      Instead of all the wafers being spring loaded in one direction, half of them go the other direction out the other side of the lock core. Without a lockpick like this, it is equivalent to having to pick two locks simultaneously.
      If you look at the key, you'll notice each side the key is cut differently on both sides. Each corner of the key is meant to interface with half of the wafers, and the adjacent corner of the key interfaces with the other half of the wafers.

    • @keith6706
      @keith6706 3 ปีที่แล้ว +94

      Both sets of wafers, on the left and right sides of the key, have their own separate slots in the lock body they engage in when locked. So when you turn the key clockwise, the wafers on the top left side have to pass by the slot on the top right, and the bottom right over the slot on the bottom left. If you've picked the lock, when the core rotates, the left side top wafers drop into the right side top slot, and bottom right into the bottom left slot. That's why you need to pick them again, either to continue rotating it the same way or to rotate it back.

That is, not only is the method trivializing the task, I'm not learning anything from the demonstration. Even if the key is programmed to the vehicle the alarm will still go off, though I notice its not 100% of the time, but most of the time. It came that way when he purchased it. Very likely this car was broken in to and the perp left the lock the way it was, so the owner sold it without making any mention of this critical flaw. • @chrislaws4785
    @chrislaws4785 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I started watching your videos a while back and started watching videos about picking your standard padlocks and door locks. I bought a set of fairly cheap picks just to see IF I could do it myself and if I even liked doing it before I spent a lot of money on expensive ones. And well, I found that even I as a beginner was able to pick both the door handle and the dead bolt on my front door in anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 min with VERY little effort. Needless to say, it made me change my door locks to something much more substantial pretty damn quick . I wanted to make it as hard as possible for anyone to pick my door lock, even though nothing can make it IMPOSSIBLE. Like my grandpa use to say "locks are only meant to keep the honest people out"

      Why? If someone messes with your door lock you can't open the door any longer, why would that make you happy?

    • @evilspoons
      @evilspoons 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gilbatzri Because it took him forever to pick, even with a purpose-built tool, and it leaves a sign that someone's screwed with it unless they spend even MORE time on it to reset it. If my driver's door is stuck odds are pretty good keyless entry will still open the other three doors or the hatch.

    • @gilbatzri
      @gilbatzri 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@evilspoons except the scenario of "picking a car door lock to gain entry/steal the car" is not an actual thing that happens ever. Like there is a 0% chance of someone attempting to pick your car door lock.
      If someone wants something from the cabin, they will gain entry via a window. It's faster and easier.
      If they want to steal the car (if it is at all reasonably recent) you need the chipped key to turn on the car, even if you have a matching cut key it won't work, nor will hotwiring the car.
      So the scenario you are imagining and being "happy with this result" of is nonsensical.
      In practice all this means is you have to pay someone to unscrew your lock if it is tampered with. Not sure why you think this is a benefit, but whatever works for you.
      I had a 2012 Subaru Impresa and it was good in an accident, but it was a piece of garbage aside from that, low quality fixtures, bad engineering, the clutch failed catastrophically in the first 3 years, the engine leaked oil from day one, and eventually based on a class action lawsuit they lost the engine was completely replaced.
      Subaru is a garbage company that didn't stand behind their poorly engineered and manufactured product, and their service staff was actively rude in their handling of a manufacturing defect that everyone in the world knew about.
      The Mazda we replaced it with is better engineered, drives better, and is an all over superior vehicle to the Subby.

      I’m not actually familiar with this lock, but if I had to guess, I’d say the “pins” for side A are getting caught up on the “drivers” for side B (side B “drivers” could be some sort of traditional driver pin, or maybe a sidebar channel, or something else that stops the lock from turning.) It’s not intentionally designed to get stuck there, but it’s also not really an error with the design, as the lock shouldn’t be operated without the key. With the proper key in place, the “pins” for side A will always be in the correct position, so able to turn freely.

    • @stargazer7644
