I’m in central Texas, overnight temps have been 27 degrees, highs in the 40’s, low 50’s. I didn’t want to take a chance with our sulcata tortoise, Henry. He is 9 yrs old and roughly 55lbs. He loves his doghouse with his heat lamps which is kept inside a metal shed. He is free to roam a 18x24 foot enclosed grassy run. He is used to roaming freely and heads inside as soon as the sun sets. Last year we created a short run with his doghouse in our garage. However, this year it’s way to cold even with his heat lamps. He is currently living a life of luxury with his doghouse with heat lamps in my large master bathroom. His temp is running around 75-78. To say that Henry is completely spoiled is an understatement. 💗🐢 Appreciate your informative videos!

I live just north (4 miles) of the Bronx in NYC. I have two red foots and two cherry heads. I keep them in an 8X3 terrarium in the winter and in the summer I have a large patio surrounded by a 9-foot rock wall they cannot escape that they live on. They are going on three years old and very healthy. Love your videos. I learn much from you.

Fingers crossed for all during the cold snap. I’m in Canada, so it’s -18C right now with the wind chill and it’ll be -24C tonight. I have to keep animals inside, so I currently have a sand boa which stays smaller. I’ve had them before, but decided to go a more natural route this time. Soil/sand mix which is great for misting during the shed cycle and I opted for a DHP this time. She can go up higher to bask if she wants, but I put a dark piece of slate on that side which stays warm too. She also has a 7% UVB lamp that I’ve found improves the health of even crepuscular kids. ☺️
I had the same procedure done 2 times, I was fine afterwards and in my case, it slowed down my heart rate. I was not in any pain just tired so I rested. I had to pay neighbor kids to care for my chickens, the 2 Sultana tortoises I bought from you were no problem, they are both growing big and I love them.
Hi Kenan, we live in the Netherlands. We have some bigger aldabra’s 25-30kg. We keep then in a warmed shelter with 2 infrared panels. But during the day we see them in de greenhouse and it is only 35 degrees. They choose themselves to do this. We are also going to house oure lacemontitors outside in a greenhouse. The cuban inguana’s, redfoot and radiata’s are inside for the winter. They go outside when it is 45 degrees outside. I think it’s no problem. The blue treemonitors and spengleri we always keep inside. We love your program. Me and my son David always watch your channel! Good luck with your surgery! Here in the San Antonio area I can keep my tortoises outside most of the year. I have winter pens inside for the Pancakes, Burmese Star, and Radiated. The Radiated and Stars can stay out with overnights down to the 50’s. I put an infrared heat lamp out at one end of their hide to create an outside basking area in the morning and a gradient inside the hide at night. My Black Mountain tortoises stay out unless like this week the temps get to freezing or below. Otherwise they stay out and have a heated house they use. So far only snowpocalypse a few years ago caused any problems.
I’m in the pit of hell, aka south Fl and our low tonight is 48. I am so worried about ya’ll up there. Sending love. Have a full mostly empty house and yard (one dog) if anyone needs to kennel animals that can’t handle the north.
I think that you must mean Kenan's ability to anticipate the needs of his animals. And I agree ! He has to know their preferred temperatures, and if the want to stay submerged, and if they will feed at a given temperature......All because that is the way you know how to care for each species of reptiles !
Not sure if i can remember you doing it in the past and telling us, but you should try taking a temp of the bottom of that large rec pond to see just how warm it stays! Purely out of basic curiosity! I think it'd be super interesting to see what those turtles are staying down at. Given that they've lived like that for years without issues.
Everything you have said I have done and did that with my heart. I ended up getting a heart transplant! I did it alone no help or family support! I started with a heart murmur, then as I grew up and got older hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and then I went on a tangent jump and I started having Pulmonary Embolism! I was a Good Year Blimp! My kidneys was traumatized and quit working! I really thought it was my time!

On the UK ever since smoking was banned in pubs they all have a heat lamps like a garden spotlight that turns on when theres movement but these are orange heated versions smallsuare lights that could be used on alot of your enclosures and there basically portable just screw them on and plug them in you should deffinantly look into them there basically in every pubs smoking shelter here
All my box turtles are outside hibernating. (Alabama). Indoor reptiles have heat lamps. The rest of my critters are fur babies. I do bring my cats inside at night because it’s just too hard to keep the patio warm enough for them. FYI my electric bill was over 500 in the summer. I was so mad! You are probably doing good with it being 1000 for your whole place. (I’m in a 3000 sqft house).
I wonder if you can just get a large outdoor heading pad/mat for your turtles in case of emergencies? That way, if anyone is forgotten, there is an alternative way for them to stay warm at night.
I mean like, you just leave it sitting outside of the hut. Turn it on only on cold nights or if you are away from home and someone else is looking after the animals.
Im a fishkeeper the volume thing so true small tanks ponds etc are the worsyfor maintenance i hae thousands of litres in my living room thesmall 190 is more work than all the rest combined
i wonder how many people thought about the costs that it takes to do what you do. there was a channel i followed that took in foxes and it was not cheap. you only mentioned electricity. doesn't include maintenance costs, food, medicine, new enclosures.

Im in NC and we can get down in to the teens some night and I have 4 yellow belly turtles and 3 eastern box turtles that I bring inside every winter

I'm from Michigan and the temperature was 25 degrees today. I couldn't keep animals out in the cold. It would have to be in mid summer.
