This WWE reality TV Show Ended In Controversy!

- WWE reality TV show Tough Enough was a show designed to find the next big wresting star and series one gave us Maven Huffman. Whilst Nidia and he were the clear winners of that series it’s not so clear with future series of Tough Enough. I set out on a mission to figure out who really won Series 2! Along the way we saw John Morrison, Awesome Kong, Shelly Martinez and Ken Kennedy try out but fail. Ultimately this season ended in a screwy controversial finish with two girls winning it. Neither girl did anything of note in wrestling so I think they didn’t deserve to win!

Hardcore Holly has been pissed off since the early 90's
I bet he came out to this world as one angry baby.
@@twilliamspro how about you give me the belt and I bet everybody up!

The funniest thing I ever found about Tough Enough is how often the people that would win TE would never go on to do anything in WWE. While people that either didn't win the competition, or even make the initial cut, would go on to have a good run or career in WWE.
If anything, it just shows how bad WWE was at gauging talent.
Which means Vince is incredibly lucky he knew how to buy talent in Hogan, WCW firing Stone Cold to help him create his character, and The Rock being born into a wrestling family.
Granted, some of the contestants that lost managed to be stars in the WWE years later. Case in point, The Miz.
Not neccessarly. Don´t know if that was the case with TE but i know other casting shows like to weed out the good ones early to start proper training earlier. Some of the contestants might´ve been let go from the show to sign them to a developmental contract early. After all it´s a reality TV casting show, a lot of it is freaking fake.
Only Tough Enough winners to have decent enough WWE careers were Maven, John Morrison, and to a lesser extent Nidia. Matt Cappotelli probably would've been successful had his brain tumor not forced him into retirement
Josh Mathews also was with WWE for over 10 years in a non wrestling role
Matt Morgan really got in shape when he returned a couple of years later.
And he end up having a great tna career

Safe to say, the Performance Center is way more effective when it comes to creating new stars.
Really? Who have they "created" there that wasn‘t already established on the indy‘s?

Nonetheless, he is an actual product of the center.
@@Bale4Bond ik he would be good anyways but still credit is due to the pc due helping him get there. Unrelated but even tho she was already a star the pc really helped Jade cardgil improve in the ring as well

Crazy how many people applied that went onto be great wrestlers but didn't go far in the show and then the winners did nothing
I mean in retrospect it made sense just why that happened so many times, think about it. The contestants were treated horribly by coaches and even to each other, bordering on hazing and bullying and humiliated on national tv. Plus knowing what we know now that have come out about how manipulative producers of reality tv can be. It wouldn't be surprised if there were a few who were actually fans walked away from it with an experience that jaded them thinking that's what its constantly gonna be like on top of all the traveling, missing their families, injuries and physicals.
People who took the more traditional path probably can have a more positive outlook and camaraderie because they can have lasting and real connection with actual fans watching them. so they can go through the grind of it.
Maybe its hindsight, but the fact Kenny didn't win actually makes no sense, when out of the remaining four, he was the only one who could even work a serviceable match.
He was leagues better than the others
Vince wanted women, are you surprised? Kenny was beyond the best and is still doing his thing til this day
They didn't want 2 people of color winning the first 2 seasons. They had to mix it up.
He was robbed
Not to shit on the ladies, but it kinda feels like a creative decision rather than a talent relations one, like they didn't want to be predictable with having a male and female winner again and having no female winners would kinda look bad, so...
Tough Enough is also a prime example of Vince following what was popular at the time. MTV had made millions off reality show called Real World and Vince wanted his own version. Crazy thing is MTV Real World gave Vince the best wrestler during this era.
Mike Mizanin the lucky bastard who married Maryse??? Sorry I just forget who you're referring to.
Exactly! What original concept did Vince ever come up with on his own? Supercards? JCP already had Starrcade and World Class was doing Star Wars (that's a whole other issue) in the early 80s. The Survivor Series? Only because he wanted to fuck over Jim Crockett. The Royal Rumble? Pat Patterson and Dick Embersol had to convince McMahon to do the damn event. Saturday Night's Main Event? Another Embersol concept. Austin? We all know what Vince wanted to do with him originally. Taker? He didn't even want to hire him at first. DX? Rip off of the nwo. The Attitude Era? Rip off of ECW. Hell, Hulkamania was Verne Gagne's concept. All of Vince's original ideas by themselves sucked.
MTV The Real World was in its 11th season, the 10th season had the Miz, the show was actually on the wane after season 10.
@chrishollister80 You know who you stole the most from? Me, Vince. You stole my dreams, you stole my ideas, you stole my future. - Paul Haymen
Did you just call "The Miz" the best wrestler of the era? Your opinion now holds no weight and has been proven invalid.
Hawk looks like Kanes little brother when he shaved his head
Kenny King siting around in the hot tub while others are making out is somehow the funniest thing ever.
I think Kenny and Jake should have won. Hawk probably would have won if he hadn't quit, but they treated him so poorly that I don't exactly blame him for quitting.
Had Hawk won, they would have continued to dog him, especially Jim Ross on commentary
@roccojamison89gooker51 Simple solution to that. Put him on Smackdo- oh wait there was Tazz.
@@OctoberRust02 I see you were able to shoehorn a Home Simpson type of response between Smackdown and wait😁
If he would have done that same shit Puder pulled, than yeah lol
Having Stacie and Torrie show up is just dumb. Neither had to go through an ounce of what these contestants did to get into the business.
@@markula_4040 Facts they either did things behind closed doors or were enough eye candy to get a job

