**About the spoiler section at the end, contains bits about AHS season 3** So I'm not a comic book fan (outside of Saga, and The Sandman) So I'm not sure what the physical or emotional cost of the serum is, but I was a fan of American Horror Story until season 3, which introduced a character that could raise the dead at no cost to anyone, which I felt immediately lessened the impact of any death in the series, and was one of the factors that ruined that story for me. I think that if Amanda Waller is going to bring back characters it needs to REALLY cost the story something severe, otherwise after we discover the serum exists in this universe, no death means anything (unless they're put through a wood chipper :P ) and then also the tension of the narrative is almost completely removed, especially if poor Harley Quinn is already being punched around like a doll and then unable to die! Either way I am loving your commentary about this movie Grace, and I'm enjoying the array of characters I'm being presented with; I just hope, like you, that Quinn isn't a sexy lobotomized victim, but an empowered ex-therapist who chose the role she plays in this universe.
Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Harley Quinn are in the safe zone. Deadshot and Boomerang are going to live because they've been in pretty much every version of the Suicide Squad so they'll live to make it to a sequel because its hard to picture a movie without those two characters. Harley Quinn will live because she's a fan favorite.
I'm feeling the theory that Katana is part of Batman's undercover team, thus she won't die but turn traitor and escape somehow. As far as the death/ressurection thing, I don't mind them reviving members in a post-credits scene or something, so long as it's a one time thing. If they keep doing something like that, then it'll turn into Marvel where there's no consequences, and it'll cheapen deaths more generally if they're just gonna be revived. So having them revived once for dramatic effect, but after that they have to die for real.

Killer Croc also gets fucked up pretty badly, but he's super-durable and heals quickly so he's not out of commission. Oh, and Enchantress isn't a member of the Suicide Squad in the movie. The Suicide Squad is trying to find her and abduct her before the "bad guys" get her first and sell her to Lex Luthor. Beyond that, the Joker is only in flashbacks and is on the loose during the events of this movie after breaking out of Arkham and torturing Harleen Quinzel, causing her to go nuts from prolonged and excessive electro-shock "therapy." Amanda Waller claims to have no interest in having the Joker on the Suicide Squad and iirc says something about letting Batman find him and kill him instead of capturing him herself.

Joker definitely won't be killed off. Aside from from him being such a well known character, when Ryan Gosling was approached about playing the Joker before Leto, he refused because he didn't want to sign a multi-movie contract. So I'm strongly assuming Leto signed a multi movie deal!

Are you familiar with the theory that Katana is actually a double agent? Given that's not technically a villain and was never a member of Suicide Squad. As for that whole resurrection serum thing, they've long said of comics that no one really dies except Uncle Ben, Gwen Stacy, and Jason Todd. (Well, not so much go Jason Todd these days.) What I've never understood is why this rarely applies to comic book movies. I think it should at least. It'll be more comic book-y.

i'm not pointing fingers at you, Grace, but I think that the fact 5/6 of the non-essential or "killable" characters are played by non-white and/or women actors is very telling of the reality of progress in Hollywood (and by extension the USA.)
I really don't think they should introduce the Samsara serum, it would be cheap and remove any sort of drama from potential death scenes. How are we supposed to feel like they're ever in danger if we know they can be revived?
I think there has to be one big unexpected death. You can't just only kill off the no-name characters, that's just too predictable and no one would really care anyway. While Joker and Harley are pretty much guaranteed to survive, I think Deadshot, Boomerang, and Flagg might be on the chopping block. I'm sure Will Smith would want Deadshot to survive but can you imagine how big of an impact it would make if he does die? And I wonder how far they'll actually go with the super powers and sci-fi tech. MoS established that this universe is more "grounded" and there hasn't really been much superhero/super powers stuff. So it would be kind of weird for them to suddenly go so comic booky with people being brought back to life.

