Hearing that cracking made me flinch like all hell. I've made a large number of traditional and primitive bows over the years and that sound has always been foreboding.... I'm glad Hoyt looked after the chap

A prominent Utah archer and coach (that you know well) said he had the perfect set of Axia's for a barebow setup... clicker was factory installed at 27". LOL. I'm glad I went with the MK Zest's. Buttery smooth and not a flaw in the fit and finish.

Great video as always, Jake. But I want to bring a question that's been in my head for a while. Why is it so hard to find reviews of at least intermediate level risers (if not the low end of the spectrum). I understand that the money's probably on the latest and greatest stuffs, but I think most archers (not professional ones) will want to know more about the more budget friendly area of the sport. It'd be nice if you can talk about them more in your videos. For instance, I really enjoyed your video on the Sanlida risers. If I knew about that riser before I bought my first ILF risers (it's a WNS), I'd probably go with the Sanlida one. Because those who need your "advices" from the video will likely be more beginner and intermediate level archers, no?

i kinda still stand with my original impression when hoyt released this. It's an mk korea clone with an even higher pricetag. it'd be interesting to see someone compare it to the zest, mx or xcore.
Glad he's getting a replacement set but that should have never gotten through quality control in the first place.
Funny to see someone's joints crack more then mine.
Right now i'm eagerly awaiting a machx in the coming weeks wich i'm super stoked about.

Limbs don't just blow up, the limbs at the Olympic games had been shot a lot, probably some damage in traveling, uv and water exposure etc. They had been worn quite a bit. Your HOYT limbs won't blow up any time soon.

I think, to make it stronger they attached both wood in the front, this time, I’m sure this will be stronger than valos. I use 4lbs stronger limbs and crank them out so I don’t put too much stress on the limbs. I know I may need to sacrifice some speed, since they are 48lbs (46# 5 turns out 48# in my fingers) it won’t make much difference.

    Hello Jake,
Love and Appreciate your content, it’s really helpful for a Beginner archer like me….😊
Can I make you a request….!! If possible can you review a Indian Round Bow……it’s basically a Basic wooden recurve bow( and when I say it’s basic I mean it’s very, very, very basic from the one that you always show in your videos).
That’s the bow we get when we start archery here in India.
I know this comment is getting long and boring but I just really wanted you to ask…… Approx. how long can we expect for one to start from scratch and to finally complete in Olympics🙂( just Curious)☺️
    Love from India 🇮🇳 ❤

Jake, great review and thanks for pointing these out. I just got a set of these; really like XD riser but I have concerns about the limbs. I do hear some cracking noise when initially stringing the bow. Next, when both tiller bolts are set at the same (theoretically neutral tiller), I have -0.25" tiller when I put on the Axia limbs. I wonder if the Axia are "tillered" by design, but if it is, the negative value is incorrect. I suspect they have mislabeled the limbs, in that case, this is not good QC. Have you noticed this as well?

    • @martinottosson6583
      @martinottosson6583 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Sometimes it is enough to put some string wax on the contact points between the limbs and the riser. That often solves cracking noises. If it does, it’s not a laminate issue. If it doesn’t, you might have a serious problem.
Limb pairs are individual. Sometimes you get a good pair and sometimes you get a not fully as good. With Hoyt you always needed quite a bit of luck to get a perfect pair. I don’t know it that changed with the last generations of limbs however, but no manufacturer have a perfect record when it comes to limb quality from pair to pair.

I bought a new pair of Formula Carbon Integras last year. The top limb was so twisted it was scary when you drew it back. Replaced by Hoyt distributor but should never have left the factory. They don't seem to do basic quality control on the items sold to the public. I presume items sent to the pros are checked more carefully. If their return rate remains high they might start spending money on QC.

Hi Jake, thank you so much for this and all of your other brilliant videos! I have a pair of Axia limbs and they have been making crackling/cracking sounds like the ones you pointed out. I wasn't sure whether that was a red flag until now. On further inspection, I don't see any visible separations in the limbs themselves, but I have concluded that the limb tips are uneven and that I have the same type of twisted limb (I was wondering why they were so tricky to align compared to my Velos). I am definitely reaching out to Hoyt about this. Thanks again!
P.S. the limb bolts you designed seem fantastic and the clock markings are a game changer!

Hi Jake..I love watching your videos and always look forward for more. I started archery at age 27 in 1990 and I immediately bought my Cherry Red Hoyt TD4 with 40lbs Carbon+ limbs. It was awesome. Last year I decided to give it a break and bought a Victory Red Xceed with 36lbs Velos limbs (matt finish), ..yes I went down in poundage due to age. I immediately didn't fall in love with the grips provided (one black the other white, same shape)..I found that they felt too narrow even though I am a small person with relatively small hands. Tried to beef them up using that tape wrap used for tennis rackets but I hated them even more. Saw one of your videos and decided to invest in one of your lower pivot point grips done by RCore. It felt good, my groups got tighter and was super happy. I shoot about 4 times a week, maybe averaging some 80 arrows every time, nothing more. Then I noticed a crack in the 3D printed RCore grip. Crack started from the front end towards the screw hole. I said OK, the screw hole will serve as a stress relieving hole, but no, the crack crept further back. It was about to split in half. I was afraid it might hurt me so I removed it. May I point out that I never overtighten the screws or leave them loose. I wrote an email to RCore but got no answer. My friend pointed out that, reading between the lines, RCore only give a 30 day warranty (ppfff, even carrots last longer) and hence the reason why they didn't answer my email, I think. VERY DISAPPOINTED with RCore, and those grips are not cheap. Now I'm using a grip which the same friend 3D printed for me, very similar to that grip...and I'm back in business.

Hey! Someday could you make a comparison in tuning and shooting at 70m, same bow, same spine arrows, BUT different weight in the point of the arrow, varying from 120, 110 and 100 and also comparing tungsten vs steel points. I’d like to see how those changes impact the tuning, the flight of the arrow and if it makes a difference in grouping or accuracy, of course to see which one is the best setup. Don’t know if you already have something on that.

Too bad Hoyt went with a Cerakote finish, it's cutting corners. I own a CD Archery riser with Cerakote finish. Although i love it, the durability of the finish is less then stellar compared to anodising or powder coat. The Axia limbs came with several flaws, really? They're more than 1k € here in Germany. With this narrow string grove they better are dead straight! A lot of cutting corners and quality issues for this expensive equipment. I went away from Hoyt years ago due to constant quality issues. Seems like nothing has changed. Recent update: a friend just bought a Hoyt satori riser and couldn't fit his arrow rest. Because the thread wasn't cut properly. A lot of OR archers seem to stick with 70", even if they are pushing the envelope of draw length, to keep the power efficiency of the smaller bow. I have a 32" draw, and I shoot a 72" bow (27" riser + long limbs). I notice the power difference from a 70" bow for sure. It's not a problem for me, because I am only shooting 50 meters max now (have switched to barebow from OR), but it might be an issue for an OR archer looking to hit 70 meters.

But who knows what's going on there, the limbs certainly don't sound good. It can certainly be tested, put some grease on the knock grooves and see if the sound goes away. Thanks for the video, great channel I have learned a lot here about technique.