Tough Enough, at the least by the second season, wasn't about finding new wrestling stars through the process of winning the competition. The show itself was just another subpar reality show, using the veneer of "become a wrestler" as its hook. That's why the final cast includes people who never should have made the cut, why the "wrong" people get eliminated first, why events seem unfair or silly, and why the winners never amounted to anything while several losers and even rejected entrants did. The WWE *was* using the show to scout potential talent, but not through the show's version of competition.

I really liked hawk's personally he definitely stood out from the rest. but Kenny was by far the best worker overall he looked like he had beeen trained. He made his opponent look good. I think hawk could have gotten better with time. but kenny definitely should have won
Kevin Dunn my second favorite beaver behind dag
There's a contestant from a season that was in my high school gym class. Never knew until I watched Lucha Underground and saw him as the character Marty the Moth doing gross things.

I’m pretty sure most of that season went on to do LU

Fun Factoid (cuz the Hawk loves Factoids) Linda Miles wasn't supposed to be the manager for the Bashams. Another muscular female wrestler Nikita LeFleur was supposed to be called up with the Bashams with the dominatrix gimmick, but she got seriously injured shortly before the call up and was replaced by Shaniqua.
At some point there was Shaniqua and Shelton storyline where the two had to deny being the same person.
Basically, Bradshaw talked about how much Shelton Benjamin looked like Shaniqua. This all culminated in an episode were Charlie went to Shelton and "to prove" they looked nothing alike Charlie had Shelton put on a wig and lipstick. Then just as Shelton was applying the lipstick Bradshaw came up and took pictures to prove his side.
Kenny king does not age he kind of look the same in the face
Need more people like Al snow in the wrestling business
Had no idea Kenny King was in it

Dude was great. Love him
Kenny King....black don't crack
Jackie allegedly only won (and had a job for years afterwards) due to doing some favors for a few of the WWE higher ups….

Honestly I think Snow giving Hawk so much shit when he quit was pretty out if line. I get being hard on them when they're training to be wrestlers, but once they quit there's no real reason to carry on treating him that way.

Right off the bat I am excited to hear the Hawk shared my opinion of the time that Jake looked and seemed so much more like a star than everybody else that they should have just called it for him, and I am still mad about the Jackie thing
Honestly he probably would've been signed to a developmental deal to WWE had he not quit the show. I think that's what soured WWE on him.
Jake looks exactly like Chad from the Chad vs Virgin memes
The girl who quit Jessie is actually married to Tommaso Ciampa
Its a good thing TNA was alive during this time. Tough enough competition was just strange show.
It's always weird looking back at all the people who either didn't win or didn't make it past audition became the stars in WWE or elsewhere. I do often wonder where some of the ones who didn't make it went off to.
#JusticForHawk
Honesty if Matt Morgan would of not got injured he would of won.
I think the reason Kenny and Jake didn't win Tough Enough is because they got in trouble with the law for drinking on the show and WWE saw that which was enough for them not to pick them as winners. So they picked the two women as a safer option.
Kenny King looks the same because black don't Crack, Marky D.

