    I've had my DN-01 coming up on 4 years now and still love it. The engine is a 700cc V-Twin. It has sufficient power as far as I am concerned and it has Sport and semi-manual shift modes so you can control the gearing if you need to. I've never had an issue even riding 2-up with my wife. I should add that I tend to ride easy so my idea of "sufficient" may not be the same as your own. :D

    Fantastic video! And thanks for taking the time and putting your mad editing skillz to use for it.
    I have not driven a motorcycle in a good 16 years so this is my first time out in a while. I did drive my "Dino" for a few blocks as we had to find a sharp hill to unload it off the truck to get it out. ;o) So that was rather exhilarating!
    Heh, THEN I went and got my permit today.
    I uploaded a couple vids of my bike on this account if you'd like to see.

    Enjoyed the video. I looked at one of these when I got my Burgman they seem to operate the same. You have the sport button and we have the power button they seem to work the same. Keep the sunny side up.

    The Honda DN01 definetely IS a great bike (and not a scooter-bike, or a bike-scooter as it is defined here in France).
    I wish I could afford one.
    The absence of clutch lever and gear selector feels really strange at 1st but in the end I got used to it!
    Thanks for this great great video about a great great bike!

      I regret trading my DN01 back in 2017. I bought an Indian Scout and customized the heck out of it. The Scout was a beautiful bike but it was not as fun as, nor did it get the kind of attention I did with the DN01. The DN was a great bike and is very underrated imho. Enjoy your new black one. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    this helped me out some:] Just I might be getting one and I have a few questions, this will be my first motorcycle, iv riden dirt bikes before, but im only 16, any sugjestions for me? also Hows the vibration from the handle bars at like highway speeds? And I'm still having a little rough understanding of when u get below ten the cluth disengages and the back wheel may slide alittle in a wide turn. Thanks for the videos btw and I subscribed!

    • @RC62
      @RC62  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the bike weighs in about 600 lbs and is heavy for its HP rating. Definitely not a screamer when it comes to speed and torque. But it is a great ride. And for me, not having a really powerful bike is a good thing. It helps keep me out of trouble. :D

    Hello RC, was it easy to mount some add-ons on the handlebar as it seems quiet thick and oddly shaped from the regular ones?

    • @RC62
      @RC62  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it was a bit hard to mount things to the handlebars. There is a plastic cover over most of it.

  • @124kpr
    @124kpr 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the info , I will have to try and find one in a dealer and see how it feels , but I imagine the foot plates get in the way as well. There is always the MP3 option but I prefer two wheels.

    • @RC62
      @RC62  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The floorboards are set forward so not in the way when putting your feet down or duck walking the bike.

  • @124kpr
    @124kpr 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very good detailed review.
    I had a stroke 18 months ago leaving a left arm that has very limited use apart from being able hold on to the handle bar and a weakened left leg and foot drop , although I am getting slowly stronger with daily gym sessions, but we are talking years of recovery and at 56 I'd rather not wait a few more years to back on a bike again. So Ideally I would like automatic motorcycle with a low enough seat to manoeuvre the bike when sat on it. With only a 29" leg the NC700 DCT seat is far too high even with a seat lowering kit. The CTX700 would be ideal but Honda UK would not import it . ( very short sighted , so many older riders and disabled are crying out for a bike like that) So the DN-01 seems to be ideal compromise except the weight . How easy is it to paddle the DaN-01 around when sat on it?

    • @RC62
      @RC62  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The DN01 is pretty heavy, 580 LBs. I could push it around on level ground while sitting on it but not so easy if there is an uphill slope at all.

    Yeah the price tag was a bit high. Probably one of the reasons it didn't sell here in the states very well. Honda discontinued it in the US after only one year, 2009. It's a fun bike though. :D

    Nice explanation of the DN RC, I would really like one but the price in the UK is way out my range, it is a lot more expensive than most other bikes/ (Large Scooters) maybe because it is a niche market and not a high volume sales bike, but i am sure Honda could sell a lot more if the price was right. :)

    Thanx for the info but in the mean time i found my dream bike, the Honda NC700X with automatic transmission just like the DN-01, not that i can afford any of them even used

  • @IRINE7
    @IRINE7 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    How much does it cost? In Greece it costs around 12,000 euros nowadays. Back in 2010 its price wouldn't exceed 10,500 euros. Hayabusa is even more expensive: 16,000 euros, as much as a sedan.

  • @RC62
    @RC62  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    They were not popular here in the US and only the 2009 model was sold. I paid $16,500 (~12,241 Euros) back in 2009 when they came out. If you can find one at a dealer they are going as low as about $9,000.

