Can I just keep (big27mm) hydraulic tensioner in and tight while timing instead of special tool do you think? Just ask bc it seems a little challenging to special tool in on passenger side with engine in car. Thank you
no absolutely NO, hydraulic tensioner, is not filled with oil, and is not fully extended, you have to use the special one in order for you to do the correct tension and timing, just find one and tight by hand ..

@@SuperFastDriver The tool that replaces hydraulic tensioner is screwed in until it stops,how much do you screw the middle one in you had the gun on to get the proper tension on the chain?Does instructions come with the timing set? Thanks for all these videos,they really help learn these BMW engines!
just make sure that the marks are visible when you install the vanos sprockets, on exhaust sprocket is written “EX” on the intake is written “IN” on Cyl Bank 1-4 on the Exhaust sprocket you have channel for the vacuum pump

Does the vanos sprocket have to be facing any particular direction.

the tool is from ebay. All the spare parts I bought from local car dealer
