Even though it was a year ago my dream was to go to Japan since I was in 5th grade I’m a freshman in high school and now that I realize the years is going by so fast and I can’t wait to go but it’s the fact my my parents have mixed feelings but I know going will also help my mental health as I am on a mission to find peace and independence ❤️

Hi I am Geoffrey and this video has been really inspirational to me. I first found your channel when I looked up Doshisha University because I am studying abroad next spring (spring 2022). I am looking forward to it and hope things go smooth from here on. Thank you very much for this video!

@@tjfletch7629 Hello! Are you talking about the housing options for exchange students/international students studying at Doshisha University? If so, since I am doing the program with my school, they simply gave me options to choose from and I selected one that is the closest haha. My first option was Dorm Kamogawa and second was Maison Iwakuni. Hope it helps! Also, if you don't mind, we could chat on discord or any social media you use!

Praying Tanaka will drop the third person for you because Praying Tanaka is deeply moved
After writing this: dang I really did myself a whole therapy session in a youtube comments section, but go off I guess
I'm literally on the verge of tears- I am 18 right now, going to turn 19 in a month, and when I reflect on this past year and a half, I feel like I haven't done much at all. I graduated with a High School diploma and AA degree from a public high school in NYC, and stayed in the city for college to not financially burden my parents during Covid. Over the winter, I went on my first international trip without family, to go visit a friend for a week. I got accepted into the engineering school am chasing Mechanical Engineering, and it's so hard but I'm doing well so far. I visited my family for the first time since the pandemic and spend my whole summer in Europe with them (I'm Polish). I broke my arm though and well... life. I started my second year of college, and am taking challenging courses and as of now managing well. However, I felt that depression, that darkness, and that laziness creep in this past time from a lack of spark. And watching this video and you smile about life and its experiences made me realize that I have lost some of that inspiration myself. I feel like I really need to take a moment and think, what are my dreams, my aspirations? What is it that I truly want out of life?
I want to travel to all kinds of places and see the world. I know that for a fact. I want to have a boat and sail around the world, be that free spirit. I want to learn to fly a plane. I want to launch rockets into space in the means of curiosity. I want to participate in groundbreaking research.
How will I do all of that though?
One of the places I've always wanted to see was Japan. And in my little bubble there was always some sort of connection with Japanese culture, like the Japanese market I went to since I was a kid or the kind waitress at the sushi restaurant my parents would take me to teaching little me phrases in Japanese. Then the anime I watched, the food I learned to cook from my friend who grew up there, the china collected by a parent's friend, the tea I drank, the kindness of the people I interacted with...
I guess that is what really brought me to a place to know that I wanted to experience Japan more than a visiting trip, I genuinely wanted to live there and immerse myself. And because at 18 and a full-time student who is lucky enough to still be able to rely on my parents for financial support, the path that has seemed to open up to me has been study abroad.
If I study abroad, I can take that first step. No matter how scary or how unfamiliar or uncomfortable, I have to keep reminding myself that life isn't just a thoughtless loop of hours by your computer doing homework or staying inside unfocused and unproductive, but so full of many different wonders that we ourselves have to actively make the choice to experience. I have to remind myself of who I am and my origin, of that little girl from a family of immigrants that gets super excited my all things music and science, that loves nature very much and that tries to analyze anything that flies in hopes of growing wings of her own.
Thank you for reminding me of that, of reminding me to aspire and dream and to live that life and to not waste the moment.

thank you so so so much for posting this. besides the great and original editing, this was truly super motivating. it is nice to see someone who did the same thing i want to do now, and didn’t regret it. i’m almost 18, and in a year, i wanna move to tokyo by myself. i’m preparing the money and student visa and all that, but it’s still scary, because i haven’t told my parents yet, and i haven’t ever travelled alone.
will i regret it? is it not worth it? should i just be obedient and listen to my parents? but then again, i’m the same as you. i wanna pave my own path.
it was so nice of you to remind me that the first step will always be the hardest. it’ll take courage, and i’ll probably have homesickness, but i’m gonna do it, and cherish the moments. i’m planning on doing a language school and then finishing uni there.
your video motivated me so much. thank you for sharing your experience

This is what I want to do.. but I'm scared. I'm scared that I'll never be able to learn Japanese even if I move to Japan.. I'm scared that I won't know what job I want to pursue even after I've completed highschool.. And I'm scared that I'll never even graduate highschool and live in debt for the rest of my life. Haha.. whenever I tell anyone this they just say "don't worry about that you're only 14".. I know.. but to move to Japan is my dream, and honestly, I'm just really scared for my future ☹️

I went to study abroad in Spain until I was a senior in university (I regret not doing it sooner) and it was awesome! Now that I graduated I realize it's more difficult finding programs for adults. Schools do tend to help you out a lot, so if you can, totally go for it! Just be safe; best of luck!

my very first job in Japan was to teach English! I taught kids / adults English! i know a ton of international students start off as an English teacher bc you don't have to be able to speak Japanese most of the time haha
there's def lots of different places to work in japan even if you don't speak japanese too well (especially the tourism industry / hotel industry always has a demand for english speakers)
