Thanks for your helpful video Philip - after you mentioned your book, I borrowed it thru my university - only part way thru it but I'm thoroughly enjoying it and it is helping me make sense of the various contributors to phenomenology rather than the 'bowl of spaghetti' that my study notes had become! Thanks very much
You're very welcome! I'm so glad to hear that you're finding the book helpful and that it's bringing clarity to your understanding of phenomenology. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, and I wish you the best with your study.
I did a phenomenology study and the participants provided variations about their experiences and the analysis was great. Thanks for this video.... #stillearning
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It’s wonderful to hear that your phenomenological study brought out such rich variations in participant experiences. Phenomenology is such a powerful approach for capturing the depth and nuance of lived experiences. Keep up the great work, and I’m glad the video was helpful to you. #KeepLearning
Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback! I'm thrilled to hear that the lecture helped clarify the concepts in your study. It's always rewarding to know my work is making a difference. Wishing you continued success in your research journey!
Thank you Dr.Adu❤ for the simple but detailed explanation regarding these two approaches. It can be confusing sometimes 😔 especially the psychological aspect of Transcendental phenomenology. I have your books and it's really helping me to get a better understanding. I know I will get there 😊 I would like to know if it's okay to use both the interview and focus group for transcendental phenomenology (TP) study? Again, what's the specific data analysis strategy for TP as you mentioned thematic for interpretive? I would like to have a consultation with you Thank you.
You're welcome Cynthia! Thank you for watching my video and buying out book. Yes, you could collect both interview and focus group data under TP. The most important is to give participants the change to describe their experience. The key focus of TP is to capture what participants have experience which are descriptive narratives of their experience. Therefore, the appropriate data analysis strategy is description-focused coding. Thank you for your interest in my consultation service. You can email be through: info@drphilipadu.com
Thanks so much for such an insightful lecturer, Dr. I was wondering if it is possible to use both transcendental and interpretive approaches in one single study if the different aims of your research suggest both description and meaning making.
Dr. Adu, great lecture. Studying Black male Elementary principals, And their work/experience with black male elementary students, which type of phenomenological study would you recommend? I was thinking TP but I don’t know if it would be useful since I don’t want triangulation with other genders. I want to understand the black male experience with black male students.
Hello Dr. Adu, I really enjoyed this lecture! I definitely am looking at these methods for my dissertation. My research is on organizational culture and the effects of a multigenerational workforce. Any suggestions on the type of method I can use?
If I use IPA what am I supposed to put in my literature review section? If I'm not using pre-existing beliefs I don't understand what I need to put here. Thanks
You can still conduct literature review irrespective of the qualitative approach one chooses. When using IPA, you could practice bracketing - which involves setting aside your beliefs, preconceptions and expectations.

You're welcome! You could but it will be challenging since they are informed by different methodological assumptions. So, I suggest you choose one.

Thank you!! If you plan to understand their experience then it is more of a phenomenological approach informed by interpretative phenomenology.

@@drphilipadu do you have availability to counsel sometime in the fall?
@@Tbond090 Yes, when you are ready, you can email me: info@drphilipadu.com
Good Job.
What is the difference between the Transcendental and Descriptive phenomenological approach?
They are the same. They all focus on describing the unique lived experience of participants and analyzing it to attain the essence of the experience.
Hello again Dr Adu,
I would like to make an appointment for a consultation.
How is September for availability?
Thank you
Marina Yacoe
I’m available this September. Here is my email: info@drphilipadu.com

Can one use a combined approach?
You could combine but we normally choose one that aligns more to the purpose of your study.
Thanks
You're welcome!!
I am interested in a consultation.
Thank you Marina for your interest! I'm available for consultation.
