The hacking seconds is more modern thing.
Those Breguets are based on a movement from the seventies (and the same goes about Patek). More modern movement in the Breguet range is hacking (like the 5177) clearly, due to public demand.

The reason I like hacking is so I can watch the second hands of my whole collection turn in unison. It's also useful if you're an RAF bomber group leader, so your pilots can synchronize their watches before a bombing run on Berlin.
