Awesome! It's a who's who of the very best in the latin dancesport world. The bar was set very high this night. It was difficult to decide who was better. Each couple bought their A-game and left nothing to chance. I am sure each one of them was proud of what he or she accomplished. I could tell it was a very physically and mentally demanding night. My best to each of them.
If you want to go into the history, you might consult Pierre Lavelle's biography. When he first went to Cuba to learn how to 'interpret' (some would say mutilate) the Cha Cha he was told - 'You can't follow the rhythm', and this was one of the finest ballroom dance teachers in the world at the time.
Let me tell you, why it is a samba... The brazilian samba is very, very different if you look the ballroom samba. Do you actually see any brazilian dancer here?! No! There are only European people, there aren`t even USA or Australian couples. So, can you understand now, how different is the style of the dancing. The ballroom samba is very modern dance, very changed. The original samba is the brazilian, but this here, I can say that: "The ballroom samba" is another kind of dance.
Let's try and find some common ground here. Do you agree that the music is samba? Or atleast the rhythm of this song? If yes, then the rest is nothing to argue or debate about. Different people interpret music differently and move accordingly. There is no said way of dancing a step (even in ballroom dancing there are different interpretations of the same step). So the samba here refers to the rhythm or music that they are dancing to. Let's just enjoy the performance, cheers!
@AceyBlade My education is fine, thanks. :D Sorry about the 'idiots' part, but the Samba that we dance here is totaly different. I didnt know that category "latin dancesport samba" its very strange. A misture of zouk, chachacha, salsa... But not samba. (Oo). Our samba is so much better. :D That's all I can tell you. \o\ /o/ \o\ Buuuut, um viva para as diferenças culturais! Merry Christmas! _o/
It's a who's who of the musically deaf. It's requirement of success at Dancesport that you go for surgery to have the bits of your brain that understand 'syncopation' and 'polyrhtythm' removed. It's difficult to decide who is worse. All true latin dances are syncopated = ie off beat. All Dancesport dancers are required to be 'on beat'. Notice a small conflict here?
The Fools are the people who thin Ballroom 'Samba' 'Cha Cha' 'Argentine Tango' and 'Rhumba' have any relationship with real Samba, Cha Cha, Argentine Tango and Salsa. . . . . .. . The ballroom version of any dance is an athletic performance designed to remove any artistry or musical creativity.
What these people are doing is completely disconnected from music. This is not dance. its gymnastics to a beat. This is like a competion to find the most musically deaf dancers in the world
Absolutely dead on. IDSF is a competion to prove how musically deaf you are :-) Only those with no improvisational or creative skills need apply. If you can't see how BAD this is in terms of musical interpretation - ask a Brazilian why they laugh at IDSF 'Samba'
No, they are the stupidest. They are dancing on beat to music that is off beat. To be an effective and successful Dancsport dancer you have to always be on beat. All genuine latin music is syncopated - off beat. The technique is indeed a dream - it has absolutledly nothing, zero, zilch, to do with the music. What we are watching is deaf people doing gymnastics
i hate danish style in dancesport, there style of interpreting the dance and there costumes, they bore me and have no unique qualities to bring to the dance floor.
Still one of my favorite comps and sambas to this day!