El Diablo kills her brother, killing himself whilst being amazing in every single way, he tells Rick to tell Killer Croc to set off a bomb underneath them killing them both

I'm not 100% sure with Joker because I'm not sure how his character will be installed but Katana I'm just 50/50 because I'm also not sure about her role. You're right. He cant die, in the comics he survives after taking a bomb explosion to protect the squad and then he leaves the squad to continue his sentence so he can't just die, he's a metahuman so I'm guessing he comes back in the sequel to help out a little or at least to give a closure.
The revival serum thing would be really shitty, because you'd basically get another Marvel where no one believes a character is truly dead. Also it just takes the thrill out of any possible sequel, because the characters cannot die. It would be like Supernatural, and although that series is incredibly popular, I personally think it gets old really quickly.
I was pissed when I heard that Oprah was going to play Waller, and I said that Viola would be the perfect Waller after seeing her on How to Get Away with Murder. Happy to see that became a reality.
My theory with Harley and Joker is maybe they know how to defuse the bombs. Maybe Amanda Waller had her hands in Arkham before and used the same/similar devices. Hence the electroshock therapy. This would also tie in with Assualt on Arkham when Harley just laughs it off and finds it hilarious.....just a theory. :)

The only character that I disagree with that might reach crossover status is the Enchantress. If I am not mistaken the Enchantress is a Wonder Woman villain that could be used to establish a mystical presence in the DCCU. What does everyone think?
My Safe:Kitana is also a hero so I see her getting released from the program eventually plus she has other teams and things to do so I have her safe. Harley is safe if Joker is the original but is he's Jason Todd, she's toast! Deadshot has a daughter and some heroism in him so he is a lasting member that will earn freedom but mess up and spcome back or get hired in a Flag like role to assist in future teams. Croc is being set up for a monster mash with Clayface, manbat, Metamorpho, Solomon Grundy, and Poison Ivy for Batman's rogue's gallery. Boomerang is a Flash foe or Rogue's TeamMy Red Shirts:ElDiablo as a badass fatality. Slipknot is a casualty. Enchantress is a intro to Dr. Fate, Zatanna, and John Constantine that can lead them to new magical targets before she dies and her body is used for the resurrection formula.
El Diablo died because they blew him up with the enchantress's brother, that orange dude, and we got to see who diablo really was, which was a fiery skeleton demon, kind of like ghost rider, but with a indian touch of a cows skull and beads and charms, like the enchantress.
Also grace Killer Croc going AWOL? It's not that easy to go AWOL in the Suicide Squad. Amanda Waller has neck bombs implanted on the members. One wrong move and BOOM!!! no more head. Which could be Crocs possible death if he tries to escape.
If we link it to Assault on arkham: deadshot, captain boomerang, and Harley Quinn are gonna be safe. The Joker's death may be a possibility, Amanda Waller will be killed by Deadshot at the end

As for that whole resurrection serum thing, they've long said of comics that no one really dies except Uncle Ben, Gwen Stacy, and Jason Todd. (Well, not so much go Jason Todd these days.) What I've never understood is why this rarely applies to comic book movies. I think it should at least. It'll be more comic book-y.

i'm not pointing fingers at you, Grace, but I think that the fact 5/6 of the non-essential or "killable" characters are played by non-white and/or women actors is very telling of the reality of progress in Hollywood (and by extension the USA.)
I really don't think they should introduce the Samsara serum, it would be cheap and remove any sort of drama from potential death scenes. How are we supposed to feel like they're ever in danger if we know they can be revived?
I think there has to be one big unexpected death. You can't just only kill off the no-name characters, that's just too predictable and no one would really care anyway. While Joker and Harley are pretty much guaranteed to survive, I think Deadshot, Boomerang, and Flagg might be on the chopping block. I'm sure Will Smith would want Deadshot to survive but can you imagine how big of an impact it would make if he does die?
And I wonder how far they'll actually go with the super powers and sci-fi tech. MoS established that this universe is more "grounded" and there hasn't really been much superhero/super powers stuff. So it would be kind of weird for them to suddenly go so comic booky with people being brought back to life.

I'm betting that everyone except Harley, and Joker will likely die, but I hope that the squad stays together at least for 3 films. The idea of that serum is cool to me, as I want to get to know the characters I'm unfamiliar with.
I think that Slipknot and El Diablo will die for sure, while the others stay for a sequel film. And in my opinion Enchantress has a very low chance of dying simply because she is the only member of the team that uses magic, so I think that Killer Croc will probably die if there is more than two deaths of the team in this movie.

