I've heard many good things about Austria as a country. As an outdoorsy type, I can certainly see myself living in a nice mountain village somewhere!
You should visit Vorarlberg (Western Austria). U gonna love it there. Either its for skiing during winter / hiking during summer , just go to Bregenzerwald for it 😉

As a viennese citizen I travelled almost all over the world when I was younger. During Coivid I bought a caravan and started discovering my country Austria with it. Best choice ever. You simply never can get enough of crystal clear lakes with drinking quality, castles with endless history and battles behind them, beautiful mountains with the best ski slopes in the entire world with Austrian made, safest cable cars on the planet. You find a good Restaurant no matter where you are, even on top of almost every larger mountain. Getting around is super easy and convenient - car, train or bus - all three of them will bring you even to the most remote places. What I personally think is unmatched, is how CLEAN it is. I've only figured this out after being to many other places. Almost EVERY rural town looks like a painting... People always talk about the beauty of Hallstadt, which has been COPIED somewhere in China. The truth is: eventhough its considered the most beautiful town on the planet: this is just an ordinary place in Austria! 😊
I feel so sorry for the people of Hallstadt- Chinese tourists with selfie sticks are ruining it.
I lived in Vienna and live still in Graz and I would never ever wanted to live somewhere else. Life is great.

@@Katzenkaiser4 Compared to other places more in Western Europe, it can feel very conservative and slow paced, and not very exciting! I've realised that Vienna offers more of a sort of holistic, classic beauty rather than quick fun!

The temperature range you gave for the climate seems a bit narrow. In Vienna -8 seems realistic as the lower end but the upper end would be like 38. For the alps 27 as the upper end seems realistic but winters can definitely drop well below -8 in some regions and also used to in Vienna before climate change really started kicking in. For such a small country the geography separates it into so many micro climates it's hard to sum up in one temperature range. Definitely don't move to Vienna if you can't handle humid heat dancing a waltz with thunderstorms. An acquaintance from Tunisia recently told me 35 C° in Vienna feels like 50 in north Africa. Vienna's climate is particularly unpredictable since it sits in a basin right where some of the larger european climate zones meet. If you really want to experience all seasons come in April and you might get them all in a single week.

I think it depends from which perspective you see that. I did not enjoy my time as a teenager in Vienna so I went out and used to live in Germany - which was okay but it was the trampoline to Asia for me which I enjoyed even more.
i always dream to moving to Austria since i live 10km from the border, we always go shoping to Austria since its cheaper and better quality and people live much better.

I live in Vorarlberg (Western Austria), and i dont think the living cost in Germany is higher than in Austria. What i noticed is that for eg a bag of lemons costs 60-70 cents in Germany, whereas in Austria is around €1. Thats why some Austrians tend to do groceries in Germany (Lindau) coz its cheaper there. Other than that, in Austria we get 14x salary per year, whereas in Germany normally they get only 12x per year, and moreover, we do have a lot of German people working in Austria, since they (my friends) said that they get more money here in Austria than in Germany beside the better quality of living.
Probably higher costs of living in Germany comes mostly from rental prices and that there are many more expensive to live cities eg. Münich, Stuttgart, Hamburg.

yeah, I grew up in Germany and been living in Austria for 6 years, and I think with the living cost: that exactly only goes for Vienna ( which is very unique for a big city with the housing situation) and Graz and a lot of the eastern area, but the rest is insanely expensive 😂 also, I don't think that considers costs like groceries at all. Furthermore Germany just has more big cities and those are of course always more expensive.

what I don't like is people who live in nice districts completely dismissing the experience of people who live in poorer districts. This is the case for all cities around the world.

That's insane! I live in the heart of Vienna, one hour drive brings me to our house in the countryside - in the middle of a forest with no neighbours in sight in the entire valley!

Many companies do have no problem hiring English speakers, but you will not be able to skip learning German and the local dialect.

Unsure I’ve lived in Innsbruck for the last 4 years and only visited Graz once. It’s a nice city low crime it seems. Expensive like many parts of Europe too.

After the corruption of the conservative party a well needed change. They are not going to change Graz into a Gulag. By the way, the election was purely decided on the personality of the party figureheads running for election. On any other election, like state or federal the communist party never gets more than a few percent.
For Austria Graz has a very nice clima, not much snow, less rain and warm temperatures, and not that wind all the time like in Vienna. It is big enough to have everything you need in a city, but small enough to get around easily even by bike.

I lived in Fürth just outside Zel am See for three years. I absolutely ❤ Austria and its culture. I’m sad that the EU seeks to homogenize it by allowing a certain non compatible religiously identifiable group in… Sebastian Kurtz had the right attitude.

