For this weeping tile installation we used non perforated pipe. If you're using perforated pipe ensure the protective sock is intact. The geotextile fabric will play a key role in screening clay and debris that would otherwise enter the pipe and create a clog overtime. I made a valiant (failed!) attempt at digging our trench using muscle power and standard trenching shovel, but if you've got a long distance to cover or are dealing with hard packed clay and rocks like we were I recommend renting a power trencher.
