- It was the first time that Gukesh played against Magnus Carlsen after becoming the World Championship Challenger. This happened at the Superbet Grand Chess Tour taking place in Warsaw, Poland. This was an exciting encounter as Gukesh went for Magnus' throat right from the get go and Magnus showed some classy play. Would Gukesh succumb or would he manage to save his position. People saying gukesh got lucky needs to consider this,
Gukesh made only one wrong move and he got worse (Gukesh's fault)
Magnus, made 2-3 inaccuracies in a completely winning position, hence, game drew (MAGNUS' FAULT)
Forcing Magnus into inaccuracies takes some doing. YU Wei and Abdusattarov could not force Magnus into inaccuracies and lost. Gukesh forcing Magnus into inaccuracy and escaping with a draw from a completely lost position was epic.
it wasn't like that... GUKESH made 1 big blunder but saved the game with finding the only moves that lead to draw whereas MAGNUS missed the only move that keeps his advantage and then played the best moves after that but had already lost the advantage.
So to conclude,
GUKESH made 1 BLUNDER and then found the ONLY moves to save the game into DRAW.
MAGNUS made 1 move that MISSED WIN for him but proceeded to find the BEST moves later on and held DRAW.
Getting your opponent to make unlucky games is considered a part of Chess as well (Magnus does it all the time), so well played to Gukesh.

Dont know why players are hell bent to not trade their bishops for knights. I mean i know its a slightly inferior trade, but in this game it would have solved so many of Gukesh's problem if he had traded his light squared bishop at the start and then castled queen side if he was afraid of Carlsen's bishop on b7.
