Fantastic, I have honestly never thought about having a sculpture galvanized. My hat is off to you sir. Glad you seem to have found a good home for this amazing piece. Thank you for posting this update video.
Thank you! for stuff made of steel hot dip galvanizing gives at least 50-100+ years of rust proof protection out side so its its usually my first choice if I want the piece to last longer than I will, also with complex and hard to reach parts dipping works well to ensure the whole piece is protected.
This sculpture is freaking unbelievable! I love all your films. Your skills are amazing. I also would love to see new "How to forge..." video. Learning from you is an honour, sir! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you that's very kind! I feel very encouraged!! i'm just about to post a video and i'm just edditing a how to one at the moment, let me know what you think when I publish it. all the best. J
Such a great piece, well done. Another way to protect thread is to pack the internal thread with ‘office blue tack’ prior to processing, prevents galvanizing of the thread and easy to remove.
Thank you! thats a good tip. wooden dowl worked well its just cleaning out the charcoal, ive greesed bolts before and found they came out again after also.
I have just discovered hot zinc spraying where molten zinc is sprayed on the job. It gives a super smooth finish with no drips and has the advantage that you don’t need to drill holes in hollow objects. I would really recommend you give it a go.
Hi Gary. I've had things metalized or flame sprayed before, its good as you say however parts like this horse have a lot of internal detail that a spray can't reach and dipping get into all the nooks and cracks for rust free peace of mind. Dipping is cheaper also depending on drip feckle time after. Copper or bronze hot spraying is good and can be patinated as if it where solid bronze. But made far more cost effectively. Cheers J
Hi Joshua this is late I know,,,,,,,, have had similar issues with weld showing up after galvanizing, even if taken back flush with a flap wheel. just listened to your comment re the cooling down process. I may next time try and finish the weld and clean up, then reheat the area to beyond mig welding heat and see if that helps. Enjoy watching your clips ,,,,, Cheers Charlie "not a real blacksmith" @byqnique
Your work is a wonder Joshua! Only thing I do not like is your tagline or motto. I find it too depressing. I have been struggling with depression for many years and have quite recently been diagnosed with ADHD. Maybe that is why I find your tagline depressing. Anyway keep up your great work! Johan
Thank you Johan for your kind words and your honesty! However did you know that I also was diagnosed with ADHD and mild depression at one point. I was supended from scool because of my behavier and fell well behind in class because of Dyslexia also. The despression was bad enough to de-motivate me to not want to do anything and I would often be locked in my room playing PC games for 15 hours straight to escape the real world. It got bad enough for me to question and say to myself "what is the point to life, I didn't choose to be born here just face this rubish every day", I was lonely, people thought I was stupid and so I would either hide away or try and get attention by doing the wrong things and putting my self further into a deep hole..... Are you interested in how things got turned around for me?
You are welcome! Yes I remember you shared your story about ADHD, but I would very much like to hear the rest of your story. Your actions are very similar to mine, with trouble in school, violence, bullying and attention problems. Also PC and videogames have been a huge problem for me in the past. Thank you for sharing your love with the craft! Johan
there are key points and things that helped. understanding that ADHD and Dyslexia are not problems but are gifts are the first to get right. people with ADHD are highly creative and adaptable, infact although you appear to be loosing attention we can have a tendency to hyper focus to the point that we forget to eat because we are so engrossed in what we are doing usually to the neglect of our responsibillities.the truth is at school we needed so much more interaction and creative play that the teachers and the class cannot keep up with us. anxiety comes whith the fustration of not having something interesting to do and being made to feel naughty and stupid because we are not like the others. Pc games give us an instant buzz of gratification at our own pace and we have freedom to explore and be creative. schools push academia onto every one and generally teach as though we all learn the same way, but the truth is if given a diffent appoach we can learn just as quick if not quicker if we are interested in the subject.... does that ring true to you and shall I continue?
Joshua De Lisle Yes please continue! I find that your lifestory have a lot of similarities with my own. I am begining to see my own strengths and also view my actions from another perspective. People have long said to me that I am slow, but I have now begun to question that assumption. I am not slow; I care ablut the details and I am meticulous.
That sounds very similar to the hyper focus that ADHD people have that seems like a contradiction to the so called 'condition' but again it is another strength. procrastination and time management has always been a problem for me but I have learned ways to manage my weeknesses and build on my strengths. A little while ago I was given a book called the 'strength finder profile' its a simple read and at the end you log online to do a psychometric test, The book details how there is more room to improve on your strengths than there is in your weaknesses and companies shouldn't focus on improving what people are weak at, and instead should focus on people are good at. the test gave me my top 5 strengths along with some good points on how to manage my weeknesses. All of what the test said gave me confidence in my abbilities and not to worry about what i'm not good at. I now know exactly what work is right for me to be successful by understanding who I am and that importantly knowing that I AM NOT STUPID! but I am gifted in ways most of the population could only dream of thanks to ADHD which in my opinion should be called something diffent. How does that make you feel and do you have any questions so far?

A wonderful piece! Is T-wash a home made concoction or a product off the shelf?
Its off the shelf I buy mine from Underwoods steel in worcester. but if you google it you can buy it online.
Joshua De Lisle Thank you!
Thank you and all the best. J
Yes.
;)
Your sculpture is brilliant, needless to say, but the title of the video seems to be misleading.
This was the first horse sculpture I made..... but thank you
