+John Keates As far as I know there are no firmware updates available for it, so extracting it that way won't work. It would have to be read off the flash. It probably does have serial support somewhere on it since it is a more or less off the shelf controller from ALPS. I didn't notice it specifically though.

I got a similar printer and i want to mod it to use thermal paper directly as if i am getting it it they use thermal ink on the film in cartridges
