergrad university and I was so lucky to meet and talk with him for a few minutes afterwards

I’ve been lucky enough to meet Adam twice when he’s come to Australia. Once for the behind the myths tour with Jamie and once for his brain candy show. A true gentleman and passionate person, what you see is what you get.
Always takes time to make the fans feel special.
Wish I could have met Grant too, I think he would have been an amazing person to meet
I'm not one who gets broken up about celebrity deaths... I think everyone has different capacities for parasocial relationships... But Grant is the one that genuinely makes me sad when his name comes up. He seemed like such a good dude on every level, and everyone really seemed to love him. He left such a positive impression on the world and I hope I can leave the same positivity in my wake when I leave.

Grant and Kari were walk through DIA airport, some one was like “yo, myth busters!”. I look up, see Grant and Kari. I asked them if they could say Hi to my daughter who is into science and totally idolize you two. They were so awesome and nice and said “Hi Ariel, it’s Grant and Kari, glad you’re a fan, keep doing science!” My daughter was blown away.
Grant Tory and Kari were the greatest trio of all time. Grant was such a beacon. From his first episode, he was a bright star who exuded a passion for everything he did. Such a tragedy. He was an amazing person in every way. You are lucky to have been a friend of his.
You are missing one from the original three, Jessi Combs who also is sadly missed.

Grant and Jesse Combs are some of the brightest modern minds taken too soon and the most wholesome people to boot
Grant had a light in him that came through in show. It was obvious he truly loved learning and loved the folks around him. He always brighten the screen when he was on.
I still follow his gf/fiance on IG, and she sometimes shares posts remembering him, still. He clearly was loving, and was (and still is) loved.
I am not often affected by the loss of a famous person but losing Grant really got to me. He was very active on Twitter and it was always so nice to see him live his wonderful life with such passion and positivity. When that stopped so suddenly it was like a punch in the nose. He was a good man.

Man hearing Adam talk about Grant reminds me of how I always talk about my bestfriend who passed away 3 years ago. Words can’t describe how much I miss him. Rest in peace Grant and to my buddy Andrew

I used Grant's Jamie mustache impression the other day and it killed without me even trying.
I'm so glad Adam is around to tell all these wonderful stories and keep people like Grant alive in our memories.
Grant was my idol while growing up with the show. He was just funny and nerdy. He was amazing. And now that I’m an adult I hope he is resting very well.
I'll never forget when Grant showed us the model shop during take-your-daughter-to-work-day. His passion was so clear to me even as a kid.
I vividly remember the day Grant Imahara’s death was announced and how horribly it hit me. A piece of my childhood as an Asian-American STEM-loving kid.
I grew up to become a veterinarian. I cried like a baby watching this video today. Thank you, Adam, for sharing some more memories of one of my idols.
I'm sorry for any grief or pain these stories bring up Adam. As someone who grew up watching Mythbusters, I really love hearing these stories of Grant Imahara. It's easy to see the genuine friendship and love you have for this man we all miss dearly. Thank you both for inspiring and entertaining us all. ❤️🇨🇦❤️
What is grief but love persevering? I think Adam would agree.
My college (NMT) is closely tied with EMRTC and took part in helping blow up the cement mixer. I was so psyched when the school advertised the Mythbusters were going to visit our school for a presentation (I think it was at some point between 2011-2013).
Like many of us I grew up on the show and was so pumped thinking we were going to see Adam and Jamie. However, shortly before doors opened I heard that it was actually Grant presenting solo… I honestly felt *bummed*.
But it ended up being the best presentation by far that I would ever see at our school. I genuinely left that night being so grateful it was him, he blew us away with how cool he is as a person. His passion and accomplishments brought me so much inspiration in a time I really needed it.
I’m bummed I’ll never see him in person again, but I cherish the little piece of my life where I did.
I can just imagine Jamie's slightly-dumbstruck expression, upon realizing what Adam had just mentally unpacked for him in that moment... 🤣
It was also probably the shock which prevented an apology, as well as undoubtedly a bit of him thinking an apology was _implied_ through his admission of that being what happened. 😊

You and your wife are one of my favorite clients. Back in 2008. I helped you with color palettes for the exterior of your house, I remember you working on a pair of boots from the movie Alien, i was so blown away by all the cool stuff you had. We had a mutual friend who was a flight attendant and British Airways that got you into first class. He came to visit, and we got to spend part of the day at M5. We both still talk about that day. Really love this channel.

When he drummed I didn’t even register that Adam was doing the impression for the first couple seconds.

