How Long will my sailboat propellers last?

  • As with most things on a ship, they have a service life. For folding sailboat propellers and feathering sailboat propellers, the life is typically 10 years. Beyond this the wear of the mechanisms and the cathodic action of the ship systems can severely impact the life of the propeller. Bruntons Propellers are typically over engineered to give added value and reliability. The Varifold folding propeller has the largest teeth on the market and outlasts its competitors, Autoprop is toothless! That is correct, the wearing parts can be replaced extending the life.

I brought my Autoprop home to Scotland from Greece to service. It’s now in my spare bedroom and looks likely to last as long as the pyramids!!