King should have won. What a guy. Also, the action figures thing is very cute. I really like that a lot.
Dang, I though I watched S2 of Tough Enough but this kinda blew my mind. Crazy how Kenny King went on to do all that stuff, I wonder how different his career would be if he had won Tough Enough.
He probably does a few years in the WWE probably wins midcard belt which helps him become a main event guy in ROH/TNA/Indies.
It's funny that they denied John Morrison for being "too cocky" but when he eventually got into WWE he had a conceited rock star gimmick which came complete with a slow-mo windswept hair entrance. And anyway, since when is being too cocky a bad thing in pro wrestling? That describes 90% of heel characters.
Or the fact he was the 3rd Season's winner and have a good career.
Damn Hawk with that bold cut reminds me of Baron Dax who was one half of the tribunal from impact wrestling
Doesn't Danny look like a young Bryan Danielson?
You mean Daniel Bryan!
Weird that suddenly Kenny Kings match he was doing loads of dives... Think he was the stand out of this series
I hope he review the 2011 season even though it wasn’t the greatest thing in the world. I really enjoyed it at the time in 2011.! Mostly because my dream is to be a professional wrestler so I enjoyed watching people get to do that!
That was awesome, never seen someone recap it succinctly as you did. I keep drawing the parallels to Survivor so I think I would actually like watching it (only having seen the last season)
Its annoying how people who talk about tough enough basically only talk about the winners and maybe one or two things that happened in the season, rather than what actually happened and who was in it. It's refreshing and honestly brings me back to watching it. Sometimes it does make you wonder if someone else won how different it would've gone
Broooo!!! I knew I saw T Dog from TWD from somewhere before!! It was here!😊

You mean Vincent D'onofrio right, also know for playing Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in the MCU tv shows
He kinda looks like unmasked kane lol
He kinda looks bald Dolph ziggler to me
I appreciate the Hawk calling them out on the bullying instead of telling him to be a man and suck up his mental health struggles.
The Hawk marking out for the Hawk
They went to South Africa. Because, the WWE was doing a tour, at the time.
Jessie would end up working backstage as stage manager for a few years, and now is married to Ciampa.
They’re actually working in the ring every episode. But, because the show is mixed between the Real World and a reality competition. MTV viewers want to see more entertainment.
Hawk literally had one mma match, and called it quits. Now, travels back and forth between Florida and California. As an extras actor.
AT THE TIME….The WWE were trying to stray away from female bodybuilders. Cause, of the bad rep both Chyna and Nikki Bass were getting. But, yes. It’s not all about the muscle or athleticism in the ring. It’s about the charisma on the mic and how well you handle yourself backstage.
A buddy of mine worked with OVW, a couple years, and then thankfully. Got me a job working FCW/NXT. Years later.
All in all, outta the finalists. From what he told me. Most of them were offered jobs, contracts, and or other business opportunities within the company. But, turned it down. Cause, of the cash incentives from the original contest.
The hawk stands for the hawk
Al Snow doesn’t get the respect he should… even today he’s still underrated for all he’s done and doing
Commenting in every video till we get RKK Scott Steiner for ROH
Keep on doing this content. Excited for 04
Matt Morgan has had a crazy career. He got himself in great shape after this and was a beast in TNA, now he's a elected official in Florida who was just under investigation. Insane
Kenny King still has never been signed to WWE!
It’s been noted that he has a bad attitude. Like he’s better than anyone else. This could be why he wasn’t picked. It’s also why he hasn’t been signed by a big promotion too.