I just found out Grant is no longer with us.
Grant inspired me even being in my 60's.
I was always impressed with his intelligence, and since of humor, and just a good guy persona.
I hope his legacy will carry forward to the STEM program founded by mom, and coworkers.
The STEM students should be inspired by his example.
If you want to take a walk down memory lane, they auctioned off a bunch of stuff for the STEM organization made in Grant's honor. Adam shows off a bunch of it from props, to the blueprints, to busted cameras.
I'm tearing up in my office. But I'm glad. Years ago, crying while thinking about Grant meant devastation and disbelief and denial. Now I just... Miss all of the good he did. So so badly. This has helped tremendously.
It never gets old hearing you speak about Grant Imahara. The love and friendship, is always crystal clear in your voice when you speak about him. Your body language, facial expression, and your eyes in particular, change when you talk about him, and it really shows how deep a respect and friendship the two of you shared. You light up when you speak about him, and that speaks volumes about him - he is someone who sparked joy in you, and so many others, and it is magical to experience him vicariously, both through watching reruns of Mythbusters, and through hearing yourself and the rest of the Mythbusters team reminiscing about him
You can hear in Adam's voice how much Grant meant to Adam, and how much of an amazing person he was.
We'll never forget Grant. He had this great light about him. You can tell he was a beautiful soul.. Rest in Paradise Grant🫶🏼
Poor Adam. In every video he’s always joyful. But in this you can see how thinking of Grant upset him. Doesn’t take a genius to know he must miss him dearly.

I know nothing of Jamie other than what we have all seen, but one of my fav reactions from Jamie is when he gets nervous and gets that nervous laugh. You just know whatever they are building is producing something crazy.
It was so fun watching Jamie in the first Star Wars episode. I'm guessing he wasn't looking forward to physically doing it but probably didn't have much choice since Adam had an injured arm. It was hilarious when Jamie wore the Luke Skywalker costume. When actress Sophia Bush came out dressed as Princess Leia and sweetly asked Jamie to be her Luke, the bashful look on his face was incredible. It may have been the only time we saw him look like that. 😊
What a tremendous loss that is still felt and always will be.
The Albert Bridge in London UK still has a sign saying, “ ALL TROOPS MUST BREAK STEP WHEN MARCHING OVER THIS BRIDGE”.
I saw Grant at Labyrinth of Jareth years ago, but I hadn’t watched Mythbusters in a while by then. I saw him participating in old timey line /ballroom dancing and he caught my attention because his face looked so familiar but I couldn’t place it. Turns out he caught on to my trying to place him (didnt realize I was staring 🤦🏽♀️) so when the lightbulb lit up, I must have made a face like 😮, because I saw him laughing at my reaction while trying to stay in step with the ballroom/line dancing. I laughed back so it was mutual laughter in acknowledgment. I didn’t approach because he was with friends and dancing, but one of my best memories ever. RIP Grant, you’re missed.
I recently started rewatching all the Mythbusters episodes on Max and couldn't wait to get to the Grant episodes. It was sad but rewarding seeing how much he added to an already satisfying program. Just today, my wife and I were remarking about how much we love and miss Grant. Seems fitting that this video posted today. Thanks so much for the Grant stories. I think I speak for all of us fans when I say that I can't get enough of them.
Grant always was one of my absolute favorite parts on MythBusters, he gave me so much joy when I was growing up. RIP

Grant was simply irreplaceable. Truly a joy to watch and to learn from.
I was so shook when he died. His presence was so kind gentle and generous. He just was always happy and brought that happiness to others. I really do think Dumbeldore is right. “Do not pity the dead. Pity the living,and. Above all, those who live without love.” I really feel that says it all. Still hurts though. These past few years. We have seen so much death, pain, and suffering. We need people like you in our lives Adam. Seriously there absolutely has to be balance. And you provide that balance. ❤
I'm pretty sure Mythbusters was a decent factor in my eldest son becoming a mechatronic Engineer. When free-to-air TV was a relevant thing (today not so much), we as a family lapped up everything from Grand Designs to Holmes on Homes, with Mythbusters, Battlebots, and so many others in-between. The guy was a fucking real one. The incredible outpouring of love and respect after his passing for days on end just goes to show how much people cared about him. It's a good legacy to leave behind.
As a person who speaks in other person's voices when I'm taking about them, I feel this deeply. It's not an impersonation, it's a reverent retelling. Even if it's not the best. It comes from deep watchung and knowing and loving.
RIP, Grant. We previous fans of Mythbusters will always remember you. Take comfort from the fact that those episodes with him in it are out there, on TV, still.

