  • How to repair a Canon Selphy printer which is only printing out the top half (left side or right side) of the picture. The repair is easily done once opened up. This is for the CP510, but it seems this problem is common to many of the Selphy printers.
    Intro from Ratatat: www.ratatatmusi...

    Kit used:
    Brymen BM811 multimeter
    HP 54602B Digital Storage Oscilloscope

    Thanks for a great run through, I'll try it out on CP760. Very old by now, and crossing fingers! Update: need to use d=3mm (diameter) Phillips +, all 4 corners. Good luck everyone!

    I was unable to find a thin enough cable tie to fit without rubbing so I used some thin copper wire which I twisted tightly then glued it in place. All working fine so thanks for the video tutorial. Really helpful, thanks.

    My printer got handed down to me from a friend and the only thing wrong was that the battery… no longer held a charge. He tried to fix it but messed it up. I guess I will need to use the cord. No worries… take care. All the best and thanks for the tip , just in case!!

    Thanks for a nice and very simple to do video. It worked well on my CP760 model. In India, service centre told me that its old model and can't be repaired. But I did it with your video. Only thing I used copper wire instead of plastic tag which was not going inside. Thanks again

    So clearly described. The repair worked perfectly on a CP720. Thank you so much.

    Sadly it only helped a little bit with mine but thanks for the video!! I have to hold doen the part behind the bar for each colour for it to get enough traction😅

    Worked great for us on a CP720 we ended up with, would have thrown it out otherwise. Subscribed. :)
    Also I love Ratatat!

    Thank you for the video, I'd like to try but I would like to be sure I use the correct glue. Which one do you suggest? Also: the crack in the plastic is in the bottom part, not visible from the top. How do you suggest to glue it? Thanks!

    • @TechBench
      @TechBench  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used a generic brand of super-glue (or it's industrial name, cyanoacrylate adhesive). If the crack is on the bottom, it may require some disassembly, but you could also try to put it on its side and drop a small drop into the crack. Just make sure you immediately "zip" it up so that it can set with as little gap as possible.

    I was so hopeful--this did not work on my Selphy CP 900. I'm pretty sure it's toast. But thank you for your video--it helped me get the courage to open up my selphy and see if I could see what was wrong.

      So sorry to hear you did not come right. Was the torsion bar split? Yes, it's always good to feel empowered enough to have a peek inside.

    • @annadrc

      Nothing seemed to be split, and I used a flashlight to see to be sure I didn't miss anything.

      Try and see if you can print something while it is open - apply some (slight) pressure on the side that does not print - it might point you in a direction of where the issue is. Good luck!

      @@TechBench Hello, i've just tried on my CP510 but it doesn't work. I have applied pressure on the side that does not print : nothing works. Is it possible that only the half piece of metal heats ? Thanks a lot.

      Is there still a gradual fade-out to the one side, or is it more of a step-to-white? If it steps, then it could be a contact problem with the flat flex cable leading up to the thermal print head. If it fades out, the only explanation can be that there is some gradual increase in distance between the thermal print head and the supporting drum. Did the drum perhaps get a knock that may have caused it to move backward on the one side?

    Hello, i have the same issue that my Canon Selphy CP910 printer only print half of the photo. But when i dismantle the printer, the roller that you have shown to us. Theres no crack, do you have any solution about my case? Can share in your video?

    • @TechBench
      @TechBench  ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason for the one-sided print is due to uneven pressure from the print head onto the paper. In my case the little cracked plastic could not torque the pressure finger to press the printing head down far enough. Look for something that presses down on that head-mechanism and make sure it can apply appropriate pressure. All the best.

    Hi, how and where do you feed the photo paper ? I think I put the tray in wrong. I feed a paper through the front just spits it out from the back and when I try to print something from my camera it says no paper. Can you help ?

    I don't have the paper cassette for my selphy printer? Do I need it? If I do where can I get a replacement?

    • @TechBench
      @TechBench  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! You don't state in which country you are or for which model you need the cassette. Have you tried contacting Canon's support people or an authorised dealer near you?

    Funny question, but what kind of screwdriver is that? I am looking through my husbands tools and can't find one that is small enough but long enough to fit

    • @TechBench
      @TechBench  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      - not a funny question at all! It's a 3mm by 100mm phillips point (star) screwdriver. I guess in US units that means 3/32 inch by 4 inches. Any good hardware store should stock them for a dollar or two.

  • @katelee9390

    HiI followed your instructions but cannot get the cable tie to be small enough for the bar to still move - it catches on the cable tie! Any suggestions?

    • @TechBench
      @TechBench  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Kate. The cable-tie is basically just there to make sure the entire
      thing sets tightly. If you don't have a small enough cable-tie, just let
      it set then cut it loose after the glue as set. The glue should be
      strong enough on its own to keep the bar from slipping inside the
      plastic. All the best!

    what kind of fool would buy that in the first place?? lmao a Cheap inkjet would do better..

    • @TechBench
      @TechBench  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Possibly, although a "cheap inkjet" does not add a final UV protection layer, nor is it as portable. The Celphy printers all come with a battery pack slot to be fully mobile. Me, I just got both - each have their uses. But I guess the point of the video is to repair it if it breaks.

    Hi, I have this problem on a Canon Selphy QX10, is there a way to fix this on these printers?

    • @TechBench
      @TechBench  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I have no experience with that model, but the same principles should still apply. If you can, open it up and check that there is even pressure on the thermal print head while printing.
