  • Wigan vs Wasps in the final of the Middlesex Sevens at twickenham. Wasps had taken an early lead in the first half and the Twickenham crowd were singing 'Swing Low' as they anticipated their team shwoing the league boys a thing or two. Watch what happened.

I'm a Wasps fan but in the bigger picture I was delighted how the Wigan lads in effect gave Union a kick up the back side in terms of fitness/skills and how a certain member of their team helped England win the World cup. There was also a Mr Edwards.........

Thank you so much for these uploads, absolute gems. Is it a stretch to ask if you have any Bradford Bulls at Middlesex 7s footage?

I remember wigan goin playin in the australian rugby league 7s and winning that too! Offiah ripped um to pieces. Face facts, probably the best 7s team you're likely to see! Robinson, offiah and tuigamala all in the same team! That says it all....

@tysonuk someone has put up the whole widnes v canberra match from 1989 in full. go and have a look at it. canberra ripped them to shreds for 30 embarrassing mins, then the alcohol poisoning kicked in. (canberra won on a sunday, drank solid til wed then flew 24hrs and played a game 2 days later,) also look at the 1994 kangaroos v wigan game, a virtual raiders v wigan match. it's these same wigan players you see here that were made to look , well , like wasps.

@docgonzales I also remember aussie club teams losing the world club challenge almost every year.

6:46 "These guys can train all day every day if they have to ... " - as opposed to the jolly nice Union boys who all have real jobs you mean. PISS OFF!!! How Union ever became so popular is beyond all of us who follow League. It's like watching paint dry (slowly and with forward passes)

@SlipperyReel have you ever played sevens? its way more tiring than 15s

What a result! I'm a league man. Although I can watch the internationals in Union, i still find them slow and boring, with utterly no respect for the knock- on and forward pass rules. Literally every union game I watch there are about 6 unseen knock- ons which go unnoticed.

Not anymore. Sales beat St Helens and London Broncos, St Helens fail to win at Dubai 7's.

    sorry, wasps
what they would have done to bath would have been an international incident

@docgonzales wigan beat the broncos only the year before, in oz. so i doubt another aussie side could have done anymore damage to these toffs pride!

lovely to see the comments section full of a massive chip on Northern shoulders.
Arguably the greatest British club side in the history of either code comes and beats another good team at their own code - massive achievement, don't need all the bitching that comes with it.
Irony is, of that Wigan side, Offiah, Tuigamala, Quinnell all came from Union. And Edwards, Farrell, Connolly, Robinson and Paul all moved to Union. What more can I say.

this was the best thing to ever happen to union, great games divided by middle class fuelled bigotry - and who wins england the union world cup? a league player

Lucky the aussies didn't send a league team over,
i saw the raiders put 52 points on this wigan side in '97.
what they would have done to bath woud've been cruel.
