  • The recent visit to the Philippines, by two ships of the Indo-Pacific Endeavour Task Group has significantly reinforced the strong defence relationship between Australia and the Philippines.
The Task Group later sailed to Subic Bay for a four day visit, where both ships received over several hundred visitors eager to view the new capabilities the Australian Defence Force had on offer. To demonstrate the capability of the Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) to support regional responses to Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR) events, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) conducted a combined HADR training exercise in Subic Bay. The HADR training activity involved 80 PMC personnel plus their vehicles that embarked HMAS Adelaide in Subic Bay and were deployed ashore by ADF Landing Craft and PMC Riverine Craft. Despite demanding weather conditions due to Typhoon Khanun to the East of the Philippines, the combined ADF and PMC HADR response force was able to rapidly deploy ashore.
An Australian Defence Group (ADF) Joint Task Group, Indo-Pacific Endeavour 2017, is participating in a series of key military exercises throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Running from September to November, Indo-Pacific Endeavour will focus on enhancing military cooperation with some of Australia’s key regional partners including Indonesia, Japan, India, Malaysia, Singapore, the Republic of Korea, the Philippines, Brunei, Timor-Leste, Thailand, Cambodia and the Federated States of Micronesia.
HMAS Adelaide will be accompanied at various stages of the deployment by HMAS Melbourne, HMAS Darwin, HMAS Toowoomba, HMAS Parramatta, and HMAS Sirius, making it the biggest coordinated task group deployment in many decades. Indo-Pacific Endeavour will also involve service personnel from the Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Group and include Defence civilians, ADF helicopters, and fixed wing aircraft.

ADF need 15 amphibious vessel with spiffy F-35B deck decks on them have three F-35B each amphibious vessel that way we could encapsulate the Philippines as a protective barrier for the Philippines

If we could take the equivalent of the thistle knights to the Philippines we could set up 15 hospital there fast with 15 battalion each battalion in a amphibious vessel, the only way to stop a bad guy with a Thistle knights is to have a good guy with a Thistle knights.

To take the Thistle star that a star of the five star general it represents a three regiment force each regiment containing 5,000, an that's the professional bench mark to leave a lasting impression like a star of the 5 star general, to me to be democratic with casualties elasticity of 2 in 5 for the better than average chance of living you need five lieutenant general, an that's 15 major generals an the major general class is what the thistle knights are

Because we need 15 major generals I believe each of them need a Outpost fortress off the coast with a battalion no one can get to in the land sense a reserve of soldier at sea practicing relay in the chain of amphibious vessel around Australia

Australia needs a marine corp to increase their capabilities and their personnel numbers. 12000 across the entire fleet isn't sufficient. 60+ thousand defence personnel across the services is well and truely insufficient event their 101,000 personnel target for 2040 is insufficient. For a population for ok very 26 million, we should have a defence force personnel capability of at least half a million full-time!. You can't have the fleet capabilities or defence capabilities if you don't have the personnel and the recruitment process is 25 years out of date. With increasing tensions inn t her Indo-Pacific region between China and the Philippines, Taiwan, Australia and Japan just to name a few. We don't have the numbers is that simple. Defence needs to drastically change their recruitment eligibility, length of time for the recruitment process, reduce the paperwork required for an application and just get to ASIO and the AFP to do a full history check, if thepolice can do that for terror suspects without their consent under freedom of information they why can defence just simple require 200 points of ID, and education history and references, leave the rest for ASIO and state/Federal police to gather Intel. I'm pretty sure if China invaded they wouldn't be worried about where you lived for the last ten years or ask you for your background history check or if you lived overseas for more than 12 months.

Raw Potato A US naval group will lead that. All other forces will be peripheral to US Carrier Group and Amphibious Battle Group operations.

Raw Potato the combined forces of Australia, Japan, US, South Korea, Philippines, etc are more than capable of stopping a Chinese naval group. This is just a small cog in a much larger military machine, and just because you sneer does not stop it being a valuable training exercise. I love seeing allied forces working together like this. It is a reminder that working together makes all of us stronger and more secure. Proud of the Australian navy and its incredible ships and crew who serve, and proud to see our Philippine neighbors aboard and working toward our common good. Especially considering what China is trying to do off the Philippine coast.
