I'm Singaporean and travel to batam almost every month. If you revisiting batam again, (1)nagoya Foodcourt is a must to visit, (2)batam rice must try its nasi padang, (3) mitra wet market, (4) harbour bay night life, (5)eleven up coffee and floating bar very beautiful water floating bar. There's lot of street food, and street soccer around the street

Hey Nick, am pretty sure the Martabak HAR you visited in Batam has no direct connection to those in Palembang. They're probably just re-using the same familiar name. I was born and grew up in Palembang and those Martabak HAR shops have been there for decades. HAR stands for Haji Abdul Rozak, the guy who started it, supposedly in 1947. The most common dish is the egg martabak and as you discovered in Palembang, not all shops offer the roti canai that you like.

Joseph is biblical name, Yusuf is quranic name, Joseph and Yusuf refer to same prophet. Same applies to Samuel / Ismail, Aaron / Harun, Moses / Musa, Abraham / Ibrahim, Mary / Maryam, Rebecca / Ribka, David / Daud, Jones / Yunus, etc. These are a very common names in Indonesia, either someone is a christian or a muslim, they use those names, however a christian more of using the “internationally known” version of those names, like Moses or Samuel, and a muslim refers to how it is pronounced in Arabic, like Musa or Ismail.

Wahhh...roti prata. My favourite. I would order 5 pcs when eating at the restaurant and 10 pcs when consume at home. Right next to that restaurant is a music instrument shop. I believe they have 3 levels and filled with various musical equipment. When you exit the restaurant, on the right, just a few distance, is the Go Massage. On the left further down is the Planet Hollywood Hotel. I stayed there during my Batam trip. Enjoy your stay there Nick....cheers.

Still my fave in town, loves the curry there it’s very kicking. I tried the curry in East Coast SG it was really tends to sweet. Out of my expectation🥲

That Martabak HAR just really close to Kampung Bule where the local bars there, it’s behind the McD. The best Indian curry ever tried in Batam is in Maharaja Curry in Palm Spring housing complex. If we meet I will take you to the best foodies spot in Batam lol

Martabak HAR is stand for Haji Abdul Rasyid; In Batam they said Haji Abdul Rozak. But I like Martabak HAR Batam.
