Ran in to that many times over the years. Have ran into the ground terminal metal piece missing also. I think I still have some in my tool box just for that reason... LOL
Update, I received my DUI distributor and it was the same as this one. There was paint on the surface where the ground strap and ring terminal mounted against the core and the heat shrink was slid too far down on the ground ring terminal. I scrapped the paint off on the core in those two areas and used a razor to remove the excess heat shrink off the ring terminal and reassembled it. The core seemed like it was painted instead of powdercoated because the coating scrapped off super easy. I verified with a multimeter there was no continuity before I scrapped the paint off but there was continuity after. Now under load it may have been able to ground through the coating but definitely not ideal and I would have probably ran into this same no spark condition eventually if I hadn't addressed it before installing the distributor.

Excellent video. I just ordered a new distributor from DUI/Performance and if I have issues, I'll check for this.
Good find! I just ordered one of these distributors for my 67 Firebird and will definitely check that before I install it.

I've never seen a coil with paint on it, who ever did that needs to find another hobby.