Germans always like to say that, which i assume is because the information flow is quite one sided. Austrians know a lot more about Germany than germans to about Austria, simply because germany is so much bigger. Germans just assume that since Austrians speak the same language it's the same culture, but that's not really the truth.
Of course there's overlap, but that overlap tends to end somewhat close behind the border already. Similarities exist with Bavaria, though not even all of Bavaria because it's made up of three parts basically. "Bavaria proper", Franconia and Swabia and similarities for the most part only exist with Bavaria proper. Especially Upper Austria is quite similar to Bavaria since there's no geography that seperates them.
But in the end "Bavaria proper" is only a small part of a country that is much bigger, has a lot more to offer and is not really similar to Austria. Czechia and Slovenia are actually quite a bit more similar to Austria than germany is. The people, their mentality, their behaviour is way more similar than the germans who tend to live by the rules and are quite straight forward - which are qualities rarely found among Austrians.
It's more like USA vs. UK. Two countries separated by a common language, as Eddie Izzard once said.

@Cloud Citizen it depends on what you are doing. But in most of the cases knowing some German is very helpful. For instance Fastfood Chains (McDonalds, Burger King) only require a basic level of German.

Finnish is very similar to English. German is also similar. But Finnish shares a lot of the same words as english. So it’ll probably be easier to learn Finnish.

I live in austria, tyrol and i hate it.. EVERYTHING is full of tourists, the infrastructure cant handle the amound of people and Transit, the wages are the lowest with the highest prices of living (again because of tourism). Buying a house isnt possible if you havent inherit something the only good Thing is the view...
Hard agree. As a Tyrolean myself I love our nature and even our culture, that it's normal for us to go hiking or climbing in the warmer months and skiing in the colder months - but unfortunately it's very much being ruined by tourism.
Must be nice living in Vienna with high wages and low cost of living, like the video said, but that doesn't extend to all of Austria and is pretty much inverted in Tyrol, like you said.

@@Ndujlz I do, yes. Though not the german you're going to encounter in Vienna. In Vienna the vast majority speaks standard german, which is not mutually intelligible to what I speak.

If you don't speak Deutsch, and if you don't have already a job position, it's a no go.
A country who has 12hour work legal (that means 14hours a day away from home, it's not socially thinking country. Plus there is no control in workspaces such as gastronomy, where people, especially foreigners are being exploited big time.
No middle class in Austria. You have the very rich people eating in expensive restaurants and the very very poor, unemployed and homeless.
Talking about rent? If you don't speak Deutsch the difficulty of finding a good deal is way higher, plus if you have no job yet, most of the house marklers will not rent you an apartment.

Yes, getting around without speaking German is not that easy. Only few jobs would be possible. Renting is not that easy because you would need to understand the contracts in German.
There are controls in the gastronomy and you can go to the Arbeiterkammer to check your hours. For most jobs 12hours is a maximum under special occasions and only rarely. Otherwise there are strict rules of max. 10h a day and a limited time over a month.
There is a wide middle class. Homeless rate is at 0,25%.

In gastronomy there IS ABSOLUTELY No control. I ve been working 60h a week the first two years in Austria. They used us because we didn't speak the language. Arbeiterkammer to report anything you must speak Deutsch. So for foreigners it's a closed door. Just for the eyes of the people.
Don't try to save it, Austria for me is a NO GO unless you are a criminal and want to spent/hide your money. Amerikanized and capitalised
@@kingsmusik45 Gastronomy and working times is a problem even for Austrians. But it comes back to the language. If you can't speak the language of the country you have a problem. And that is valid for nearly every country.
If you can speak at least some German you can get a job. We have several colleagues from different countries from south eastern Europe, who are happy here and one even bought an appartement. The wife of a good friend is Romanian and worked here before they met. Four of my neighbours possess their houses and are from the former Yougoslavia.
So you can't generalize. If you can speak a bit of German you can find a correct job. If you have some better education which is searched for it is not difficult to work here. We even search in Slovenia for staff.
Without language skills and education and without somebody helping you or enough money to turn a job down, you might land in such a position as you described.
It seems that you have only seen a very limited aspect of the country.

As an Austrian, there is a bunch things wrong with the information given in this video. The lower cost of living than Germany especially, which is simply wrong. It should be said as well, that Austrians are one of the most unfriendly people in the world. I am from Salzburg, beautiful city, but it is hard to meet more unfriendly people. The cities are generally foreigner friendly, but the experience in the countryside can be very different. I grew up in the Salzburg/ Upper Austria counrtyside and a lot of old and less educated people are still racist, af there. (Especially if you are black or muslim) Citizenship is a very important point as well, it is really hard to get. Politics are getting less foreigner friendly too. (FPÖ and ÖVP) So please do your research before moving here, there a lot of better countries to move to, if you are not fixed on the Austrian culture. Would love to see you here though.