Look at the trailer, she never appears with the team, I reckon she is part of the mission the squad are on, possibly working for another big bad.Also the pic of her in a relationship with Rick Flagg takes on more emotion if he is later sent after her!

El Diablo kills her brother, killing himself whilst being amazing in every single way, he tells Rick to tell Killer Croc to set off a bomb underneath them killing them both

I agree with most of your list but I do have some disagreements. I think the final six will be Rick Flag, Dead Shot, Harley Quinn, Diablo, and Captain Boomerang. I'm not 100% sure with Joker because I'm not sure how his character will be installed but Katana I'm just 50/50 because I'm also not sure about her role. Any word on who Eastwood's character is though?
For certain Cap Boomerang, Harley Quinn, Rick Flag, Deathstroke and Deadshot will live to fight another day.

You're right. He cant die, in the comics he survives after taking a bomb explosion to protect the squad and then he leaves the squad to continue his sentence so he can't just die, he's a metahuman so I'm guessing he comes back in the sequel to help out a little or at least to give a closure.

The revival serum thing would be really shitty, because you'd basically get another Marvel where no one believes a character is truly dead. Also it just takes the thrill out of any possible sequel, because the characters cannot die. It would be like Supernatural, and although that series is incredibly popular, I personally think it gets old really quickly.
I was pissed when I heard that Oprah was going to play Waller, and I said that Viola would be the perfect Waller after seeing her on How to Get Away with Murder. Happy to see that became a reality.

My theory with Harley and Joker is maybe they know how to defuse the bombs. Maybe Amanda Waller had her hands in Arkham before and used the same/similar devices. Hence the electroshock therapy. This would also tie in with Assualt on Arkham when Harley just laughs it off and finds it hilarious.....just a theory. :)

The only character that I disagree with that might reach crossover status is the Enchantress. If I am not mistaken the Enchantress is a Wonder Woman villain that could be used to establish a mystical presence in the DCCU. What does everyone think?

Harley is safe if Joker is the original but is he's Jason Todd, she's toast! Deadshot has a daughter and some heroism in him so he is a lasting member that will earn freedom but mess up and spcome back or get hired in a Flag like role to assist in future teams. Croc is being set up for a monster mash with Clayface, manbat, Metamorpho, Solomon Grundy, and Poison Ivy for Batman's rogue's gallery. Boomerang is a Flash foe or Rogue's TeamMy Red Shirts:ElDiablo as a badass fatality. Slipknot is a casualty. Enchantress is a intro to Dr. Fate, Zatanna, and John Constantine that can lead them to new magical targets before she dies and her body is used for the resurrection formula.
El Diablo died because they blew him up with the enchantress's brother, that orange dude, and we got to see who diablo really was, which was a fiery skeleton demon, kind of like ghost rider, but with a indian touch of a cows skull and beads and charms, like the enchantress.
Also grace Killer Croc going AWOL? It's not that easy to go AWOL in the Suicide Squad. Amanda Waller has neck bombs implanted on the members. One wrong move and BOOM!!! no more head. Which could be Crocs possible death if he tries to escape.

If we link it to Assault on arkham: deadshot, captain boomerang, and Harley Quinn are gonna be safe. The Joker's death may be a possibility, Amanda Waller will be killed by Deadshot at the end

I'm not very keen on the Samsara Serum however I'd be open to it as long as the film gives it the elements of the Lazarus Pit in the comics like "They died a hero, but were reborn a monster!"

i don't think enchantress and joker going to die. but if what Grace meant cheating death or seem death... yeah...maybe. reasons behind it : joker never die... at least not in suicide squad story line. meanwhile for enchantress... we never been hinted who or what the squad mission really are. fan theory : they tried to captured or disable enchantress. i know that enchantress isn't well known villain or antagonist... but as Grace said she represent the magic world in DCEU. the aspect that equivalent with mythology (Wonder Woman and Aquaman) and the power to can counter superstrength heroes like Superman, GL, Cyborg, Flash, etc. Suicide Squad itself has tendency to tell a story that Waller win in the end or no body win.
we also knew... or at least we knew that DCEU take a different road then MCU. i don't think there will be suicide squad 2... if there are survival on this movie and that suicide squad still exist in future DCEU, i think they going to merge it with other film. i.e : Batman upcoming or Flash or Aquaman. etc...
