Virginia Tech needs to play with a chip on their shoulders from here on out because that’s when they will succeed. They never play well when people are high on them. They need to develop attitude and keep it.
This year “should/should’ve” been the year with all the returning starters….pry and the other coaches in their 3rd year….. but nope. Still 11 more games but next year could have a harder schedule and a lot of younger players…. If we don’t make an impact this year it certainly won’t be next

They actually don’t, if we’re being honest here. Defense has a lot of talent, idk what the hell that was we saw. Offensively…OC is to blame for that monstrosity. You have one of the best RBs in the game, know how VT works…run the ball, but Bayshul Tuten only has 2 touches in the first half. Not to mention 1 was a TD. You go into the 2nd half and still don’t use the dude, when you do he scores again. You are in the red zone and instead of going for the TD you play it safe, with flats? Instead of putting Pop Watson in and let him do his playmaker shit, they put in the transfer from UCLA… and he throws the dumbest ball in OT. 90% of the plays were literally, “why the hell would you call that”?

When it does occur, usually a good (not great) team comes to Nashville thinking they're just going to roll, and then get caught off guard by the 11:00 AM CT kickoff, and the weirdly low energy environment at Vandy games. In this case, you also had heat, and nearly an entirely new Vanderbilt roster too. Anyway- it happens- but not the end of Virginia Tech football- or even this season (particularly if VA Tech plays well the rest of the way- and Vandy ends up being respectable- which they may be with all that roster turnover).

I'm a VT alum, very disappointed with the outcome of the game but I also recognize some of our best seasons have started out this way. 2007 opening up with a loss to ECU at home then going on to finish 10-4 with an ACC title, 2010 opening up with a loss to FCS James Madison then going on to finish 11-3 also with an ACC title. This year's team has all the pieces, just needed to be humbled in my opinion. If they play a crappy game or God forbid lose to Marshall, then we can call it quits on the season.

It's hard to make the jump from mediocre to good in college football. Question size of Va tech lines, better teams pushed them around last year, was unable to push smaller, Vany lines. You can bring players back , but what did you bring back? games are 80% of time won in trenches

Play calling was terrible and unable to run the ball. Pry is a great guy but dropped the ball between the terrible play calling and double jersey penalty. He’s not capable of leading a contender if he can’t be locked in for a game of this caliber.

People have been clowning on me all over Twitter and other TH-cam videos all off-season because I was saying that the Virginia Tech hype train was one I was not boarding. I thought they were overrated and I thought that their winning streak last season was because their schedule was incredibly soft. People were acting like the bowl game against Tulane for Virginia Tech was a bowl game against a top 10 Big Ten opponent or something. Also there was no way that Vanderbilt was not going to give 300% for this game… It was a nationally televised game on ESPN over a team that most reasonably thinking college football fans knew was over hiked. They wanted to make a statement.
It doesn't mean Virginia Tech isn't a good team. It's clear to me that VT went into the game thinking it was going to be a layup win. You're absolutely right in saying Vanderbilt had far more to play for in this game. It's also clear that the reason Vanderbilt won, or had any chance for that matter, is they were far better prepared. I'm not exactly sure how Tech was supposed to prepare for a team that brought in an entirely new scheme and 51 new players with little to no film on any of them. Pry said post game that Vanderbilt brought a scheme they simply were not prepared for. Couple that with a road game in Nashville heat and humidity and of course you have the recipe for an upset. The loss was entirely on the VT coaching and conditioning staff. They need to take a huge step up to bring this roster to where they're capable-- which is an ACC title. There are anywhere between 8-12 NFL caliber players on the VT roster, no excuse to not win this game or compete for a conference title.

We didn't use any of the depth on OL. We also didn't play one of our best LBs from last year. I think the issue is the coaching decisions.

Last season was 7-6 and Bowl winners. By the definition of losing, thats not losing.
