  • I've decided to do a tribute bass to one of the more interesting basses in Geddy Lee's fleet, the Teardrop Bass. Around 1976, Geddy had his Fender Precision Bass modified and turned into a teardrop shape, from the body to the headstock to the inlays and even the pickguard. He said in his Big Beautiful Book Of Bass that it ruined the sound and has said in interviews that he apologizes every time he sees it.
I'm doing my tribute bass on a short scale, using a Squier Mini Precision bass that I just purchased. For hardware, I'm going to be using DiMarzio Model P+J pickups and an original BadAss Bridge. This video is part 1.

The original Badass bridge was meant to be countersunk into the body.... I hadn't realized Geddy had it done, I thought he bought it that way.

Vox is the only bass meant to be in a teardrop shape. I’m sure Geddy even knows that was a major mistake to treat a P-bass that way.

Haha. Yes, Geddy said in his book that he apologizes to the bass every time he sees it. 😄