we were robbed, dude. those Kenny King vs. Paul London Velocity main events would've been heaters.
If you had a wrestler with the in ring skills of Kenny King and the personality of Hawk, you’d have the perfect WWE tough enough competitor. At the time I watched this on television, I was really disappointed that Hawk quit. I thought they were going to dawg him out in the beginning to redeem him with Al and Bob Holly by the end. And he was going to prove everyone wrong. Sadly, none of that happened.
Wasn't the thumbnail guy the one talking to himself 😂
Could you imagine punishing the trainees for getting drunk when 2/3 of the wrestling was drunk on whiskey and high on soma’s on a 24/7 basis lol
Two Women Winners Seriously? That’s stupid. Only one of these people go onto to be a successful I mean if you can call being in a TNA and ROH successful!
Can you do a video of Maven’s wwe run
I was cool with Linda winning the womans division. But Jackie winning as well was pure robbery. To be fair Jackie did come around and was a decent character after her botch match with Trish Stratus. I honestly thought Kenny was going to win.
They went a whole season...to get two managers. Miles and Gayda sucked in the ring and were immediately made managers.
Oh yeah I remember this nonsense. I remember a lot of things in wrestling I wish I could forget.
Tough Enough has always been useless but man that second season was such a shit show. Cut Morrison, pick 15 random people and fuck the only two guys that had potential over because you want to swerve people...
Crazy how out of everyone involved in the show, the least interesting character was Bob Holly.
I could have sworn watching this on tv back then that they advertised the "One man, One Woman" would win Tough Enough. I think there was even a Byte This or something similar where either Jake or Kenny had said thats what they were expecting, which was why the finale was shocking at the time.
Those first 2 seasons were so good
Just admit you were on Tough Enough Hawk.
Lets get Hawk to interview Hawk
Jackie for ROH season five
This show was really just an excuse for Holly to haze and bully people who weren't already signed.
You know what’s funny Kenny king was on this Nickelodeon show called “my brother and me
I remember The Hawk, and he was my favorite at the time, and to get an action figure at the time should have been a big deal......and I thought he would have made it on his size and look alone......that frontal triangle hair do was unique
There are well indie grown, and home grown TNA, NWA, UK, Japan etc talents that were in PC and NXT who never made it big WWE and recruiting a wrestler outta nowhere in just a couple of months? This chicanery? They've done worse.
It was just about TV clout at the time cause reality shows were absolutely killing it on TV.
The WWE NIL program could make some wrestlers cause they recruit real sports athletes who are interested in wrestling product.
PS. Performance Center is way better and successful in all pro wrestling.
I'm so glad I missed this whole era of WWE. I can only imagine how fucking obnoxious and annoying Bob Holly was as he tired to convince himself he was important and special. He's always come across like the guy in an office who isn't the manager, assistant manager, or anything of importance but he tried to act like a big shot just because he worked there longer than everybody else but always got passed over because of his stupid attitude.
What you don't know about Holly is that he is the *_ASSISTANT_* TO THE REGIONAL MANAGER
Exactly! He's a more aggressive yet far less funny or tolerable Dwight from The Office
One of Vince's friends who got off hurting people
I was FURIOUS over cutting Danny at the time. And I still am as I watch it back. The promo wasn’t great, But far from a dealbreaker compared to whoever else was there. Plus, that stuff is more coachable than what the weaknesses are from other people.
Really hope he landed in a better place because he got screwed in this one.
The coach’s were such bully’s in this show.
Tough Enough they passed on some good wrestlers over the years

Poor Shad got screwed in life, multiple times. R.I.P.
Wait wait wait. So a contestant, for a pro wrestling show called TOUGH ENOUGH had a doctors note to get out of different workouts and activities, but she was put in the show to be a pro wrestler? If you need a drs note so you don’t have to do any exercises or activities you have NO BUSINESS in a wrestling ring. Period. Why tf did they let that girl through? What the f is she gonna do if she wins? Give her opponent a drs note every week and forfeit?
It seems like they purposely choose the worst choice so they don’t outshine the current roster. The ones booted became stars
Never knew Kenny King was part of Tough Enough. I'm surprised he didn't win.
Jackie and Kenny should have won, so they got it half right
I am still mad about Jake not being chosen
