I thank my ancient history teacher for sharing this video as an additional resource

Really interesting, It's amazing that many restorations proved how accurate was Evans back then.

Yes, He seems to have had a real feel for the culture. Not to mention a vast amount of knowledge.

As a published lifelong scholar of Minoans, I think Tiny Epics produces outstanding introductions to their Western-fundamental civilization. That said, I hope listeners here to Dr. Nanno Marinatos will be aware that her central idea of ancient Crete---as a familiar kind of "empire" ruled by a "king" and "hierarchical court," with all else this implies---is not supported as what she declares to be "fact," either by demonstrable physical evidence or the current consensus of professional scholarship. See this for yourself in a 5-minute look at that consensus, at ancientlights.org/CalendarHouse/ch8.html .

Thank you so much for that reference. I was watching the Minoan Eclipse Calculator video by History & Apparatus and I begin to see some parallelism with the Calendar House descriptions. I really need to follow this direction of studies. It seems crucial to me.

@@37Dionysos Thank you so much. First I will read and digest these pages you indicated and then I'll probably come to hear your point of view. Good evening and I hope to speak to you very soon. I've got a boring full-time job as well ( I don't know actually if Lance's job is boring like mine...) so I'll need some spare time to pursue my passion but I've already a lot of questions: the Griffin warrior tomb and its 16 point star sigils, the mechanical spirals in the ongoing restoration of Thera's frescos, The names of the stone vases of the Hiksos pharaohs in the Heraklion Museum, the Mallia's kernos ... and I can go on, if I had Time or the money to buy time (..& plane tickets, and hotel rooms, and more space for my books: You Know...). Such a wonderful topic in History!

@@massimosquecco203 Thanks to you, Massimo. Very sympathetic to your time constraints. "Calendar House" is built from tying together many different discoveries by many different professionals and the plain-to-see evidences of both a practical 8-and-1/2-year cycle and the longer Saros in Minoan remains. Simply put, the iconographic patterns weave themSELVES together and create solid ground for understanding the system that made Minoans so successful without lifelong kings and an overbearing elite. Suggest you start at the analytical beginning, and always glad to discuss! ancientlights.org/CalendarHouse/

I think I can understand both the criticism and praise of Arthur Evans...archaeology itself was still developing its guidelines and practices so from modern eyes he may have been a bit heavy handed and creative with his restorations. That said, the beauty of the Minoan's art and island would inspire anyone
    Great vid ❤✌

Dear Lance, how long should we wait for your next video? All the previous ones are so well thought and interesting that I became a real "stan" of your lectures. I hope you'll bring something to watch in the near future, and I m sure I won't be the only one grateful for this. Greetings

Thank you Massimo for your kind message! When I get another break in my full-time job I will release the next bunch of videos I am developing. Hopefully I will be able to devote even more time to the channel in the future if it really takes off!

I really enjoyed this interview. Well done both of you! However, I would take Marinatos opinions of Arthur Evans with a huge grain of salt. Evans was a true Jekyll and Hyde character, a vicious four foot tall imperialist and bigot, who did his utmost to impede Minoan studies for some forty years after his initial finds for his own personal benefit. Read the ''Minotaur'' by Joseph MacGilivray to get a sense of him. As for the sites, Phaistos, which was never rebuilt as Knossos was, is much more evocative!!!