Grant stories are so fun and I miss him, he was definitely one of my favourites. But the Jamie and Adam dynamic was always my favourite and it's so interesting to hear these stories in detail years later after the fact.
I know it’s hard to share these stories about Grant but it really helps us process losing him. It’s good to remember.

I have seen every Mythbusters episode Grant was in and loved his... Quirks, shall we say. But when I really got into BattleBots, and saw his impact on the sport, especially when they mourned his loss, I felt I saw the full side of Grant. I wish I could have met him. RIP Grant! You'll always have place in the heart of this proud nerd!

I was lucky enough to see Grant give a talk at my university. Dream come true, as Mythbusters was a BIG part of my childhood. And at the end of it, he teased that he was working on something big with Disney. Sure enough, about 6 months later, they revealed their stunt performer robots. So now everytime I see a video of Spiderman flying over Avenger Campus, I think of Grant ❤
Every time I remember that grant is gone it hits me like a truck. It feels like yesterday that I was watching mythbusters air with the trio getting up to their usual antics and it still feels unreal that such a larger than life person like grant could be gone.

I miss talking to Grant on RPF. When he got excited about something, you just couldn't help get excited too. I remember going back and forth with him about how BB-8 worked (he nailed it of course 😂). Miss you man.

I was lucky enough to meet Grant like 12 years ago in college and speak with him for a few minutes after he presented something. Honestly I can't remember what the presentation was about but Grant's humor and kindness still sticks with me today. He was inspirational on a fundamental level. One of the greats 😎

Still miss Grant, and I never even met him. His kindness, talent and passion was just so obvious, effortless and genuine.
There is only two celebrities whose passing have ever affected me and Grant's was one of them. I grew up watching MythBusters and he was far and away my favorite cast member on the show. It was so inspiring watching the things he'd make and what he'd accomplish with just his brain and engineering skills. He was humble, and easy to like to boot. There is probably a whole generation of engineers who got their first inspiration as a kid watching him. I ended up a developer myself, but even I can look back and say watching Grant had a big eventual impact on me going for a STEM career.

To this day I miss grants Energy, I believe he left a huge mark on the whole community weather it be props, models, technical, or even just plain film he was able to light up in an instant. Love you all in my childhood I don’t think I’d be the same without you all growing up. Love you Grant rest well 💜
I luckily got to meet Grant at a FIRST Robotics competition. What an amazing passionate guy. He is an inspiration for many.
Grant had a profound impact on me growing up and is a big reason I am the person I am today. My biggest regret is not being able to thank him for his inspiration in person.

I remember watching Battle Bots with my dad and brother, long before I knew about Grant and Adam/Jamie & Crew. I was always so blown away with his work, before I knew of his work, really. Then when Mythbusters came out I was hooked, didn't even know Grant was the creater of Deadblow at the time, he was and is one of my favorites from MB, not counting Adam & Jamie. Was a sad day when Grant left this world. But, the world is a better place because he was in it. ❤RIP Legend.

Also, just wanted to say I love how you talk about you and Jamie. You have no problem saying he frustrated you - but at no point did you disrespect him in how you voiced those frustrations. It's clear you have a lot of respect for who he is, warts and all. I appreciate that level of grace and honesty, and the collaboration it can help unlock.

That first story is adorable. I know it's a little weird to say that about grown adults, but I don't know how else to say it. He seems like he was such a positive influence on those around him.

Ive been rewatching the whole Series again over the last few weeks and getting to the point where Grant joins was bitter sweet, he was always a favorite of mine along with Adam. You could just feel his excitement and love of engineering through the screen everytime he was working on something. And his stuff nearly always worked so well. Such an awesome human.

Ive just started watching the entire MythBusters again, I am only on Season 1 episode 6 and god its just so so good, I adore you guys so much you really did give me fantastic memories of watching you guys and learning from you guys in such a fun way.

It's so wonderful that people have all these stories about Grant. The Backstreet Boys one is so funny! It makes me so happy that Matt created an NPC inspired by him in Critical Role. I love when the party gets to interact with him.
WOW, I love hearing these lovely stories of friends in our lives that have passed and how you remember him very fondly. They say that imitation is the better form of flattery or something like that.

Never got to meet Grant but the stories about him are just amazing. The clips with Fon Davis are absolutely amazing and really bring a tear to the eye. So happy Grant was immortalized on Mythbusters. Most of us would’ve never known of him otherwise.
Grant is always missed. Jamie is someone who we didn't know we needed in our lives and since he has retreated he is also greatly missed. If he were still part of tested it would be great.
Jamie has admitted he’s not the type who likes to be on camera. It makes me wonder if he’s a more “behind the scenes” type of person.
