this scene is such a masterpiece of true acting. Words cannot describe how amazing and touching Julianne was in this movie. Every feeling, every look in her eyes...it's just breathtaking. Oscars lost my respect when they didn't even nominate Julianne for this role, one of the greatest female characters ever.
"You see I never loved him...I fucked him and I married him because I wanted his money..now I've fallen in love with him for real, now he's dying." Just beautiful.
I freaking love this scene and the "shame on you!" pharmacy one. They are so well executed. I keep coming back to watch them. It's incredible that she was in like six scenes during the movie and still I've read articles that said that when someone says "Magnolia" the person that comes to your mind is Julianne Moore. I mean, the movie is full of great actors, but Julianne's scenes are just beyond. I don't understand how she didn't get an Oscar nomination for this role.
Agree, Moore should have been awarded for her performance in Magnolia, but all actors are amazing in this movie: Tom Cruise never was this good, Philip Seymour Hoffman is always amazing but this is one of my favorite performance from him, and all others are also remarquable : William H. Macy, John C. Reilly, Philip Baker Hall, Melinda Dillon, Melora Walters, Luiz Guzman. No doubt, PTA is master at directing actors.
One of the best scenes EVER seen on a movie, amazing. Thank u so much for this video, is one of my favourite scenes ever, I love it so much. I just can't understand how she wasn't nominated for an Oscar. It's 100% an Oscar performance
PalmurcioWorld I cried so much ( three times, in the theater, when I saw it each time); the silent - hurt- wrenching tears that run down your face and just hope other people can't hear all the snot that's in your nose when all you want to do is get it out--- oh my gosh- A plus acting. It's hard to get lost in emotion with bad acting, and this was brilliant - screen and acting and directing!!
Dunno, I'm not her biggest fan & most people didn't like this film & I didn't see it bar a few clips on yt.... But, this is the best ever of Julianne Moore I've seen
Why? She’s a golddigger having a crisis of conscience, it’s interesting and heartbreaking. She wanted security and independence and now is paying the awful price of absolutely hating herself for the rest of her life because of it. She’s not a terrible person, or didn’t mean to be, but there are just some things you can’t undo. When she’s yelling “shame on you” in the pharmacy she’s talking about herself. I think Linda is a great character.
It does happen. A coworker was sentenced to jail for abusing his daughter. The wife got everything and he went to jail. It took about three years but she came forward on her own and confessed she lied about everything because she was angry at him but she wanted to take it all back, wanted everything back the way it was. Of course she never could get her old life back. My former coworker got out of jail but he was never the same. Sad stuff all around.
I think Julianne Moore gave a terrible acting performance in Magnolia, the worst in the film yet her acute overacting is so fun to watch here, I don't mind what she did in this at all. In fact, if she played it subtle it would have been solid at least but also quite forgettable.

Fancy seeing u here
PalmurcioWorld Nicely put. Her performance here and in the pharmacy scene still leave me in awe.
Yeah. If she had a 6th nomination, Magnolia should absolutely be it. The pharmacy scene alone. I was soooo wrecked when she got snubbed that year.
So very true !
God ...I love the soundtrack
Very thin red line
I think you mean the score. The Ammie Mann songs are great but I found the official score by Jon Brion and it is incredible.
@@mitchellhughes5180 do you happen to know the name of the track playing in this scene?

The pharmacy scene is EVERYTHING especially if you deal with pharmacies lol
Tom Cruise was insanely good too ❤ one of his best scenes in Film.
@@cellardoor4199 what do you think about it?

She was so intense in this movie. Her character is one you will never forget.
2:50 is the greatest and most emotional single moment of acting.
This acting is like... transcendent. Truly inspired - one of my favorite performances ever

Still can't believe how the academy snub her , she was terrifyng in this movie
words cannot describe how much i love this scene. this is just... art
same here
Same. I keep coming back to watch this scene and the one where she's at the pharmacy.
at least she deserved a nomination for her performance. Just amazing!
2:51 my favorite line. She is over the top playing crazy
This movie came out the year after The Thin Red Line, and it shows in the soundtrack. 😍
she is so human ! cheer that !
Fantastic acting
Honestly Julianne is such a pro for pulling this off.
The first and the last time that a 'bad' woman confessed everything for doing a good thing. That's why I was touched by this scene.
Amazing performance. 👍👍👍
A great movie.
Best actress

God she's so good
Now that she is getting what she wanted and does not want it. Like the song "Wise Up" said. "You Got What You Want"
that last shut the fuck up kills me every time lmaooo
Julianne Moore saying "Shut The Fuck Up" is probably the best thing you'll hear today.
"I took care of him through this Alan. What Now Then?"
Julianne Moore is epic as Linda....she protrys such raw guilt...she should at least got an Oscar nod..
I just have one question: how do I get in touch with Linda?
Watch still alice. Its fantastic and tough.
3:31: Only Black Mothers talk that way when kids talk back or say something stupid 😀😀😀😀
LOL--you need to get to know some other mothers.
Yeah she can just give it to charity but she's on edge and doesn't like the legalities and binding contracts obligation. It's a morality issue.
The lawyer, who is he? (Actor)
What song is that?
Does anyone know what song is playing? Thank you.
just give the money to charity drama queen lmao
Ry Ry shut the fuck up!!! shut the fuck up!!!!
says the white guy who has never stood up for anything in his life
Oda Mae and the nun
Go back to your video games, snot-nosed brat.
She’s on drugs dummy
when my parents ask me to do something for my life 3:26
Tom Cruise also said to Dustin Hoffman: "Ray, did you fucking hear what I said? Shut up!"
wait a minute, wasn't she?
The mayor of Gotham City moved to LA and became a lawyer after being tired of the bullshit. 🤣
man I wish I had such wife
3:27 - 3:35
Julianne Moore gave a great performance but I can’t stand her character in this movie...

adultery isn't against the law ?
No some people have open marriages depends on your vows regarding laws with god I guess.
Of course not. It’s considered immoral but not illegal.
What a drama queen, just give it to charity if your that concerned, jeez, people are so dramatic sometimes
A scene that would NEVER happen in reality!!! 😂
A gold digger saying she doesn’t want the money!

She’s so annoying at the end of this scene.
Guarantee there aren't a whole lot of women like this left... Women who don't want there husbands money..? Gtfo

Carlos Barton Shut the fuck up you loser. You've commented this on another video. Actually, just fuck off.
Are you kidding me this is literally well known as one of her best performances
she's on drugs on these scenes, that is way she's behaving over the top, she's actually impressive
You must really shut the fuck up now, please shut the fuck up.
What? Her performance in this movie is just flawless!
