I have helped hundreds of people pass their B2 First exam at no cost, and I would LOVE to keep it that way. Of course, I still have to maintain a full time job while running this channel, and BELIEVE ME, I spend the majority of my free time writing, recording, editing and publishing videos. I love doing this, but I would love it even more if I could do it for a living!
If every student that PASSED their exams bought one beer for Bruce I’d be able to do this full time. That would be MARVELLOUS!
So, if you’ve PASSED your B2 First exam, and feel that SMASH English really helped, please consider donating here:

Hi Tobi, would you mind helping me with a mild confussion here with my B2 First exam in a moth? I am not sure if I understand the evaluation of one type of exercise in the "use of english" part. In part 2 where I have to put correct words into empty spaces can I put there any word that suits there gramatically and also does not change the meaning of the sentence?
Here is an example:
The Scots view of PATRIOTISM (THEMSELVES) is often quite difficult for visitors to understand. That view tends to be a mixture of outrageous pride and incredible cynicism. It’s a complex mixture. The complete Scottish patriot is a far rarer person than would be found in other countries such as America. And yet, any Scot who completely writes off Scotland will be intensely disliked.
The correct word there should be themselves but the word patriotism suits there also - or at least I think so. Would I get points also for this word?
The problem here is the sample task which is itself quite vague and potentially open to multiple interpretations. A well written exam will not produce opportunities for various interpretations such as this. Where did you find this exercise?