  • @cloudstrife9790
    @cloudstrife9790 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I will do! I need to pass my full test and somehow get money to buy it :( haha. It's really nice, I can shift gears fine but why make it "harder" when I can purchase one of these :)

  • @nunogirao

    You don't ride in a road with bumps, you ride in bumps with a road. Get a trail bike, man. Nice video and explanations, thought :)

  • @RC62
    @RC62  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah the DN01 price point is a bit high. Would have been lower if they sold more of them. If any dealers still have one on their showroom floor you might get a really good deal on a new one.
    It's good to learn on a manual shift bike. Once you get that down riding a scooter or automatic is simple. :D
    Ride safe...

  • @JackyswaTv

    @RC62 yea I understand :] and I dont need power and speed, I just want a nice comfy bike that can get me there and back safly can handle long trips, and is a joy to have. OFC I like alittle power and Iv done enough studying to see the dn-01 has some power maybe not as much as a crouch rocket but I dont really like the feel of things like the ninja 250, and yes I know the bike costs a good bit but a good friend of my fathers is moving so, he just wants it to go to a good home:]

      So got mine from Amazon several years ago. Can't find the exact name (Hercules Auxiliary Mirrors) but these look to be the same thing. Just check if there are different sizes. I took mine off and found they had abraded the paint on the OEM mirrors so please be aware of that. www.amazon.com/Side-Mirror-Auxiliary-Offers-Angle/dp/B012GSJVEE/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1510845488&sr=1-1&keywords=hercules+mirrors

    There are a few DN-01s still available, some of them with less than 200 miles on them. So, here's the question For the price I've seen on a 'Used' DN-01, i.e., with less than 200 miles on, and the price on a new CTX-700 with the new DCT technology, which is really a better choice? I haven't ridden a bike on almost 40 years, and I was never licensed to do it anyway. Don't tell anyone. :) But, now, I'd like to get a bike for around town driving, and for that around town, an autobox interests me. I have a 2013 Toyota Camry SE, with a 4 cylinder engine, and it has the normal drive mode, paddle shifters on the wheel, and a sport mode on the stick, so not really too much different than either the DN-01 or the CTX-700.
    If you were in my position, and I want saddle bags, backrest and top bag for the bike, which do YOU think is a better choice? Thanks in advance for your answer.

    • @RC62
      @RC62  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gary C I'm not at all familiar with the CTX-700. While I love my DN01, the fact that it didn't sell well here in the States means a somewhat limited choice of aftermarket stuff that fits. Givi does make a top box and hard cases for the DN01 and you can get a back rest from Utopia. If the CTX is a more common bike then aftermarket upgrades may be more easily obtained (or it may come with those options I dunno...). Anyway, my advice is check out each bike and see if you can test ride them. That's really the only way to know which is right for you.

    As heavy as it is, when parking up or downhill sounds like I'll somehow need both hands over on the right side - one to hold the brake lever while I pull on the parking brake with the other hand, eegads! If I forget to set it before I release the right hand brake lever then I've just dropped my expensive bike, oh crap.

    • @RC62
      @RC62  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not found it to be an issue. Can always hold the brake with my right foot as I reach down to set the parking brake. If both feet are on the ground it still only takes a second to drop my right hand from the brake lever to the parking brake.

    • @CA2APat

      Hi RC62, thanks for the reply! :)
      My red DN-01 with full Givi was delivered 2 days ago and will be sitting in my storage unit until I get back my balance and skills from 20+ yrs ago. As it is with these rare bikes, I bought it with no opportunity to see it or ANY DN-01's other than great photos and zero experience with the model or its marvels or quirks. Seems like your videos were the first time I ever even saw one in motion!
      Scared myself 3 weeks ago picking up my new-to-me Suzuki Burgman 400 for the 6 hr ride home from the dealer. Turns out my vestibular balance has badly deteriorated from, I guess, age and a lack of actually needing great balance (practice in other words) so will somehow be getting a Buell Blast over to a rider safety course to work that crucial skill set back up to par. I'm also working on a balance disc several times a day and it does seem to help.
      Have to ride again and enjoy life!!

    • @RC62
      @RC62  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Congrats on the DN01. It is a rare beast for sure. It is fun to ride and isn't hard to get used to. You will want to practice U turns in a safe place as the DN01 definitely does not handle like a manual clutch machine on slow turns. Gotta drag the rear brake a bit and keep the revs up a little so the tranny does not disengage.
      Good luck with getting your balance back. I understand practicing balance helps the inner ear readjust.
      Ride safe. :)

    i'm a chicken sh!t too, all i need is something that is fast enough to keep up with traffic so they are not passing me all the god damn time, so a small bike or scooter just won't do, this DN-01 would do pretty nicely if it wasn't so expensive, so i guess the only choice if you want an automatic transmission 2 wheeled machine is a big (400-600cc) scooter
    Right now i'm learning on a 24 yo 125cc manual bike and i already managed to flip it because i wasn't paying enough attention to the clutch

    yeah but that's the whole point to an automatic, so that you don't have to learn to drive/ride a manual, there is not much point afterwards, automatics are more expensive, heavier, less fuel efficient and because they are so much more complex more prone to breaking and more expensive to fix (compared to manual version of the same vehicle)
    You ride safe as well...
