Sebring, Le Mans, Targa Florio and Nürburgring ... the sonority of those names alone takes you on a fascinating journey .. the exhaust notes bringing you right back to the respective course and time . we are endlessly rich having access to all that 🌷:)
    Thankyou for posting.

Unbelievable footage of the 1964 Sebring 12 Hours of Endurance. Simply fantastic! At 10:41 I think we see a very young (and very excited) Mauro Forgieri who appears to be reaming out John Surtees in the Ferrari pits. Wow!

That orange 904 going through tech belonged to one of my SCCA sponsors, Jack Ryan who owned RBM Motors in Atlanta.

Thank you for the input. What did RBM stand for ? I grew up in Buckhead and loved going to their showroom. And what did you race ? I raced formula cars in the 70's.

i heard the rumor that they didn't get permission to "borrow" the halfshaft from the donor vette.
edit* where is the footage of the start? i also remember the #2 foyt car boiling the brake fluid at the end of the warehouse straight on the first lap.

Shoen sells a reprint of his book. Go to his website. It's worth it.

    My first 12 Hours!
I got to talk to Sir John while they were replacing his 330P's RR Lower A arm...
I had observed him dropping that wheel off into the sand on exit from The Websters
with my WWII Navy B&L 7x50s... sparks flying.....
I had passed THAT observation along to the elder Ferrari mechanic, who had me stick around
as they were bringing Surtees in next time by.....
    A 15 minute repair job...
    John drove possessed after THAT!
    Getting up to 3rd...
    Cobras finally beat the GTO....
    I was only 14 going on 15...
But was treated as a ADULT!
    A everyone else did...
    My last was 1972...
    The 312PB's
Jo Bonnier got my observations that year
I was with Florida Racing News, out of Miami....
    Tech Editor....
'73 Daytona 24 was our LAST!
    Thanks to the Arabs....
I did not care for IMSA trash....
    I loved the sports protos....

So, someone did take into account you
observing the cars along the roadcourse !
That's a clever and wise behaviour, listening
with no prejudice to a young enthusiast.
      Great memories :)

@375GTB Sports Car endurance racing in the 1970s kinda lost me when modified production cars replaced the prototypes in the races.
I recently read about how that came about; I can't recall the details of it because whomever wrote about it made it sound very complicated.

Typical devious Ferrari manipulation in the pits to decide what drivers should win.
